Title: what other pc games you play?
Post by: KS_Al on May 01, 2004, 09:48:18 pm
Games hm......
OpFlash of course and it's expansions.
Great Game played it for a long time and very realistic compared to BF 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam unlike those :).  except the graphics part..... anyways.  You can drive, fly and go in boats and shoot down enemies in your helicopter or A-10 or snipe away from a distance or launch a rocket from the javelin into a T-80.  It brings ultimate fun and realism unlike any other game.

Rise of Nations: RTS game of the year by Gamespy.com  Great RTS hooked on it actually.  Very fun multiplayer especially when you have control of nuclear weapons.  ( i'm a nuclear-holic and tend to launch one every 1 minute)  Fun game and challenging AI.  I can't beat AI at moderate they constantly attack and flank you.  well it's easier at easy ;)  If you guys remember Empire Earth you'll love this game.

Counter-strike and day of defeat:  Counter-strike everyone knows that game so that's explainable.     For Dod it's allies vs Axis.  Play on D-day maps and in Anzio and many places.  you play as the British and use the Enfield rifle or Bren or be the Allies and use the Thompson or the infamous M1 garand.  or axis Kar98 and STG44 (automatic rifle) or MP40.  for info //www.dayofdefeat.com

Soldier of Fortune II
Well one thing i'll say it's damn bloody for those who love gore and pieces flying out and organs spewing out this is the game for you.  Fun game using a M-4, shotgun, Desert Eagle and many more guns.  You'll have a ton of fun.  But make sure you have a decent system to play this to see the guts of one guy to show.  Warning: Do not eat when you play.  happened to me once and I got sick.

Medieval Total War:
RTS strategy warfare.  If you love big battles with 10,000 to 20,000 men army fighting each other this is a great game.  You can use artillery, Trebuchets, catapults, archers, knights, Footmen, pikemen, and many more units in these battles.  This really shows realistic battles and are big and massive and challenging.  AI flanks you and uses reserves for backup.  I was playing the campaign map and i was very angry because the Pope kept capturing Rome and I kept sending 5,000 men to quarrel with his army.  M TW brings many war stories to tell and is different everytime you play.

The Sims and expansions:
Alot of PC gamers know this game and of course it's one of the greatest games made.  It's fun to create lives and watch them florish or bring them to hell and die.  Either way it's fun.  Either i want my character to make it to the top and be a CEO of a corporation and kept up with his skills or make my character a soccer mascot and own a small house with no TV.  There's so many possibilities.  I'm sure some of you have played this game.  BTW Sims 2 is coming out soon.

Rainbow Six 3 is another game to play on the computer!  Killing terrorists is your mission.  You start at the briefing screen and you are being briefed by Mr. Clark aka John Clark (did you know Mr. Clark was before known as Mr. John Kelly ex-navy seal nasty history) and briefed by the woman who tells your objectives.  Soon you will going to the equipment room to arm your weaponry.  Usually i take an MP5 with a scope and grenades and a heartbeat sensor and then i arm my teammates.  Then you plan what routes to take either to cover or flashbang or grenade and make plans for other squads (since you can command up to three original RS had 4).  Then you go in.  And there you go you have to becareful crawl around the corners always peek and don;t rush it will get yourselves killed.  then kill the terrorists.  Tango down, hostage rescued.  of course then there is multi and there is more fun to talk about.

SWAT 3 is another game I love to play.  thing is it's not you shoot and kill.  You are a SWAT officer you are to save lives not to steal them.  Most of the missions are saving hostages.  Mostly when ERT is not there SWAT is there (I think)  Anyways you go in with your team and either find a way to make the criminal surrender or neutralize him.  Normally a flashbang works or smoke grenades work 85% of the time.  If he doesn't surrender and point the gun at you, shoot him.  Of course if you shoot him in the back and don't say SWAT put your guns down and don't give him warning a penalty goes to you.  It's pretty fun and realistic.  the only thing that disappointed me was gun sounds.

Well that's not all the games i played but what about you guys?

It's a mix between Space Empire 4 and ADOM (a net hack clone). I also tend to play Scorched3D sometimes, and Homeworld on occasion.

Don't have room on my poor 10GB HD for Renegade, NWN, and Freespace at the same time so I rotate NWN and FS2, but I'm addicted to Renegade multi so it stays put.

You haven't lived until you've blown a Mammoth Tank to hell(by your self, mind) with a Personal Ion Cannon or Rail Gun.

I only played it for the first time a year ago, I thought it was very good, much more liekly to play that again than Deus Ex 2.

Civilization III. It's too addictive. I will now establish communism and guide my English Empire to it's righteous path! or something

EV: Nova. Argh. Addictive.

OFP: Resistance, Finnish Defence Forces Mod and everything else 1.94->. Pure sex. I never though killing Russians with a goddamn XM8 (OICW replacement) would be of so much fun.

Steel Panthers: World at War [h2hMOD] and Steel Panthers: MBT with Armour Addon m4 (?).
In the WW2, I will, naturally, be the Germans and arm my Kampfgruppe with Königtigers, Panther Gs and Waffen-SS. In modern war, I just tard around.
Freespace 2, now and then.
Soldat. Oh, Soldat. Thou art the best.

I don't play a lot.

FreeSpace with SCP of course.

Age of Wonders 2: been playing it and restarting over and over for ages, but I'm fairly close to finishing it for once, but I haven't played it much as of late.

Deus Ex 2: Trying to finish this one too, not half as good as the first one, but still decent.

Neverwinter Nights: Good game, but I'm a little disappointed with the storyline of the main campaign in the original NWN, Baldurs Gate 2 was FAR better in that section But still a good game :)

Farcry: Tried it out a bit, but I'm putting it on hold for a while until I don't have anything better to do.
Storyline is a little bit to weak to hold my attention atm :(
Graphics are just pure bliss though.

CivilizationIII: Addictive doesn't even begin to describe this game.
My Viking Democracy pwnz j00, technological superiority all the way for me :D

Dungeon Keeper: Awesome game, for once you can be the evil guy and kill the goodie two shoe knights, and throw them in the torture chamber and watch them suffer, and then convert them to your evil cause :D

And the game that occupies most of my time:

Final Fantasy XI
(playing on server: Fairy)
*wondering what servers the people who plays FFXI here are on*

I have a ton of games I should try out but I just can't seem to take the time to do it.

A few weeks ago I picked up Deus Ex 2, Independence War 2 and Unreal: Return to Na Pali from ebay; pretty good deal for $35 especially as they were all unopened.

I just finished DX2 and had mixed impressions. The framerate was by far the biggest problem; it is anywhere between decent and terrible, which is hard to understand considering that the game doesn't look all that good. The graphics aren't bad (except for some textures), but a game like UT2004 that uses the same core engine both looks and runs much better on my machine. It definitely feels like it was rushed and the console influence is evident in a number of places (simplified inventory system, no localized damage, unified ammo, etc.). On the plus side, the already great nonlinear gameplay of the original has been made much better and the story is excellent, so it's worth playing through a few times, although I am not going to be doing that with my current hardware.

I probably will be picking up UT2004 very soon as well.

Not really playing many games at the mo - lack of computer (this is my dad's) and exams being the main obstacles.

Only game installed on this machine is Rise of Nations. Pretty good, but basically Age of Empires 3.

I've got the following games on the shelf to play when I get my new puter next month (if the bastards at the Inland Revenue give me my money back):

Far Cry
Splinter Cell 2
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Operation Flashpoint
Rainbow Six 3
Battlezone
GTA: Vice City

I'll also be trying to get SCP to work, replaying Crimson Skies, and playing lots of Looking Glass games :D

Deus Ex 2 was way too simplified.
The small things like actually entering the code to the computer systems and the locks in the original Deus Ex is something I miss in the sequel.
Saying that the game is rushed is almost an understatement, with more time working on that game and polishing it more it could have been much better.
But the story in itself, and the atmosphere of the game, those are good parts of it :)

I don't think more development time would have significantly helped DX:IW. IMHO, the biggest problem with it was the core philosophy-- it was screwed up at the fundamental design level. The designers got this crazy notion that the one thing people liked best about DX was the open-ended gameplay (even though it wasn't really open-ended at all), so they streamlined every other element of the game into oblivion. And then what little was left, they couldn't even get that right! They wanted the player to be free to do whatever they wanted, but they also wanted to make sure the player could never get the game in an unwinnable state. So the end result is a game where you can make tons of decisions, but none of them matter.

To add insult to injury, Alex D is a whiny *****.

Agreed, whatever you actually do in the game just leads to the exact same thing, so the gameplay isn't exactly very open in that manner.

Whiny ***** indeed, I miss the old JC.
Would be much more fun to play him with the Helios infusion me thinks :D

I agree with ZB and Zul on DX2. I tried to actually like the game, but in the end the "open yet closed" gameplay doesn't work as a whole. Sure individual things in DX2 might be awesome, like assassinating a guy in his apartment using various methods and it's a little more flexible than DX1 in *some* of those situations, but the main plot of the game isn't as flexible as it could have been.

Similarly, I think DX2 is a bit too sci-fish of a setting/cyberpunk as opposed to DX1 which seemed attached enough to reality to be more conspiracy theoryish.

Nice deal. I'm still scared of eBay... :nervous:

Soldat, and Outer Space, a czech multiplayer Master of Orion kind of thing. Mostly text and one turn every hour.

Someone mentioned Battlezone. I have a copy but I can't get it to run on WinXP. Any tips?

Just stick with sellers with lots of positive feedback and no negative feedback. I've bought over a hundred things on eBay over the years and never had any trouble.

On the contrary, sellers are far more likely to be ripped off by buyers.
