Would you pay 10 bucks a month and invest a considerable amount of your time to get into a massive multiplayer rpg for this?
I am tempted, but I am at a financial loss.
On a side note (BEWARE possible Episode 3 SPOILER)
Word has it that the opening sequence for Episode 3 is supposedly the most complex space battle orchestrated over a 20 minute timeframe!!!

Um...wrong forum.
-
WOW there is about 3 Threads about this in HLP one hard light one in SWTC forum an one in here
-
Mass distribution, wonderful isn't it... :nervous:

the money I could cough up. it's the time I lack.
-
I wonder if SW will ever bring out a GOOD Game.
So far gaming wise the franchise to me has been a complete let down...
-
*cough* KotoR, Jedi Knight 2, Jedi Academy *cough, cough*
-
KOTOR ownz all of you by a whole bunch. I made a 5 page review over that monster game, and from what I know it won game of the year from PC Gamer, Xplay, and anything after that I'm not sure, but it is damn well a great game!

Yay...the new Episodes have sorely lacked a battle on the scope of Endor...its about time we got one.
I don't like these $10 a month things....so as cool as it looks, no thanks.
-
The reason KOTOR rocked(based on second-hand reports, I have yet to get it, it still costs $60 here and that's at Wal-Mart) was because Lucas kept his asstastic hands offen it!
-
The last great Star Wars game was TIE Fighter, perhaps XvT at a push.
-
Tie Fighter!!! Oh the memories.....
::admiral lifts in the air gasping::
Vader- "...now you shall pay for your treachory" ::closes fist::
::CRUNCH::

Oh god yes.
And XWA was the ****.
-
no, XWA sucked. it had that stupid robot, i did kind of like how they gave you a family and had them involved but Tie Fighter owns XWA soooo much. In Tie Fighter the whole story is different, you don't blow up the Death Star again. instead, you kill rebel scum for the glory of the empire. what more could you want?

Killing rebel scum for the glory of the Empire in a TIE Defender...wait, we could do that too :D
Only thing better than the defender was Sienars Missile Boat. Oooh yeah :D
-
I wonder if the makers originally intended you to fly T/Ds in the last few missions around the asteroid base, since I'm sure some of the voice messages said 'TIE Defender Alpha 1'.
XWA's missions sucked monkey-nuts, although the engine was pretty cool.
-
Jesus christ the last missions in TIE Fighter were pain-in-the-ass. Flyin the Avenger against the neverending waves of ****ing Muurian Transports carrying Heavy Rockets. Jeesus. Add to the vast number of TIE Defenders trying to bust your ass and minimal friendly support - I failed them 99% I went for it without the codes. And the supply ships were also terrible, like the CUV and TUG.
And MIS. Oh yeah. With 80 Adv. Concussion Missiles you couldn't go wrong. In the mission where you had to inspect the Rebel warships I used all of my missiles and scored a terrible amount of kills against stupid A-Wings:
A-Wing: "Durr, it's a fast, powerful, manouverable Imperial ship loaded with missiles and carrying an improved tractor beam. Let's shoot it with lasers!"
MIS: "lolololol fagots"
Ahh, the memories.

If you interested in space combat at close to the same price if you buyt 6 months in advance, check out EVE Online (http://www.eve-online.com/)
I know its not dogfighting HOTAS ultra adrenaline rush combat, but believe me, when your battleship you spent weeks saving for is being torn to pieces in front of your very eyes, you can feel the adrenaline rush ;7
EVE is more of a way of life than a game as everybody plays in the same persistent world instead of 30 servers to choose from. RIght now they have clsoe to 10k people on the same server at the same time. Check out their FAQ (http://www.eve-online.com/faq/faq_01.asp) if you want to know more.

EVE is a good game, but hell its not newbee friendly at all. I watched a friend start an account and mine for like HOURS just to get cash and some decent equipment. It's quite tedious but I guess all games in this group have the same characteristics. The economic and social aspects (Have to join groups/corporations to be more effective) are very deep though.

Sadly that's what killed it for me. I'd join if they had good andrenaline rush Freespace dog fighting like play. Sadly its just press a key and watch your ship duke out. Can't blame them though, I would guess that thousands of ships dog fighting would bog down the servers quite a bit.
-
I'm not a big fan of "Pay now, then pay to play for a bloody long time" type games.
i mean, come ON. you pay what?.. 50-60 bucks USD for the blasted things, then pay through the nose so you can continue playing it?..
i'd rather not waste the bandwidth, personally.
-
well Eve is really an exception. You pay $20 to activate the account, which comes with a full month. So you're really only paying $7 for the game. So you can get about 3 months off the game for the price of a normal game these days.
And if you really think about it, who here plays a standard game more than 3 months on a regular basis?
-
MMORPGs tend to go by the "We will keep your attention longer than most other games and save you cash because you don't need to buy those other games, you will be too busy playing ours."
...
Works too.
For anyone trying to sell eve;
Don't, for the LOVE OF GOD try to Post any PVP videos of it.
You will INSTANTLY KILL ALL INTEREST.

What else do you think is good in it?
fighting the experimental ties? Doing Family missions? Looking at the pretty backgrounds? (some are pretty cool looking too) or looking at the fighter models with the moving heads?
...aw hell...XWA has alot of cool features in it...
(Edit: When did I pass 700 posts?!...oh well...W00t! 701 posts! :/edit)

Mining is a waste of time. Finish your training missions then run agent missions.. much MUCH more profitable and you dont get bored doing them.

Its more than just press a key.. there is alot of strategy when it comes to fitting your ship up and it doesnt take the biggest guns to win a battle. There is alot of skill involved in combat especially with the high manuverable frigates and stuff like that.
They just doubled the server load this weekend, so more than 10k people on the servers wont bog it down. Plus the 5k solar systems are on different clusters and high traffic areas near the highway gates have much more load capacity. Ive been in 100 person fleet battles with drones and ive had minimal lag.

What is the thing with the huge engines?

One of numerous versions of the Z-95 Headhunter, a predecessor to the T-65 X-Wing.

Nice Thorax... i had a few of those a long time ago. Can be deadly if fit correctly.
-
Screenies are always good for EvE ;)
It shows about as much action as a PVP Video...
Since they're beautiful.
-
Sure, they're beautiful, but the game is mind-numbing boring :D
-
Pity really, if someone made an action space sim that looked as pretty as Eve? Well... I'd play it.

Ah, don't misunderstand. I'm sure there are tons of strategic elements in the eve combat engine, but basically falls down to your ships stats vs the other guy's ships stats then a roll of a die kind of thing. No andrenaline rush for me.
What I really ment was I did not like it because EVE is not a space action sim. It would be nice it you could control your ship, point your guns and do your manuvers like in Freespace.
