Title: HLP will be down?
Post by: Hippo on May 17, 2004, 02:48:33 pm
I'm guessing this applies to us to?

[q]Tonight (May 17) at midnight PST, the GameSpy Network will be taken offline for network maintenance. All services will be inaccessible for at least an hour, but everything should be back to normal by 3AM.

Thanks,

It does not concern me. It will be 4 AM in Hungary that time. :)

Yeah, does.  The whole of GS going down is a big thing, I doubt we'll escape it. :)

NO!!!!!!!!

I don't think I'll last that long.

hey, nice new title an0n... that the 9000 one?

Apparently.

I'm guessing the next 2 will be:
Bastion
Alpha 1/Sathanas/Lucifer

Or the Aquitaine.

Nah, the Aquitaine was nothing compared to the Galatae.

Wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong.

There's two more titles (in place at any rate) after the 9000 mark. I'm giving no hints as to what they might be.

An efficient way of inspiring an0n to post more. (The  smiley went to holiday, and misses the roll-call in this post. He gets AWOL.)

Not really, see I deliberately didn't tell him when the next title change is. For all he or anyone else knows it's 100,000 posts. I'll have banned him for spamming long before then ;)

I think you have it a bit screwed up there. It will be 4AM here in Halifax at midnight PST, and Hungary is what? +2? +3 GMT? PST is -8 GMT.

Hungary is GMT +1.
So is that GMT -8?
*Does calculation in head*
It doesn't concern me either. :) I will be at school then. :)

I'm guessing there's another ship at 10k, probably the Bastion, and another at 20k saying "Get a ****ing life"

No. But I like the suggestions.. might do some tinkering later.

I think something excessively long would be fitting.

Set 30k posts to read "If you've not earned a custom title by the time you've got this many posts, you're either the most bland, uninteresting person in the world, or an0n."
Title: HLP will be down?
Post by: Moonsword on May 17, 2004, 05:14:21 pm
Then wouldn't that be a sort of custom title?  :)

Yeah, HLP will be down.

It's a rare occassion, every once in a while the sun eclipses the station and the earthlink is broken. We tried to get Setekh to act as a relay but his answer was something along the lines of:

"Are you ****ing nuts?!? There's no ***ing way I'm hauling my ****ing ass all the ****ing way out there you ****ers."

And then Carl started chewing things... and... well it's probably for the best that HLP goes offline for a bit. We need time to wipe up the blood.

Why do I have a stupid moderator title? :(

I'd think I'm much more deserving (good or bad) than that...

I could change it to "Stupid Moderator" tomorrow if you like. Your call. ;)

Does that mean I get to moderate stupidity!? ;7

Somewhat OT, lately, I've been only able to visit HLP through a proxy, because my connection to the server dies somewhere in the states, at hop 17...... This has been going on for most of the last week, any idea what's causing it?

Have you tried using the main deflectors to create an inverse tachyon pulse, then venting plasma from the warp drive?

Just a thought...

No, the hub is also part of the link to deflector controll, and the plasma vents won't open without a direct EPS link to either the bridge or engineering, both are blocked by the current outage.

God, heatwaves are bad for my IQ.

All joking aside, any bright idea's on fixing it?

Speed is goddamn low. It takes literally minutes to load a page. After five minutes' waiting, I am now powerful enough to post this complaint:

THIS ****ING SUCKS. When is the maintenance going to end - or better yet, has it ended and I've been left ashore? :(

I swear revenge and postnuclear apocalypse to Gamespy if this does not end.

Still down and slow for me. This has now lasted over 24 hours.

BEST MAINTENANCE EVER!

Edit: still down, page loading 2+ minutes. Seeing as this continues, I think I'll leave HLP at least for a while. It's really ****ing irritating trying to browse the forums, and the main page does not work either. What really pisses me off is that just when many projects I anticipated so much were closer to completion and SCP was getting a lot of new fine improvements (Turambar, LS, DaBrain and many others), the retarded little wombat ****s who rape their mothers all night long at Gamespy somehow manage to **** up the entire system, leaving apparently quite a few users on the shore. I try to drop by now and then, but as it takes over 10 minutes to post a reply... :sigh:

However, seeing as the FS2 SCP main site sucks cocks and all community activity is resided in here, I would approve if someone would drop a post at VWBB (dead) or my email as must releases (Inferno R2/RR1, new Media VP + addons, stable builds etc), so I can pick them up.

I'm bumping this one cause I've been chatting with CannonFodder and he's been saying that since GS did their maintenence he can't post on HLP and reading anything moves very slowly

Apparently though the Wiki works for him (Which I have no idea how to explain since they seem to be on the same server)

I still have no problems whatsoever. What type of connection is CF running? Tell him to keep trying, and maybe check other GS sites while he's at it to see if they're behaving the same. :)

He's on Broadband. He told me 3DActionPlanet was also slow.

Apparently Havock is having similar problems (He mentioned this over on SpaceBattles) which makes me wonder how many other people are unable to connect.

Try the Wiki. CF said that oddly enough that worked well.

I'm starting to get a sneaking suspicion that it's the ads that are causing the problem. The wiki doesn't have any so......

erm, oddly enough, when using a proxy, the whole thing turns useable.
I am currently using this one: 212.21.228.22:8080 ; and HLP is browseable.  Without the proxy, I can't even connect to HLP.

Phew, finally got this sloved. Big thanks to kara :)

The problem was with the adverts, I got rid of them by editing the hosts file at:

Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
Windows NT/2000/XP Pro  c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Windows XP Home c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open the file with notepad and add a line to the end:

127.0.0.1        ads.gamespy.com

Save the file, and everything should work. Again, thank karajorma for solving this :)

The way that CF's problems went away the second he stopped his browser from looking at GS's ads server suggests that they've cocked up something there.

Looks like the browser is waiting for something from the GS site and hangs until it gets it.
