Features:
Through conversations, you not only shape you past, but also what happened in the original KotOR
- You star(t) as an exiled Jedi from the Mandalorian Wars
- You do not get a lightsabre until later in the game
- You somehow get control of the Ebon Hawk
- The only character to return to your cast is T3-M4
- While HK-47 will not return, you will get someone just like him
- Instead of one main opponent, you oppose Sith Lords
- The number of customizable gear will increase ten-fold
- 2 members of the new cast is a older Jedi (female) and a ("pretty boy", imo) soldier
- All of the characters have side-quests, like in the first
- Revan's in an unkown part of the galaxy, and will return at some point in the game
- As you upgrade your feats, the feat animation gets more complex
- On top of the Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular classes, you advance to one of the following classes:
Jedi Master (like Yoda)
Jedi Watchman (like Obi-Wan)
Jedi Weapon Master (like Mace Windu)
Sith Lord (Emperor Palpatine)
Sith Marauder (like Darth Maul)
Sith Assasing (?)
- New force powers
- TURRET FIGHTS ARE OPTIONAL NOW!

I hope it's longer and more interesting than the previous game. I also want to see more outcomes rather than just a light/dark ending.
BTW can someone please tell me where the heck HalfLife 2 is?!? :wtf:

-
Under development :D
-
*drools heavily*
Now this is something I will be looking forward too :D
-
Whoa, those graphics are FUGLY. At least, they are compared to other recent games.

My thought exactly.

Whoever made the decision, that no main character of KOTOR1 won't return should be shot. I mean, what's the point in actually developing more-interesting-than-usual characters, if they ain't even going to return in the sequel. It would be like making Empire Strikes Back without Luke, Han and Leia.
Especially, if the new characters are, apparently clones of the old ones ('pretty boy soldier' someone 'just like HK-74', etc)

And?
By the way:
It is too odd that every Jedi on that picture has DUAL lightsabers. Has it already become a mania?
-
looks like an alpha, a very basic alpha, using the same engine..
shame the screenies don't do the engine any justice.. we'll just have to wait until the actual screenshots are released.
-
Personally I'm thinking Jade Empire is going to be better than this.

yep. Also, that character in the last picture (beside the robot) looks like a butch lesbian :D:D
-
A lesbian? That girl?
-
It's probably so fugly because that's the X-BOX version:p
The first KOTOR kicked ass, so I'm probably going to be buying this when it gets released.
That article says the release date is February of 2005, by the way.
-
You know that 'official release dates' mean nothing.
If they say, it will be out in February, 2005, then it won't be out by the summer of 2005.
-
I look forward to this with great anticipation. :)
KotOR was the finest Star Wars game and indeed, PC RPG, I've ever played, without exception.
Yes, dual-wielding is a mania, TopAce. Considering its been a mania for munchkins in every RPG system that involved swords since 1974, its only to be expected that Star Wars fanboys would like it too.
-
It kills the feeling that all Jedi use lightsabers on all of their limbs.
-
Is it moddable? No? I'll pass.
No matter how engrossing a storyline is, there are only a finite number of ways of getting from start to finish and trying something different. Unless there's some way of adding your own content (a.k.a. the Aurora Toolset for us NWN afficionados), the game gets played once or twice, then sits in a desk for a few years. Official stuff is nice (sometimes), but I've seen end-user mods that are easily superior to the materials the game devs themselves created. The mod-unfriendliness of the original KOTOR is one reason why I will not buy it until it's a bargain-bin grab.
-
Models look like they're the ones from the original KOTOR. The Sith soldiers look the same, as does the head in the upper right of the first pic. Probably temp models.

I'll assume you mean "it kills the feeling WHEN all jedi use lightsabers on all their limbs".
Perhaps, for you, it does. However, you're in the minority. You can, of course, choose to play with--gasp--a single lightsaber.
-
I have always prefered single lightsaber. Even in Jedi Academy.
There are two thing I do not take care:
1. I am in minority. I got used to it. ;)
2. Your opinion.
-
See, you've already solved your problem, TopAce. I wasn't giving you my opinion. I was stating fact:
1. You're in the minority, as you agreed
2. You don't have to use dual sabers.
I really don't care if my opinion matters to you. You are, as I have pointed out before quite free to ignore me. Your profile setup has the option to hide every word I say. I invite you to do so.

I like having lightsabers in both hands cos I think it's cool
anyway I think KOTOR2 will be Uber cool but that just my opion
and cos KOTOR is one of best RPG's I ever Played
-
What magazine was this preview of KOTOR 2 in? I HAVE to see the article for myself! :D
-
Looks like Electronic Gaming Monthly.
-
IMHO, I was kind of hoping for a better storyline... I mean, not that I liked where the first KOTOR was, but the way HIG put it, it seems like it's just right before KOTOR, but with the same themes of characters and such, which would kind of suck. That and if Revan came back, Revan would either have to be dark or light, which kind of messes with KOTOR's ending a bit.
Now if they flat out did something during the Mandolorian Wars or sommat and dropped the Revan part, that would be neat, although I'd rather see progression in the story rather than a prequel.
-
It's after, according to the articles he posted. Says that Revan left a year or so after the last game. Odds are, he/she's going to be light side, as there are still Jedi around :p
Male or female, though, is a good question.
-
Female
-
GreyWolf: Actually, the entire story of the game is that your character is the last jedi alive. At least, that's what they say in the article.
TopAce: I pointed out that the article said February 2005 because HIG said the rumored release date was the end of this year.

That doesn't jibe with anything I know about the Jedi order in the Old Republic era. Something as monumental as the near extinction of the Jedi only happened when Emperor palpatine took over between Episode III and Episode IV, when Luke Skywalker became the last Jedi and had to rebuild the Jedi from the ground up by himself. Nothing in any sort of Star Wars canon anywhere has even hinted that the Jedi were so nearly wiped out before.
The nice thing about KOTOR I was that its history meshed so well with the previously mentioned canon history of the Old Republic from the comics and books, like the Exar Kun war, the Great Hunt and so on. If KOTOR II were to say that the Jedi Order had to be rebuilt from the ground up after nearly becoming extinct in the exact manner as in Luke Skywalker's time, KOTOR II is going to seriously suck ass.

What it sounds like is that both the Jedi and the Sith have a lot of issues going on from trying to pick up the pieces of what Revan did. (whether good or bad) The return of the exiles (namely you) seems to be what will tip the balance.
Probably most Jedi are in hiding now, especially with the Sith reforming arround a few lords.
Quite honestly though, I don't care if it violates Star Wars canon as long as it's a good, entertaining game. Since it's being done by a lot of the people who made Planescape: Torment, if it can have some of that twist and the same depth of characters it'll be great.

I am not adding anybody to my ignore list unless he drives me up the wall too much.
-
I shall endevour to try harder to be worthy of your abject scorn.
-
WE shall see how it will end up..
Oh ...and for those who like playing KOTOR with one lightsaber (I like both with one and with two).. these is a great-saber mod out there...yes...a GREAT, BIG TWO-HANDED lightsaber that will make people think twice before they choose Two-weapon fighting...
-
I'm going dual saber again this time. There are too many advantages not to do it. The game is HORRIBLY slanted toward dual wielding. Even if you get the Duelist feats (big bonuses for single wielding), you still get fewer attacks, a lower defense and less damage than dual wielding. A shame really.
Besides. Gotta get the Heart of the Guardian and the Mantle of the Force on the same character at the same time. ;) With a good combination of other focus crystals, you go from being a force user to a force abuser real quick. ;)
-
Anyone notice that in the latest patch, the game doesn't really care what alignment you are for the purpose of the Solari crystal? Rather fun smashing down Dark Jedi, as a Dark Jedi, using Light Side equipment.

True...Dual-wielding was a better option. That's why I download the great lightsaber thingy anyhow...
It does far more damage than a normal lightsaber, but takes up both hand slots...

Oh REALLY?
That's going to stand me in good stead, since I'm going all out as a total Dark Side Combat *****. ;) Not even off Dantooine yet, and she's already lvl12, 3/4s of the way to full Darkness and nearly unstoppable in combat. :D

So aren't the sabers balanced?
