Title: about mods ?
Post by: starfox on May 12, 2004, 02:16:48 am
I have question about certain mods, primarily the Babylon Project.
Because their own site is quite....sleepy at the moment, I thought getting answers here would be more quickly.

What graphical encancements (32 -bit. -htl...) TBP can use without crashing ?. I know it does not "officially support FSSCP yet, but surely it can use something that will make it look at least a little better.

I know this may seem quite an odd question, but I'd like to know.

:welcome:

Exits are to the sides and rear, emergency flamethrowers can be found under the seats. And if you run into a large 5-limbed creature while wandering around in the air ducts, give it your lunch and maybe toss it a shoe as well. Hopefully it's just Carl, and he'll leave you be. If you notice any funky changes in the scenery outside the windows, don't worry, it's only the SCP team messing around with reality.

Enjoy your stay!

I would think that you could use the latest environment mapping build in conjunction with TBP, which also includes specular mapping, though it might be a bit strong without any spec maps. Get the build here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,21159.msg468607.html#msg468607). Beyond that, well, you need somene with a better knowledge of the latest commandline option than myself.

Thanks for the very quick answer. As always more comments/suggestions on this matter are extremely welcome.

Btw, what is that "apollo" right beneath my username, will it designate some form of rank, or what ?

You can play TBP with any recent SCP build, it won't crash. But it will look better.
No fancy 32-bit backgrounds yet, but there is some other stuff......

BTW the TBP forums aren't that empty. I see them getting posts all the time. The rest of VWBB might be slow but TBP (and BWO probably) get lots of posts.

Oh, I probably meant that TBP forum is "sleepier" than normal,
since it still takes some time for the patch to come. Alltough once the patch is released, there will certainly be more talks to come.

Yeah but post a question there and you'll get an answer pretty quickly still. Besides coming over here doesn't do anything to make it less sleepy :D

As for the patch they really are taking a lot of time with that. I know the team is taking a break somewhat and new members are beginning to take up the slack but it is taking them a long time.

Maybe they'd be quicker if those of us on HLP showed some more appreciation for the mod. It is one of the best mods released for FS2 and yet it gets very little recognition in comparison to those on HLP.

Sorry, didn't mean absolutely any offence by that "sleepy" thing.
Like the Babylon 5 itself, I really love that mod. It is truly best Freespace 2 mod we have.

My apologies for going little "off-topic"

Nah. No need to apologise :D It's just that I'd hate to see VWBB die because everyone was over here. I think the community can keep both sites alive :)

I still think we should push TBP as a good way to get new blood into the community. There are a lot of people out there who are fans of B5 who've always wanted to play a Babylon 5 game but haven't heard of TBP.  They'll come for B5 but Freespace will also take them :)
