like in: i am making a turret, i am adding the lights now and just trying to get it to work, though i don't quite understand how to make a multi-barrel turret yet :S

Oh.

put a light where you want to set the barrels to rotate.
It has to be set up so that the barrel will rotate around the light, so it's better to set it up with the light at the bottom of the barrel.  *----- And have it glued to the barrels.

Also, put a light in the center of the ship, and glue that to the base of the turret. Then set the barrel-light combo as a child of the base, as a child of the ship.

Its looks OK right now. I would suggest that you maybe shorten the barrels a bit, and make them both the same (unless its important for the story or something that they be different). Make them both like the one on the right, the "box" one. What might also look cool is if you kept the barrel inside the same length, but made the box surrounding it a bit shorter, so the barrel sticks out.

the whole idea was to create a "a-symmetrical" turret.
unless that is an impossibility.

I don't quite understand the glueing part yet, list this, drop down that.
scary stuff.

It's best to use TruView... makes things real easy. Just click and drag.

Well since multiple weapons on turrets don't tend to work (properly or at all, I'm not sure) making an asymmetrical one is probably a waste of time...

thát is exactly what i wanted to hear, now i don't have to keep messing about :p

but it is possible to put the barrel to one side of the turret?

TrueView. :p . Just to compensate the thing with 'Splend'.

He already has it! Isn't that turret so hi-poly that it would dramatically slow the engine down if you place more of them onto your ship?

that's why i am building a new one right now :p

i'll leave the "smaller" barrel away, but i can't seem to think of anything to fill up the "gap" for the gun.

A little cocpit, for a manned turret!

And if it's ~100-200 polies, it won't slow down anything.

but not now, i am making the big boomers first :)

I tried a manned turret once. Was... different. ;)

*update*

so how does this look?

the turret base is not fully modelled, but now i have to...glue the light to the barrel (drag light on barrel in TV, then drag that group on the turret "base"?

Technically looks OK to me. (Lights, axes)

well, this is it:

anybody wants to skin it?
I don't understand much of lithunwrap, it torments my mind :p

I was thinking of it as something frigate sized, long range (hence all the missile thingies), not really tough armor, but like i said, it is for long range engagements.

small fighterbay at the upper aft-turret.

karajorma, you were interested in the thing?

I love it but I doubt I can map it :)  (And when I do learn to map I have a frigate of my own that needs some work).

As I said before though if you want to make a couple of models for MG we'd be happy to have you :)

*raises hand*  But I'm busy, and that's too detailed for me. Sorry.

yeah, too detailed.
vertices are about 30K
slightly overkill, aye? :p

Talk to Raven perhaps? He seemed to specialize in mapping stuff like that back when he was still releasing pics.

And nice design, though not what I'd call especially freespacey.

Unfortunately, he got fed up that we were a little too busy to focus specifically on CIM and he left. I don't know if we'll be seeing any more of him. :(

There are loads of them around. But I doubt any of them would have time to complete your request within half a year. In my experience, things are proceeding too slow around here.

Did I see this in another thread? Now THIS is an awesome Terran design! Also , though there is no realtion intended, it is what I think the Prometheus from Sg-1 (X303) SHOULD have been more like. I mean really they literally took the brick with engines quote from Legend of the Rangers (b5) to heart when they made that sucker! This ship LOOKS like a warship, not a episode of junk yard wars...

Wow...just...wow!
That's quite a piece of work :D

but, er, good luck finding someone to map that sucker.

I think i am going to start on something freespacey now.
mapping that baby will take a looooong time.
still, I am satisfied with my first real attempt at modelling :p
