I am not a big fan of massive multiplayer games with a monthly surcharge, but Star Wars Galaxies just upped the anty. I am not about to sign up with them just to get into a Star Wars spacecraft that utilizes current generation graphics. You have to admit thoug, it sure looks sweet.
I have faith in you folks under the perfectionist management of Karma to get fans back into an X-wing which has collected dust since the X-wing Alliance and Rogue Squadron series. If not equal, surpass this latest Lucas commercial bait.
I'm still waiting for school to end before I start going multi-project with this Freespace community. I'm still interested in working on Homeone, unless someone has taken up the task already.

:eek2: Well...those screenies sure look pretty sweet...oh man...
Although, we may not exactly beat it in terms of next-gen graphics (yet), we will most likely surpass any of it because there are major differences between that project and ours.
1) We can continue to update the graphics as we see fit
2) Our capabilities seem endless, where their final product will sit there and collect dust, ours will continue to evolve to our liking and we can do whatever we want with it per the FS modding capabilities newly opened to us all the time
3) Their final product will be stuck on one story, ours will have as many stories as we care to come up with
4) Ours will be immersed a lot deeper into their universe, ironically more than their own game, as we can mold it to any Star Wars we want while theirs is stuck into one timeframe
I dunno, I see a lot of promise with our project. :D I just hope the rest of the team sees it the way I do. Karma's doing a hell of a job

But... Thats a game MADE by Lucasarts... (well, technically an expansion made by Lucasarts, for a game made by Lucasarts)... THat puts them in their own league, and since they aren't really conversioning, we're still better :p ...
-
actually those models are very high poly compared to actual games, and looks really very good (althought not completely correct, for example the ties should have only two small side thrusters instead of a big one in the middle).
But if it is the famous space expansion for galaxies, well it isn't going to be a pure spacesim for obvious reasons, and you'll be able to play it only inside SWG.
anyway, we'll see when it'll be released. Even the basic SWG looked different in the pre-release screenshots

I don't completely agree with their addition of engine glows on Ties. If IIRC, Ties use ion propulsion, which shouldn't have any visuals at all.
Are you folks planning to utilize engine glows for the Ties? I hope not. Its not exactly canon despite the pretty eye candy.
I was once experimenting with a faked motion blur when afterburners are activated. I used a rendered image of the fighter's backand side views, multiplied 10 times. It turned out wierd. Perhaps you folks can pull it off.
-
yes, well , I said thruster just to make clear what I was meaning, I think topace made two small thrusters (you can see em in the screenshots) but I don't like em, I think that a simple glowmap should do its job better
-
I can remove them, if you want me to. I only added thrusters just to make the visual better. By the way, as far as I can remember you yourself said SW ships have several small 'glows' instead of some big ones.

FSO can do anything that engine can do... other than the cockpits, (and maybe some sort of volumetric I'm not sure on some of the shots)
-
Cockpit is not on the top of our wishlist.

...and some monstrousily cool particles effects for laser hits:p

Is there anyway, the warp out script could be changed? It would be cool if the warp out can be replaced with a hyperspace jump. The subspace tunnel textures could also be changed to look like the movies.
Have you folks checked out the latest movie of the game in action.

the subspace tunnel shouldn't be that hard, and we may make some cutscenes with the ingame engine to be used between missions (and create the illusion of multiple areas in the same mission, when infact there will be a single mission for each area)
The hyperspace jump would be a little more hard, I dare, basically it could be a simple acceleration to infinite, with the ship disappearing after a while, but I think that we'll need some code changes
