Title: Real Firepower
Post by: Beowulf on April 28, 2004, 05:09:47 pm
Here's a more "realistic" turret design. It was inspired partly by one I saw in a Cowboy Bebop episode during a firefight. If you don't watch Cowboy Bebop, you should... at least for the space battles.

Note how the ammo feed is constructed as part of the cannon, and guides in a track on the chasis of the turret. This is the feeding mechanism. Just to get the ol' +1 on reality.

The whole thing is 630 polys. Viable for SCP?

Now if only we could get rotation of subobjects on command... ;7

sweet. A little high poly though, for a turret. Still, SWEET. :D

I love that show.  Ending was kind of sad though.  The mushroom episode was the best.

sweet turret.

Thanks mikhael, Solid Snake.

Yeah the mushrooms were funny... that with Ein hopping around. THAT was the best.

Well, that looks like a futuristic version of the phallanx weapon system found on US ships :)

Always loved that with CB, all of it looked really convincing.
Oh, and the best episode was Mad Pierrot.

whatsup with it, anyway? I set my recorder for it, but haven't been getting anything new lately :(

Great model, tho! :D I agree, looks like a futuristic version of the phalanx guns on US carriers :)

is that really a bad thing? phalanx cannons look badass...

Shorten up the barrel a tad, perhaps make the "dome" a bit shorter, and stick it on a bomber...

Looks like it'd make a kick-ass anti-missile turret, ala the AMS systems from battletech...

Can you rotate the barrels on turrets in FSO? I was under the impression that you could only do it with gunpoints?

For big ships it'd work OK. I don't know about bombers...

I agree with paintball gun comment, that "canister" in top makes it look bit funny, without it and stands for canister it could look extremely elegant and beautiful, as it does it now too

The real thing is a radar, not a canister :p

that big pod on top doesnt really look that great to me, but still it is an awesome model.

You could always flip the radar canister on its side (parallel to the base, perpindicular to the gun barrel) and see how that looks.

I'm more concerned with the polyliciousness of the rest of the model though. Its very high poly for a turret.
