Hi people. I return to trouble you once again.
I'm having a large issue with PCS converting COB to POF. Basically, it seems to randomly do the GenerateBSP error. I will convert a few models and it'll do them fine. Then it'll bring up the error. I try again later on, and the error is gone.
Is this something wrong in my models that PCS is only catching half the time (for your info, the models vary from only 200 polys to 2000 polys)? The thing is, it sometimes does it for low polys and not for high, and of course the other way round. It does just seem to be random.
Also, is there a size issue?
I've also increased my virtual memory, just in case. When I did that I was able to convert half my models across.
Sorry for troubling you guys. This is a major university project, half my group don't know what they're doing and thanks to them we've got just over a week left.

I've not had this problem, but I never convert more than 2 models at a time. Have you tried this on another PC? And does it prevent you from getting all of your work done? If not, just close it, and continue. I know I'm no help, but that's my 2 Cents.
-
I haven't got another PC I can try this on, and I've got about another 10 models to convert.
I went away and had my dinner (turned off my PC) and when I came back I upped my virtual memory to as high as it would go (Windows XP 2000mb) and successfully converted 10 models (I've got about 20). Then the GenerateBSP error came up and I couldn't even convert ones that had converted before.
I think this could definitely be a problem with my virtual memory, or just memory usage anyway. I know that problem is normally reserved for poly and size issues but it has converted large models with high poly counts in the past.

Have you tried the 'Dump BSD' feature in PCS? It may help.
-
Didn't know about that... I'll have a look. Thanks.
-
It's in the subobject tab.
-
Yeah - that can't help. Unfortunately I can't get the models in in the first place with that error, and I think Dump BSP will just get rid of the bsp info for a subobject.
Thanks anyway.

You might want to PM Kazan. It's his baby.
-
I've had this problem for a while, so Kazan can smack my wrist for not reporting it. Some of my models HAVE to be converted using the first boot of PCS, and subsequent boots before a reset refuse to compile it, I've absolutely no idea why, and, In my defence, I thought it was my models at fault as well. The only cure I've found is a complete reset of the system.
It doesn't bother me much, and annoys the hell out of Sharon if she's downloading, so hey, every cloud ;)
-
Oh well. Bed soon anyways. I'll try converting the rest tomorrow, after my PC has had a good rest.
I'll let you guys know how it gets on. Who knows - I may actually put the mod up. It's a bizarre humour mod which we've nicknamed "Falling Over In Space"...
-
Just to check. Are you using the most recent version of PCS? It should be the 4-3-2004 build.
If you are you might want to try PMing Kazan directly as he has said that he doesn't check the modding forums often.
-
I might well do that tomorrow Kara, too late at night to start typing it all up again ;) I might be a memory leak or the like, or it may just be my models :D
-
I'll have to search round for the latest version of PCS, since I know I'm not using the latest. I take it it'll still accept the existing converted POF files.
-
Yeah. All the versions are backwards compatible as far as I know.
-
Nope, giving my PC a good rest wasn't the solution. Nor was downloading the latest version of PCS.
I've even tried reducing the polys, making sure they're all stuck together and so on, but so far nothing.
-
Now THIS is confusing.
I've got the latest version of PCS as well and tried that with one of my huge, high poly models.
It converted it just before crashing.
Hmm...
-
Try closing the render window before converting. It seems to crash alot for me, as soon as the preview loads in the window.:doubt:
-
yeah, I always close that thing.
