wow, complete newbie.... paper & scan usually is the easiest way to go.. and cheaper too..

just use the Import -> (whatever the name of your scanner is) and it'll run the scanner, and import whatever you scan in..

just have a play around with PS, you'll get the hang of it.
(what, didya think i learnt whatever skill i have from a book?..;) )

Do that, or if you've got a good mouse and no time for scanning something in, you can try to draw it all out using the paintbrush and line tools :D

Acutally,  redrawing on a new layer, with the line tool, what you've scaned, is probably the best technic for outlines.
But yeah, it's tedious :p

Well, that's not exactly from personal experience ( I've tried it too tho ), that's just I spend a lot of time on the web looking at artist websites ( japanese, mostly ), and from time to time, some are nice enough to give little walkthroughs with an exemple, and, well, half the time, that's how they do.

Well for a newbie i have some good advice for you:) go buy the adobe photoshop classroom in a book, and the photoshop woo!! handbook, 2 great books for studying photoshop, and after you finish reading those 2 you know enough to make cool graphics.

i prefer drawing myself and scanning it into the computer, although if you are targeting for drawing/painting, then adobe illustrator is the better program, photoshop is more for image and graphic editing, and illustrator for drawing, painting and illustrations.

Turnsky, what model of tablet is that?  It looks a bit like a Cintiq, though I could be mistaken...

And as for the lensflare filter:  Go get SolarCell, and stack the flare on top of whatever it spits out.  That's probably the only use for it.  Most common flares are best done by hand.

 thx guys i'll fool around with Ps a bit longer.

turnsky: that thing is HUGE. i've only found older models of drawingboards.

USSAlexander: i'll see if i can purchase those books. maybe they can even help little ole me.

Nico: ....Line tool k i'll try it.

Thanks for the help fellas, with all this new info i'll be able to start drawing....I wonder if the older models of Drawingboards will work on a new computer

hey, i like the lens flare filter! i use it in thruster glows for those nice radial lines, then i blur them, desaturate them, recolor them, and make it all look right
