This is appalling.
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040507/325/et1ec.html
This is going to be horrendous for all coalition troops....
-
Abdul-Satar al-Bahadli, a follower of radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, also offered rewards for capturing members of Iraq's Governing Council.
mmmmm, there's trouble a comin'...
-
Wow, these people are sick, crazy, and loony. How you can call these people civilized I'd never know.
-
sick. ****ing sick pieces of ****.
-
You guys seem to have forgotten that our people have gone out there to bomb, kill and slaughter them.
You've also forgotten some of the things US troops did to Vietnamese civilians in the Vietnam war...
I'm not saying its right - I agree it's disgusting, wrong and horrible - but I can't call them sick without calling my own country and her allies sick... there is no "them and us" there is only humanity - and even if you decide to call them "them" and us "us", we're all still sick people.
Unfortunately, "we" seem to think "we're" justified. I'm glad I'm a civilian.

Kal: touche
If ever you feel the need to put this news in to perspective, just ask. I'm going to hold off on posting links to the newest abuse stories coming out of Iraq, cause I don't want to derail the thread, but implying that "we" are civilized while "they" are barbarians is supremely ironic.
-
I dont agree with most offensive wars myself (those instigated in order to occupy and take over country, not defend yourself from an immediate threat). I do however approve of most actions taken by the UN, such as Kosovo, or the original gulf war.

I have to agree on that one. but in terms of what the Us did to the vietnamese, times have changed ( in most cases) and the Britishs soldiers, in my opinion, conduct themselves far better than the US anyway. It is the british that are facing this remember.

So, the fact that after Gulf War 1, the US put military bases in Kuwait, and that after Kosovo, NATO annexed the Kosovo region and now runs the place as a protectorate, those don't fall under the "instigated in order to occupy or take over a country" category? How very intersting.

it was for their own good, protection :D
oh wait a minute... sounds strangely familiar that...
Protecting the iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam? Those politicians... meh..
All I can really say is wars suck
Seems the word of today is touche , Rictor :)

The simple fact that is virtually always true:
Politicians=Wars=****ing Stupid Pieces of ****
And I find that news article sickening
Kal: this kind of stuff was appalling then, and it is even more so today.

Guys, when you're friggin putting out ads and announcing to everyone rewards to capture women to use as slaves... I can't even type, do you guys not see how fu*ked up that is? There is a line that shouldn't be crossed and this is one of them. No matter how "uncivilized" you claim the US or any 1st world power is, I don't think you'd ever find national advertisement to capture a woman for slavery w/ rewards.
And no, no matter how many bad words you call me and how many sticks and stones break my bones, there's nothing you can do to make me think otherwise.

But the thing is, this wasn't done on a national level. It was one cleric, and god knows there's bound to be a few nutty ones in a large enough group. He isn't speaking for any large faction, and certainly not for the Iraqi people. I doubt he even speaks for al-Sadr, cause if he supported this, he would have made the annoucement himself. He's radical, yes, but he has held off on directly declaring war on the US or the IGC.
Its like the one US general that said how Allah is the devil and he's a fake god and how his (the general's) god is the true god. There's a few loons in every bunch.
-
Agreed, times like those im glad im an atheist. :nervous:

"She should be handed to the office of Sadr, the martyr, and she will be treated as a concubine."
correct me if I'm wrong but isnt Sadr still alive?

You're right, it's much worse than putting electric probes in Iraki prisoners anuses coz, you see, the US soldiers have the decency to do it secretly.

a little shock to the anus isn't a bad thing :nervous:
-
id sure like to hear more bout that
but we shouldnt derail the topic :p
-
I think this is a direct result of the pictures of Iraqi women being raped in circulation. Fake imo but probably not this guys.
-
blah blah poor iraqi blah blah waaah freakin' waah. See, it's okay if they gangrape a female british solider because we intruded on their precious territory.
So if you cut someone off on the freeway by accident, that person should be able to murder your whole family in response. Great.
Gotta love balance.

I was afraid this thread would take this angle... Guys please be nice to eachother if not to everyone else in the world - HLP is a community where borders and boundries don't apply... no matter what you feel about real world events, don't take it out on people here.
On that note, I think its time to start cutting back on the political/war related threads. Almost everything to say has been said.. it's getting tiresome.
