I just downloaded the new version of FSO (4-05-2004) onto my new computer and when I start it up, the graphics are all blurry and my joystick won't work. In normal FS2, the joystick works just fine. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
I just read one of the other threads about joystick problems...which tags do I need enabled for it to work, if any?
-
Which joystick? I've an MS Force Feedback Pro and got no problems.
-
What joystick settings are you using in the launcher?
-
well, I have the same problem (as I described in Bugzilla already). I am using Top Gun Afterburner 2
-
OK, I'll try and get some time to sort this out again.
-
In the meantime try using force 0 or force 1 in the joystick settings
-
It's a Logitech Force 3D joystick. I tried using it on the normal setting and on Force 0 as well. There was no Force 1 option. When I enable force feedback, the feedback works but I can't fly the ship with it. Without force feedback, nothing happens.

But either way the joystick dont work for moving the shp around?
-
Do any of you use any instant messaging services and would be willing to run through some builds with me for an hour or so at a time thats good for us both?
-
IRC might be a good place to meet for that.

No.
And as for time to experiment with builds...I don't think so. I've got loads of schoolwork until the end of the term, and I probably won't be playing much, although my brother may...no time for experimenting though. :(

This was EXACTLY the [roblem I had with an earlier build. Basically, running the game in stock mode was fine, full joystick function.
Then, after installing 3.55 ( I think ) and the then current version of launcher, no joystick anymore.
I ran through a similar process with Random Tiger sending me an assortment of launcher variations, and me feeding back error messages etc. to try and get some kind of data as to what the root cause was.
Then....I had to do a complete re-install of Windows XP after a failed attempt at setting up a dual boot system ( never going to do that again!!! )
BUT here's the odd bit... I re-installed FS2 and ran a single stock mission to test the stick was working. Then I downloaded and installed the latest stable build ( as listed in the latest version of everything thread ) and launcher, and the stick worked!!!
I had installed XP, and was using the drivers that were loaded by XP for the stick ( a Saitek Cyborg 3D rumble force ). This was, as far as I thought, the same setup as I had before re-install. Only now it worked as it should.
Perhaps a complete clean re-install of FS2 helped....I really have no idea!!!

i have the same joystick (WM Force 3D) and i have no problems
Shadow: the full reinstall of windows is what helped

Had overtime to do last weekend, will try and find time next weekend.
Three things to try:
1. Use force 0
1. Use force 1 (requires newest launcher)
3. use old launcher to setup joystick
-
Newest launcher as in v4.x? Like, the one in your sig?
-
Yep. Like the one in his signature.
-
OK, heres a new Launcher for those with problems.
http://www.randomtiger.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/freespace/Launcher5b.rar
It might offer you:
'Win32 Joystick 1'
or
'Win32 Joystick 2'
Tell me how you get on
-
Oh.. and thats Launcher v5 so you will need to use a recent fs2_open exe. I'll upload one to my sig ASAP just in case.
-
new launcher solved the problem. Great work, Tiger ;)
