Ok, let's assume for a moment this guy is telling the truth and really didn't know what the passenger intended, and let's assume that he had asked the man what his intentions were when he got into the cab (something you never do as a Taxi Driver) and the man had said 'I'm going out for the evening.'. What happens then?
I can almost see it now...
Man get's into Cab.
Taxi Driver : Excuse me for asking Sir, but I was wondering if I might ask if you were, sort of, ummmm... a Suicide Bomber?
Passenger : No, I am not.
Taxi Driver : Oh..... Well, that's ok then! Where to?
:D
-
Schwartzbaum? *chuckles*
IMHO this guy hasn't done anything wrong
-
He seems to have been made a scapegoat poor chap :(
-
He's a taxi driver, its his job to drive people around. And what if he had asked the man, "Are you a suicide bomber?". What do you think, he would have said yes?
C'mon, this is just stupid. I'm sure the guy feels terrible about it as it is, no need to throw him in jail.
-
Agreed. It's the job of the police and military to weed these people out, not the citizenry.
Of course, weeding the whole Palestinian territory...(never mind..)
-
as long as there is oppression in Palestine, there will always be peoplewho will fight that oppression (watches for helicopters)
-
Now that's a stupid verdict IMO.
-
What the Palestinians need right now is a Ghandi, a Martin Luther King, and if the Israeli government shoots them, then maybe we can finally get Sharon for war crimes
Edited for embarrasing content
-
Turambar, I think he meant the verdict given by the court, not what you said.
-
what happened?
lol
-
Just edit it to say 'Ignore me' or something :)

'Tis funny, I almost posted "Now that's a stupid sentence IMO", but changed it to avoid confusion over whether I was referring to Turambar's "sentence" or the court sentence. :p

It's a crazy case, but one that I doubt would ever even get to court outside of Israel, so most of us have nothing to worry about. Interesting point though - what if the guy had gotten where he was going by bus? It'd be... interesting to watch the incredible public fallout as the Jerusalem bus service timetables compeltely fell apart as the bus driver asked every passenger whether or not they were a suicide bomber as they got on.

Timetable? Jerusalem buses are on a timetable? How come no one ever told me this!? :p
Funny you should mention bus (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/3421569.stm) drivers (http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20040122-080004-1093r.htm) asking (http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2004/s1045581.htm) their passengers if they are bombers, though. :p
-
Odd.. I should really have remembered this before I posted the first bit, but do you know if any of the bus drivers survived a bomb blast?
-
Yeah, but they're usually injured. Buses are different than taxis in that bombers don't want to blow up a mere taxi, they use them to get to their target. Buses, however, are a target.
