That if any of us become rich and/or famous, we would use our power and influence to push Freespace.
This includes shameless plugs during interviews, in articles, and televised events. It also includes spending money on buying the rights from Interplay or whomever has them at the time, or, if they won't sell, buying them out.
Agreed?
-
Duh.
I've been planning on doing that for years.
Soon as I get the cash I'm buying the rights to FS3 and whoring it out like there's no tomorrow.
-
The only pact I will abide to is the one I signed with Satan... But seeing as I now 'outrank' Satan that pact has been declared null and void. :drevil:
The pact was about me not to get too evil. It'd make Satan look bad. In return I got The Axe of Doomâ„¢.
-
You got suckered.
I got a whole harem of women and retractable titanium wrist-swords.
-
Eh, an0n, you being Satan.. Ermm.. right... Satan looked a whole lot better then you.
Besides, titanium sucks :p
There is only one true Satan and he's cleaning my toilet as we speak.
-
Who said I was Satan?
I'm just a regular guy filled with more evil than some kind of cyborg Hitler running Windows 95.
-
please keep on topic.
-
hey, i would buy the rights, fund the SCP guys to work part/full time on getting it completely bug free and full of features, and start trying to publish it or something.
but then, i would have to get extremely rich.
extremely.
-
Bah. I would buy the rights, then turn it into Solitaire.
YOUR HERC2 LOSES TO SATHANAS, GAME OVER
-
Agreed :D Though in my circumstance this isn't necessary as I am already dedicated :p, only time will reveal that ... a lot of it :thepimp:

Well I'm not exactly Superman (Power) and neither does what I say (influence) compare to a Union Official, PM, or Media Exec. and just one question how do u intend to push Freespace literally?
-
Meh, we don't need power. Come the next "retail" release of the SCP, I'm chucking together an f-off huge plug for FreeSpace and sending it to all the major PC magasine publishers, as well as the major game-covering software news websites. But I won't be doing that untill the bug-crushing process is over.

I can get some top notch eye-candy shots if you need them for that, BTW. ;)

I was planning to do something similar, only on a bit smaller scale :)
The problem is, if someone gets interested how can he get the game?
-
well, yeah, crap.
the interplay store, but that is only for US citizens.
we could email Interplay if we are allowed to buy the game, and ship it to non us citizens for the price of the game plus P&P.
but that'd require quite a bit of work.
-
Hmm... there is HOTU but I'm not sure if magasines could publicly recommend it.
That said, isn't Interplay belly up now anyway? I'm guessing the rights revert to Volition when that happens - and they could in turn announce the software to be shareware. I'm just stabbing in the dark at this, but it'd be great to pimp the game some.
aldo_14, thanks very much - and I will take you up on that! But not now, I'd rather all shots of the new code were based on the latest bug free code - so that what we show is what people can indeed get.... showing the engine at its absolute best. I don't even want to start work on this untill the new build is out - the more concrete everything is, the better.
-
correction, There was HOTU.
and no, the rights would be auctioned.
-
Auctioned...;7
-
Agreed, Carl. And Kal, I'm right behind you on that one. We can push a lot of stuff through those channels alright. :)

someone pointed it out in the thread on Interplay getting kicked out of their office.
that same guy also mentioned 10 to 50 grand as a minimum pricetag.
:doubt:
-
Well, lets see...
We have 1700 members... (although only about 500 have actually posted)
and if each gives US$5, once every, say month...

:wtf:
-
they sold the rights..........
is that confirmed or unconfirmed? o_O
*just gets the heeby-jeebies that some crap company may have gotten the rights to FS3.....
Hope its an Asian company....if it is, I may be able to help some.....

A fair enough idea Kal but 3.6 won't look any different from the builds available now because all they are doing is fixing bugs. So as long as you don't include any pics showing one of those bugs, what you see now is what they'll get :D
-
Well, I appreciate that Karajorama but I'd really like to be able to say "all shots are taken with the latest source build" where both developers and users can know where they stand. As opposed to "I saw the shots and downloaded it now but there's bugs ra ra ra".
-
If someone makes FS3 they better be darned careful as to what they do.
The game will need total MOD support, expansive story line, balls to the walls action and graphics, and they shouldn't be thinking about taking out Joystick support or I will personally hurt them :)
Outside of that, its a very powerful and viable franchise if someone is experienced and gets it right.
Yeah Interplay has defaulted or something on their payments for their offices. Downright embarrasing and I can tell you where it all went wrong :D

Nope.
If I become rich and/or famous, I'm going to by Argonaut Shefield, its entire crew, some good story writers and make Iwar3. After that, I buy Digital Anvil and the Freelancer license and remake it on a decent engine, slap a '2' on the tail end of it and we'll hire some real voice talent this time. Oh, and before I do either of those, I've got some pet game projects of my own that I'd rather put to press first.
Freespace is nice and all, but we have to have priorities.
-
Yes, and you don't have to live, either.
And how bout' a murder-suicide pact, should Freespace fall into the wrong hands.
-
Sure. Swear, for us KT.

So, what you're saying is, that you'd rather make a good sequel to a crappy game, than a good sequel to a great game?
-
He's a traitor... let's
get ignore him... ;)
-
Well, I'm gonna buy out Berman and Braga (if I get REALLY rich ala Bill Gates that is :p) and write my own Star Trek series :D Maybe I can show them a thing or two how ST is supposed to be.
Like TOS or DS9
But if i'm Bill Gates-like rich I'm gonna buy out a whole lotta crap :p
Anywayz... Thats just a dream...
-
Bah... I'd have the Commander Keen series made anew.... and... err... probably buy Mitsubishi...:nervous:
-
The Pact is sealed!
heh, yea sounds good.
-
*signs the pact*
-
Bof, Freespace was great as a game, but as a license... That's not an unforgetable universe to me, honestly.
-
I think I'd rather have a new cannon fodder game., hactually.
And i agree with Venom / Nico. Much as I like FS2, I can't say I'd miss the universe if it went overnight.
-
when we start sending FSO to all these game sites and magazines, why don't we send a copy to [V] as well? just to show them what we've done with it, ya know?
-

**** that.. I'm buying a couple Ferrari's if I get rich.. maybe a small country..... oh and the NHL...
-
*Snipes Venom and aldo*
-
I would. And I'de give them as much money as they needed and as much creative control as they wanted, so FS3 could have the best graphics, long singleplayer, innovative mulitplayer and all that good stuff. Also, I'de pay them to develop new SP campaign every 6 months or so.

Actually, no. As much as I hate to say it--and believe me, I really do hate to say it--Freelancer turned out to be a better story and--God, this hurts--better GAME than Freespace.
The thing is, I never thought Freespace had that great a story. It was a fun game, don't get me wrong, but it was horribly, endlessly cliched. Freelancer, for all that it was horribly racially stereotyped (and had some cliche elements) did manage to be, over all, more for and actually had more than just two characters (Freespace had Snipes and Bosch and no one else at all memorable).
My only beef with Freelancer is its game play engine, honestly. By the end of the game, I was pretty much hooked on the story and pretty damned ready for more. That's a good story: it made me forget I hated playing the game long enought to enjoy it. Freespace, on the other hand, had an okay engine and a lame story that was grossly mishandled (we finished the story with the destruction of the colossus... and we've still got half a game left! what will we do?!).
Let's put it this way: the 'Lancer Universe, the Wing Commander Universe and the Iwar universe all have a lasting presence in my head. On the other hand, if it weren't for Steak and Venom and Aldo and Narol and a few other people, I'd have forgotten I'd ever played Freespace.
So yeah. I'd like a great sequel to an okay game instead of a great sequel to a game that was not, in my opinion, as good.
-
Damn you Mik.. I have to go play Iwar2 again
-
*signs pact*
Freespace is too good not to be available to the public!
Bah... I'd have the Commander Keen series made anew.... and... err... probably buy Mitsubishi...
Yeah Keen! That game was one of the best side-scrollers EVER!
