Some of you may know this already, but I heard it just now and this is unacceptable. FIDE, "Fédération Internationale des Échecs" also known as "World Chess Federation" has done what I thought many years ago was impossible. The next world championship is to be held in Libya! Unfortunatly my knowledge of english is insuficient to express not only my surprise that this decision was taken but also my anger. This link provides you with info about some of the conditions that the players will have to put up with.
Open Letter to Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, President of FIDE (http://www.infoxadrez.com/pt/noticias/cp001.html)
Like you see, players from countries like Israel or the US may not be granted entry in the country and will be forced to play in Malta. And what is surprising about this is that FIDE did nothing against it!! :mad2: Let's hope this ends well. :ick:

Hell the Israelis would probably do it to a Libyan player.

That is not the issue, if the next world championship was going to happen in Israel under these conditions I would have posted this anyway. The point is that a country (in this case Libya) is preventing this competition from taking place like it always has.

Well, the actual reason that US citizens wouldn't be able to participate on location is actually because of a US ban on travel by US citizens to Libya.
-
...still, one would think that FIDE would have it in some country that everyone could go to. Like...err.......
:doubt:
Whatever. Do people in Libya even play chess?
-
like Canada, or Austrailia, or Japan, or....
-
Sure. Those work. ;)

India. They invented the bloody thing :D

yeah! Bangalore would be a good place too. At the least it'll kill em off, unlike other places like Bombay or Delhi O_o :D
