Those planet renders are amazing. Especially that greenish 'standing alone' one.

This has been and still is my favourite planet that I've rendered. It just... came out exactly the way I wanted it to. ;)

The top one is probably something that a person did for Halo.

Shame you had to use the Atlantis there - the overtiling/blockyness is really noticeable in that pic.

Erm...I'm looking for good tutorials on how to render nice and realistic planets. Any suggestions?

I mean, when I render a planet, it looks fake because I do not know how to make the atmosphere appear as a blurry halo at the edges of the planet.

Setekh, that could sooo be an in game shot, you should try getting back into the rendering rut and make some backgrounds, that planet and the background (minus the stars applyed to a background pof) would be a great bonus to the comunity

As a side note: Halo never orbited a planet.

It was floating between the gas-giant Threshold and its moon Basis. (IIRC).

And how the hell did it stay there unless it was orbiting Threshold? :doubt:

Unless you're basically restating my point that Halo wasn't a ring encircling Threshold and just used the wrong word when you said orbit.

Any collection of FS2 planet images?

I couldn't find any...

When I get photoshop down, I'm going to create different Biographies for freespace systems, for different theories and different possibilities...  even though I'll be pulling stuff out of my arse. :D

I mean a collection of 2D planets people made. An FTP server, a zip file and the like.

Oh, the stuff other's made for MOD's. Well, mv_hiplanets is a neat collection of LS's work on :V:(/NASA) originals, and if you do a search on the forums you'll find some more by other artists. LtCanonfodder made some cool gas giants, and Singh packaged those up with LS's stuff in one ZIP on Sectorgame's FTP.

It wasn't orbitting Threshold. It was balanced between the gravities of the moon and the gas-giant.

Orbitting is travelling fast enough to balance the inertia against the gravitational force. Halo was just.....floating.
