I dunno where I'm supposed to post this, so I couldn't check if it had been reported already, but with taylor's latest build, the Fred2 texture replacement thing doesn't work :(
Also, even submodels don't show anymore through transparent maps, only backgrounds do.
-
Do those things work with Bobboau's or Kazan's builds? Does this happen with both D3D and OGL? I'm not really familiar with the texture replacement stuff so someone else may want to comment but I'll look at the code and see if anything stands out.
-
well i've tried it i was cheating and adding sqd logos directly to the hull and then just replacing the textures in fred but for some reason some work and others just ctd me, which is confusing see that i diod them all at the same time and the same way? but it with the 20040504 build
-
Can you send me something to test with?
-
sry those textures are classified :D
-
Roy, Taylor won't make them generally available, I can assure you of that, but if the coders are going to fix the problem, they need something to work with ;)
-
don't worry just messing so what exactly do you need??
-
I'd need anything/everything that your using to get the problem, both what works and what doesn't. Also I'll need to know the steps it takes to see the problem. That's all ;)
-
well, that's easy, in fred, you right click on a ship, you edit the ship you've chosen, there's a replace texture button, you pick the main map of the ship ( this way it'll be obvious ) and type the name of another map in the box near. it's supposed to replace a skin with another, but when you play in FS2, the map is still the original one.
-
I think this was made for capships, see if it still works with a cruser or something, if it's only fighters in your wing I think I know were the problem is.

then don't keep us in saspence

yes, fighters, obviously. Why would one have that just for capships anyway? :wtf:
Don't tell me this was made JUST to change those nameplates? :p
But what buggers me most, for now, is the transparent map...
With a pure green map, no prob, the cockpit shows ( as seen in my eze ingame shots ), but once I replace it with, say a dds and a grey alpha chanel, there's nothing of the ship that will show. Can see stars, suns, other ships through it, but that's it.
There's also no way to have specular maps above a transparent area, too, btw :(

...
I got around that by using pure green for the cocpit, but used white on the shinemap for the glass effect. Unfortunately, it only shined over the cocpit, and the other faces I used to attach the cocpit to the mesh were see-through, and spec-less. :doubt:
-
it was origonaly build to replace nameplates, it was also suposed to work for custome textures on fighters and stuff, there is some stuff that happens to ships in the player modifyable wings that can cause problems (like the bug were thruster glows didn't show up for the longest time). to date you may be the first person to actualy test this code on a player flyable fighter.
don't supose you'd be willing to give me the ship in question.
-
the ezechial... doubt it. :p

when you figure any of this out, i would appreciate it if someone could add it here.

just tested this, tried replacing the textures on Alpha 1. Straight CTD when trying to load mission, no errors or questions asked.
For your information and necessary action please.

I'm planning to use the replacement thing to have different squad colours in the SW rebel fighters btw.
Nothing usable for test atm.
Also I was wondering about using it for caps too (creating unique ships, with custom scratches, dirty etc)

? I can't get shinemaps to show over green maps either :doubt:
Bob: I'll send you a rar with the eze monday if I have time, I trust you not to share it with anybody, of course.
Btw, unlike UT and Singh, FSO doesn't crash, it just doesn't display the new skin, it keeps the original one.
