I said in DaBrain's thread that I would have new thrusters this evening. I'm not a liar! Heres screenies
I made the glows more blue instead of teal and i changed this one odd glow file which makes the glow viewed from the front more pronounced, which gives a cool profile effect. I made vasudan thrusters stronger (little bigger, lot brighter) and I made the AB things match

looks cool
just a shame how the glare effect seems to stick forward through and out of the model in some places. Cant the shape of the thrusters be manipulated to solve this?

Not bad :)
A good alternativ to the mediaVP ones.
But you need to get rid of the edges.
They are best visible in this picture.
If you cannot see them, you propably need a color profile (icc) for your CRT, or TFT.
Otherwise try the magic wand to get rid of it.
I assume you are using photoshop...

Jiggyhound, alas it's to do with the way that ships are rendered
The flare, I think, is rendered on an Alpha plane that always faces the 'camera'. Because of this, you can see the clip points where the plane meets the model as it orientates itself to you :(

We need volumetric flares :)
Should be quite easy to code...
Just replacing the thrusterglow with 50 particles...

I still think they look like the originals with messed up colour.
Except for the afterburner trail of course, which IMHO looks crappy as it's cut off and obviously flat, as can be seen in this picture:

Except for the afterburner trail of course, which IMHO looks crappy as it's cut off and obviously flat, as can be seen in this picture:
But you fail to notice the beautiful curve and graceful fade of the Vasudan trail in the foreground. It's all animated, and the cut off trails are barely noticeable. Try it ingame, set the trail life to 1

Umm...isn't the afterburner trail cut off because that herc there tapped its burners and then punched them again? Just a thought, as the picture IS taken in the heat of battle. They look nice...but I think I liked your first Homeworld like trails.

I really LIKE those trails. Active trails is one thing I'd like to see more of in FS.
Of couse, I want "painted" tails like the one's in Iwar2, but that's because what I really want is an Iwar2 SCP. ;)

The organge engineglows are much better. They are fading out into black really nice.

Got rid of more non-black areas (they were hiding, but i found them in the nebula missions), I think they are all gone, I'm going to start making my beamglows smaller now. And after that, more high-resification of textures!

Nothing personal against him; I like people that contribute stuff and donate their time for a better looking FS2.
It's simply the actual stuff that I dislike.

Oh, and as he used the bob-lsd-hybrids I made as a template I have to defend my baby from edgy trails and other humiliations :D

It'd be cooler if fighters were emitting trails all the time, and obviously they'd have to be the same colour in cruise and afterburner modes as well. This'd make them look much better IMO.

I prefer Lightspeed's thrusters. And the Homeworldian trail is, well, Homeworldian. Doesn't fit with FS and it doesn't look very good anyway, IMO.

IMHO, you can use the trails if you want, but only for mods. The FS universe just doesn't do it, like Ransom said ;)

FS1 did with some videocards( or was it the DVD edition? ), so that's technically not true

I like the idea of trails, but these ones just don't seem very fluid... maybe particle trails instead? kind of an excess fuel burnoff appearance that way :)

I like the burner trail the Serapis is showing. The rest of it I think could be done a lot better. :)

I wish more people used the particle trails, like Flipside made on his Myrmadon. With the blue fuzz. I really liked that so much better.

I'll have to see if I can dig out the stuff, I'd like to have another crack at those particle emitter things again anyway :)
