Title: Powersupplies..
Post by: Turnsky on May 08, 2004, 07:53:46 am
okay, i'm thinking of getting a new power supply soon enough, and i need some reccomendations, now this, being a board full of gamers, some might know of a decent powersupply, so, any reccomendations?
it's to replace the 300w in my horrendously underpowered PC.
i'm looking for a 480 to 500 watt powersupply (possibly 550w, i haven't decided yet)

so, any reccomendions?  ohyeah, it needn't have all the glowy LED fans and ****e, either, since it's going in my Lian-Li case.. *figures that case should last as long as the ATX format is useful*

I just went thru the same process.  Try the reviews here (http://www.amdboard.com/psu.html) .  Of course, as soon as you find one you like, you'll find a review that says it sucks...  BTW, I ordered a Thermaltake 480W, in case you wondered. :)

I've got an Antec330W that came with my Antec AMG660 case....works great.  Antec and some of the other guys do a very nice job on their power supplies...buy from them...even their lower rated PSU's (in terms of wattage) are more effective at supplying full power to your components than some of the cheaper brands at higher wattage levels.

hmm, the antecs seem like a good buy, and cheaper too..

Antec TruePower series is quite nice. The SmartPower series can't really handle overclocking and high-end graphics cards (9800XT, for example) at the same time.

How about Sparkle?
I've been using a 400W PS from them for 2+ years so far and it's been rock solid, cept for taking the noisy Nidec fan out and putting a high-flow panaflo in.

For real future-proofing, I'd suggest a Truepower 550w. Of course, who knows what form factor will be used in a few years, considering the fact that Intel has cancelled Tejas, defeating the purpose of the BTX form factor.

I'm getting this one: http://www.pchardware.co.il/docs/pd-272683257.htm

Read a bunch of reviews on it, and it seems to be a good buy all around.
