I'll let someone else massacre you for the lens flare.

And I'm not much of a fan of any of PS's standard plugins.

Infinitely better that way IM(H?)O :p

I've always had trouble getting good renders out of the Ravana, doesn't exactly have the most beautiful geometry :p

A Quick smooth quad divide over the Ravanna would be a good idea here methinks.

The Ravana is a little blurry, no? Try to sharpen it up...and maybe brighten it up a little too.

Lens-flare = t3h 3v1l

i should really post a tutorial on how to make good use out of a lens flares to make a decent "star" effect.

Or use Axcion which generates great custom made flares - instant stars!

(just add water..)

Any sort of 3D rendering program such as Lightwave or 3DSMAX works well too. Just render it on a black background.

Ya, but I don't have a good modeling program like that

@Turnsky - Yes you should :D

Nice. It needs something more though. Most people always go for 'flat' backgrounds, try experimenting with physical objects, so rather than drawing the star in PS, render it with the Ravanna, with planets around it, maybe even an eclipse by another planet/moon etc. It is after all the little things, that make things perfect. :)

But yeh, nice work, I look forward to seeing some of your future works. :)

You know, lots of people say that, but I'm not sure I agree. I mean, sure, we don't think it looks very good, but I think it's an important step in the progress of an artist to play around with these rudimentary techniques, upon which every different artist builds their own style. Who knows, someone may come up with a really killer way of using that lens flare one day. But all this... it feels the same as whenever people say to someone "you know, that model sucks... it just isn't designed very well. It serves no purpose, don't do anything with that..." But my really dodgy pieces of work were vital to my progress as an artist. I needed to put out bad work before I could put out anything good. It was a great use to me, I didn't need people to tell me it looked horrible - my own sense of art naturally progressed. :)

Hmm, well, there are my thoughts. Interesting render jd, I can feel the story behind it... :nod:
