Title: Just one of those days...
Post by: Dark_4ce on April 28, 2004, 12:11:44 pm
Well, let me tell you all what a f***ed up day I've had today. Lets begin at the insurance company. See, I have broad home insurance. That covers everything from your stuff to yourself. The book gives lovely examples of Rick triping over his child's toy, and spilling wine that can't be taken off by cleaning, therefore requiring a new rug, as an example of how broad their insurance is. Ok, so my camera broke down so I took it to be repaired. I take the bill to my insurance company, and what do they say?

"Sorry sir, but unless you have dropped it, we can't cover it."

I said, "But Rick got a new rug, why cant you cover the costs of fixing my camera?!"

She said, "Well, you can fill out a claim, and we can look over it, but I doubt we can cover it, since it didnt happen suddenly."

Then I went ape****.

"What the hell do you mean? My ferret dropped it off the table, dragged it under the bed, and the picture got bad! So I had to fix it! Isnt that sudden enough?"

"I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to remember the specific TIME and DATE of the occurence. However it wasnt dropped."

"You telling me, that my ferret pulling it off the table doesent count as it being dropped?"

"No sir."

"What the hell do you think he did? TELEPORT IT under the bed?!"

"Theres, no need for that sir, just fill out the claim."

So I did. Then I started to really laugh when I saw the claim form.

"You want me to say when the accident happened. But then the paper said who was the one who discovered the accident and at what time, isnt that the same thing?"

"No sir."

"Ok. So I can't put down the specific time of the accident down, since I dont know when my ferret decided to paraglide my camera under the bed, so I put the time and date when I discovered it under the bed?"

"No sir. You have to  put both. When it actually occured, and when you discovered it. And the time of day as well for both."

"But I don't know when it occured."

"Then we can't help you."

"So you don't cover things that get broken when were not at home then?"

"well... Just fill out the form."

"Fine. So this will allow you to cover  the cost then?"

"Not neccesarily, we dont cover maintenance costs."

"Excuse me?"

"No sir, we only cover broken property."

"But my camera was broken, and I got it fixed."

"Yes sir. But we rarely cover fixing."

"So if something brakes in my home, you can only cover it if it remains broken?"

"Yes sir."

"How?"

"Just fill out the form please."

And that was it. I took a wad of forms, on the verge of throwing the chair out the window, and walked home. Since I missed my bus. Fine. I put on my computer and hook it up on the tv, ready to watch a DVD. Lo and behold, the picture goes all screwy. Dunno why, but from then on I can't view my computer through a tv for some reason. The picture is all crap. Like theres some sort of signal malfunction. Figures. Oh well, nothing else to do except pop a pizza in the micro. I put it on. Go to my room. A minute later I smell smoke, I run to the kitchen... The Micro is on fire. I freak out. Open the door and notice quite suprisingly that the pizza is fine. Not burning or anything. Then I look up inside the micro and spot the entire top of the micro is in flames, billowing out. Thankfully the flames went out and that was that. No food. No insurance, and no DVD watching for today. Well, tommorow I gotta go fill out another claim for my micro now. Wonder how THAT goes...

Insurance companies suck.

My sister's phone got stoled when she was out drinking and they basically said "We'll only cover her if she was paying due care and attention when she lost it". Which means she can only claim on her 'theft, loss and damage' policy if she was physically assaulted and had the phone forcibly taken from her. Because any other instance or scenario would have been the result of her not paying due care and attention.

Insurance companies are a bunch of ****ing dicks.

I seem to remember having the phone line running to my house being struck by lightning once, thus completely destroying a poor 33.6 Kbps modem plugged into the line (think molten innards). Cheap, bought second hand, US Robotics dealie. Insurance company replaced it with a brand new Pace 56 Kbps modem. Which did cool stuff.

That's only my experience, though. They've probably become a lot more uncooperative since then.

not all of them.

My laptop, my precioussssssss, has had some issues with a PCMCIA bay (the ***** wouldn't close) so the insurance company picked my laptop up, flashed the BIOS, replaced my keyboard, and the PCMCIA bay all for free. And now, when the screen sprung two columns of always on blue subpixels, they weill replace the screen for free.

Yeah, if there are other people in the insurance building, just strart yelling about how they ripped you off and how no one should pay their policies. They'll give you whatever you want just to shut you up.

You know... I think I'll do that...

*Drinking as we write this.*

You know, with my luck, I probably got radiated when I opened the oven and looked inside. Flames in a micro is never a good thing. Well.
