Recently I've bought a new PC... And that's when the problems started.
I'm using XP Prof. on(only new stuff):
-GeForce FX 5950;
-Pentium 4 2.8 HT;
-Kingston Hyper-x Ram(512) ;
-Asus MainBoard(don't remember which one);
Almost everything is correct.. except for AFTERBURNER :(
First I thought it was because of joy(usb)... so I pressed TAB (default afterburner) and ... nothing happened(only get full throtle for a while and sound of empty afterburner). So i've checked on settings and stuff... still nothing. I've reinstalled the game...(after completly deleting it) and it didn't work.
I've been looking for some help on other MBs. The only thing they said is that i should run FS2 in Win98/Me compatibility mode. And so I did... First result of this change was... that there was no joy(usb) at all. It didn't worked and couldn't be found by FS2. :wtf: So I've checked the afterburner on my keyboard... it didn't work :(
I've switched and checked it on every single one compatibility mode and got no results... :( And my friend got it working on his XP Prof...
Could anybody help me??
:sigh:

This is a really old glitch, it has to do with your Windows XP. Try the SCP, but I'm not sure if they fixed it or not ;)
-
This was fixed in the SCP (something about signed and unsigned numbers was the issue IIRC) as of 2 months ago

Well, I want to flight on PXO with my buddies... not playing SP again :sigh:

SCP = Source Code Project.

The masterserver will be up soon and you can play your buddies on FS2_Open instead of FS2 retail. When that happens PXO will almost certainly empty very quickly anyway.
In the meantime did you actually do the compatability thing with the FS2.exe file and not the Freespace2.exe file? Turning on compatability mode for the launcher won't help you much.
-
you did try compatability mode, right? if not, run a search for afterburner not working, and you'll find it...
-
He said he did try it. My question was if he tried it with the correct file.

ah :nervous:... my mistake...
-
Do I have to do this compability thing even if FS works normally for me? I obviously mean normal FreeSpace here.
-
FS1? no, its a fs2 only bug on XP... if it works fine (as it does on my dads laptop) you don't need it... It also affects the ETS with the afterburner...
-
I meant FreeSpace 2. The 'normal FreeSpace' is supposed to be 'retail FreeSpace 2'
-
No. I never needed to run it in compatibility mode on my WinXP laptop.
Besides, I have almost never had to use compatibility mode for any program.
-
Meanwhile PXO is the only option to play with ppl online...
And yeah I've made compatibility on FS2.exe file. I didn't work so I've made it on both... didn't work either so I disabled it.
But thanks anyway!!

Um, if you were paying attention, no, it's not. FS Open also has a multiplayer component :p

Short of playing a LAN game and directly typing in their IP addresses I think so (and I've never tried that either).
That said the online version of FS2_Open is supposed to be pretty close. I've already played on the beta testing version and apparently we're just waiting for it to be put up on a server as it's ready to go up.
We know what caused the problem but I never really heard an explaination for why it affected some versions of XP and not others. All I know is that the function was using machine code rather than C. If you can get a programmer to explain what that means you may be able to figure out what specific part of Xp was causing the problem and disable/patch it.

And we're waiting for Kazan to complete the IRC code.

Yeah but does that need anything from the masterserver?
