Title: Jr. Fredder with a problem...
Post by: Axem on April 24, 2004, 08:32:28 pm
Ahoy hoy, first post here. Anyways I've started to make my first real mission (aka not a beam fest), and I've hit a small snag. The mission calls for the player to scan a Ravana, problem, player can't select main body. Okay, fine, so I set all the sub-systems to have the same cargo and a sexp to become true when one of the subsystems are scanned. But I still can't scan anything. So what's going on? I remember scanning a Sathanas in the campaign...

Any help appreciated. :)

In the 'Ship Editor', there is a button labelled 'Misc'.  In the panel that pops up, there is a checkbox for a setting named 'Scannable'.  Perhaps that is what you are looking for?

And...

Acquire Target : Axem. Commence Plasma Core Insertion. Beam-Free-All. FIRE!

:welcome:

Welcome to HLP. There are exits to the left and rear. Do not attempt to use them. Under your seat you will find empty beer cans, cookie crumbs, dog eared dungeon Porn mags left by Shrike... oh, and a Flamethrower. Unfortunately, we're out of napalm, so you'll have to bludgeon people to death with them.

In the event of serious conflict, there are plasma rifles in the forward locker, though these can only be opened by an Admin, [V], God, or Hyperintelligent shade of the colour Blue. If, for whatever reason, you find yourself crawling around in the ductwork, there's a better than average chance you'll encounter a Shivan. They're easy to spot with the five legs and all. If you're lucky, it's just Carl, who responds well to food rewards. If not, then at least you die quickly. Be aware that the entrance to the main control room is guarded by subspatial claymore mines.

Yep, messing with thescannable checkbox'll sort you out. Kudos for learning to FRED as well - there's few enough
FREDders about as it is. Remember to post your mission when you've finished it.

I don't think you can make the main body of a capital ship contain cargo though, it seems like the port had some trouble with this.

I think you mean ALT-S, right? ;) But yeah, you can disable subsystem targetting but it still won't let you scan.

Thanks for the welcome guys, :) I've been following the SCP for awhile now, and I'm just amazed how good this game looks now.

I've had some experience with mission design before (XvT, XWA), so FREDding comes pretty easy so far. If all goes well, the mission will be done some time today or tomorrow. It'll be a small teaser for a 4-5 mission mini-campaign I'm putting together.

Nearly done, but a few snags that I'm not quite sure how to fix. Seraphim Bombers come out and their inital orders are to attack an Aeolus and a Sobek but with a lower priority to the Sobek. But the bombers go after the Sobek first and then they go after fighters, completely ignoring the Aeolus. The protected box isn't checked in the misc panel, and the bombers went after it before.

What's going on?

Perhaps they're scared :D

What are the relative priorities for the two ships and how far away is the aeolus from the other ships?

The Aeolus has a priority of 80, and the Sobek has 50. And the Seraphim arrival is 3000 m from the Aeolus. The two ships start off around 6 - 7km, then the waypoints bring them near each other.

Hmmm. That is strange.  If the bombers were further out that might possibly be it. Can't think of any explaination for that off the top of my head although 50 and 80 are still somewhat close together. try 80 and 20.

If that doesn't work, try removing the intial orders for the bombers and then send them against the aeolus with an event instead. Then tell them to go after the Sobek only when the Aeolus is dead.

I used an event to tell them to go after the Aeolus, and with that, it's done! :D Thanks everybody for helping out. :)

Now to start working on the other 4...

Hope it works and feedback appreciated.

You shouldn't put value 80 in initorders, its better to use 79. I think FRED counts 80 as lowest possible value even if its highest, I had problems with this also long ago, but fixed it with 79 :)
Anyway just in case of future ;)
