Title: Enterprise 3X21 [Spoilers]
Post by: Ashrak on May 08, 2004, 12:02:17 am
Spoiler:

ok. so uhm first time ent went 100 years back in time right... and then they came and tried to help the other ent which eventually got to escape ... so how the **** did 1 of the ents end up in the past if they managed to drive through the tunnel without going to the past

paradox dont you think?

the grandfather paradox, to be exact, which is discussed fervently among trekkies every time an episode involving time travel comes on.

*hasn't seen it*

What I don't understand is how sending the Enterprise back in time 100 years ensured the Sphere Builders win. I mean, surely they coulda just photon'd the **** out of the Xindi in the past and settled it then.

well the xindi are a LOT older than humans and they have a lot more ships than 1 ;)

and time travel as such is impossible dimensional travel on the other hand...

In the last scene T'Pol mentioned that because the Enterprise never went back in time that Enterprise #2 could've been erased. Archer then noted that they still remembered them.

The only way this can be explained if the 'multiple universe timetravel'-rule applies here instead of the 'single universe timetravel'-rule.

This could be because it was caused by a natural phenomena and not under controlled circumstances that the actual factions use.

If Starfleet were to kill the Xindi now, or in the past, then they wouldn't not be there in the future (rmeember the future guy, and the Enterprise J?) Thus, the sphere-builders would be that much more likely to win. That's one of the main ideas of the season.. or at least the aim of mr. Timetravel.

I think it's just another sign of how everything is getting extreemly ****ed up.

Yeah, I agree.... I'm really wondering how this season is gonna end and how they're gonna shape the next one up... that is if they DO have a next season...

by the way, I'm a fan of the show, and I like how everything is getting ****ed up, time travle shows never show what happens when time travle is used wrongly, they just say it's bad, this is the first time I think I've ever seen a 4 dimentional war being played out like it should

By killing a species who is in the past wouldn't prevent you from actually killing them... in the past?

Without knowledge of their existance you cannot do anything to them, with that knowledge you can but if you eliminate them that knowledge dissappears.

:( my head hurts :(

ST time travel has a way for you to protect yourself from the effects of your time manipulation, this was seen a lot in Voyager.

Yup. Tons of ways, if you mean IC.

OOC: The Reset Button was explained somewhat by Relativity.

Braxton mentioned all Janeway's screw-ups and temporal paradoxes that he had to go and fix.

Hey. Wait just a goddamn minute....

Y'know the USS Relativity (http://www.stguardian.to/mixed/time/relativitywall.jpg)? And y'know the Klingons sign up with the Feds?

Anyone else thinking the Relativity looks suspiciously like a Negh'var?

I dunno. By the end of DS9, Ferenginar was looking more and more like a Federation planet than a capitalist throne-world.

Rather nice ship, the Relativity. Far nicer than the silly Enterprise J....

Is that a ST ship?  Looks nothing like what I've seen.

no, it's canon, just 600 years ahead of what you're used to.

What I'm used to?  I'm only used to Enterprise, so does that mean it's during the Next Generation timeline or before it?  Or after?  Or is that during the original star trek?  If I wear a blue sock and a red sock and you were to wear 3-d glasses, would my big toe bite you?

Well after it. It was a ship that intervened periodically on Voyager, given their habit of severely messing with the space-time continuum. Surprised it hasn't made an appearance yet in the Temporal Cold War....
