All the current pre-3.6 builds support it :)

Downloaded the hiplanets several times now and every time it fails CRC.  All the rest came over fine.  Anyone else having trouble or should I keep retrying?

Please tell me why my missions didn't make it, so I can fix it, please.:sigh:
I read the post in there but I don't know what multilingual support is or how I messed it up
Edit: I mean I wouldn't care if you were waiting for the nebula backgrounds, but I think I would need to fix this, whatever it is.

The (mv_zpack) is the all in one package? Which version of Lightspeed's planets does it include?

Every message is an XSTR() which contains the English message and a string number to translate with.  All of the XSTR() numbers in your missions had been reset to -1.  Fred probably did this without direct action from you but it does need to be put back the way it was.  You'll have to look at the original mission files to get the true string numbers for each XSTR().  I have to warn you though that there is an average of about 110 XSTR()'s in each mission.

A far simpler plan would be to simply cut and paste the backgrounds section into a freshly extracted set of missions in notepad. Probably take about 20 minutes or so to do the lot.

I try these with the last build (4-26) and the game CTD's on mission load if the sp_effects.vp is present.  I had to hide it in another directory to get it to work again.

Looks like it got corrupted while it was uploaded, I'm re-uploading now. Should be done in 10 minutes.

1) Check for any other non-vanilla FS2 files besides the mediaVP
2) Have you tried making a new pilot?
3) The newest build is Kazan's 5-03-04 build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,23384.0.html); you might try it.

sp_effects.vp has been updated to fix this as well as a couple of table issues.  Download it again and you shouldn't have any problems.

Ohh, yes, the models bug - forgot about that. :o

Indeed, make sure you have the latest version of the files.

with the new vp I no longer have access to any of the missiles except rockeye, hornet, harpoon, and the piranha... not sure why or what happened to cause that... it still lets me do the missions I was up to though

Yes, the explosions (my zip) will effectively kill any lower end system in one wipe. I've especially warned on my site :)

If you want the slowdown to go away, delete any LOD anis from my zip (namely files that end with _1, _2 and so on) - this will reduce visual quality again, but will speed up back to normal. And still look a bit better :)

What system does it work on?
I got -
AMD XP 2500
512 DDR RAM
FX 5600
XP PRO

I was hopping that was going to be good enough to run SCP, maybe its time to upgrade... (again...)

If it doesn't run extremely well on your system Ubermetroid than there is definately something wrong.  I haven't tested the new media VP but the idea should be to keep speed while boosting visuals...

There may be a single component doing the massive speed kill...because my experience recently is that the entire game has actually been sped up.  I don't drop below 60fps in the biggest battles of BlackWater Ops that I've designed yet...that was unbelievable because before my FPS were dropping like mad.

ew, new pilot means reflying all the missions :( maybe some nice code guru will make a pilot repair utility for everyone who keeps having pilot errors? ;)

on a side note, anytime there's a lot of explosions and I launch a missile during them, there's a 1-2 second pause in the game... nasty little thing...

my system is pretty up to date too, like uber's

type in "-allslev" in the custom flag and it opens all the missions for you :)

1) Using the -allslev switch makes all single player missions available from the tech room.

2) It's pretty easy to extract and rebuild the campaign file to allow you to start at any point in the campaign. Simply look at the Gameplay section of my FAQ for a nice table listing the ships and weapons you'll have to allow then simply delete all the missions preceeding the one you want to start at. Would take me about 2-3 minutes tops to do.

Yea, that is what I was thinking too.  With all the options turned on I get 100 fps - to 15 fps when there alot of explosions on screen.

I will have to test this out alot more to see whats up.  :sigh:

removed the media pack, all my missiles came back... still think it's a pilot file error?
Title: 3.6 Media VP
Post by: Antares on May 10, 2004, 08:29:46 pm
Yes, damn it.  The VP includes altered versions of the standard campaign missions, plus new weapons and new effects for said weapons.  I'll bet you a penny that one of these things is bonking up your current pilot, and that if you just went to the bloody trouble to make a new one, your problems would go away.

Huff.  :p

Post by: WMCoolmon on May 10, 2004, 08:38:14 pm
The missions and campaign file were removed. If you don't want to remake your pilot file, try playing without speffects. It's the only file that contains new tables.

However, if you've already loaded FS2 your pilot file may not work properly any more even if you uninstall the tables (At least, that's been my experience).

What file contains the Freespace 2 campaign, and you'd use the Campaign Editor in Fred2_open to edit it, right?  I think I could figure it out pretty well as long as I can find out where to extract the campaign file from and how to put it back after it's edited.

You'll need VPView (links in my FAQ) to extract the freespace2.fc2 file from the root_fs2.vp

As you say open the file in the campaign editor and then save the file in your data\missions folder.

These look outstanding, apart for the effects one which still has several problems. The nebula one seems to be missing from the list though; is that one part of the 3.6 pack? It might also be a good idea to move the glowmaps from the core vp to the shine one, since they aren't absolutely necessary and fit into kind of the same category as the shinemaps.

LS, do you think you can give a short list of the table changes made in speffects? I would like to use these things in my campaign while still using all the changes made in my own tables (and I'm sure many others would want to do the same), so I would need to add in all the changes in the speffects tables to my own. I would go through the table entries one by one and look for anything new, but I'm sure I would miss something this way.

speffects also contain Turambar's afterburner trails. That adds a $Trail component to the $Afterburner tag

Credits fixed. :)

All the nebulas I remember adding were not in the main campaign, aside from the ones that were just resized. Ergo, they were removed because they would only benefit someone who was making missions.

Lightspeed hasn't released any of his campaign-nebula remakes, but if and when he does, they'll probably be put in the VP.

Are they available anywhere though? I had downloaded a pack of them from the wiki media VP page but I seem to have lost that copy and can't find it online anymore.

[edit] never mind, found a link here after a few searches. :D

I just updated the VPs to integrate a few (logical) suggestions. mv_shine is no more; it's become part of mv_textures. This means that you won't be able to move the glows and shines separately, unless you extract them from the VP. Alternatively, I think shinemaps aren't loaded when you select -shine.

mv_textures also contains LS's new fighter maps for the Hercules, Dragon, Ulysses, and Seth. It's all you need to download to get these if you're using zlib or the base 3.6 VPs.

I'll be updating the wiki soon.
