Just saw it. Not amazingly outstanding, but quite enjoyable. Brad Pitt has some sweet "step aside, Neo" moves if you can catch them. ;)
Thoughts? Is it even out yet anyplace else?
-
I don't like the portrayal. They've Hollywoodized a story that Homer already stretched to the limits of credibility. The Greeks don't have beards, which is a big error. Men ALWAYS wore beards in ancient Greece as it was considered feminine and undignified not to.
-
It's been out here for awhile. I havent' seen it yet though. (:doubt: ) but I hear it's not all that accurate to the tale at all. (I.E. no godly influence in the plot at all.)
-
I never read the story outside of history or literature books, so aside from the very basic "Trojan horse" tactic, I knew absolutely nothing about anything.
-
I read the stories of Trow in a lot of books, but I never ever make it to the movies to see big hits or the latest releases due to the fact that I have no one to take me. Being born in 89 means i cant get my license till im 18...
-
What where do you live?? I was born in 89
-
 That sucks for you.
-
That's not the law in Oklahoma, or is it?? Because I have friends taht drive and are 16
Oh, and just so I don't kil the thread, haven't sen it yet and I don't think it's based on the Odyssey, it's based on the actual historical event... Even though they still got stuff wrong:D
-
it would be based on the Iliad actually, not the Odyssey
-
another thing they decided to cut out was that the Greeks were generally bisexual. They liked their girls, but they liked their boys too.

IIRC, Paris was feminine and undignified, lol
how funny, shot by legolas.
I say they should have gotten people who looked more greek to be in the movie, like say Antonio Bandares as Achilles.
As for te beards, well, i guess they didn't want everyone looking like arabs or something
and i love the whole thing with Boromir as Odysseus. They should make The Odyssey with Sean Bean and cool special effects (all the other versions suck IMHO) and a better soundtrack (i mean, some vocal is enough, but they didn't know when to stop!
Edit: I may be half arab, but the other half of me is Greek!

Yes, not tryng to kill the thread or anything :nervous: ... I think its up for a vote on july 1st (it is in Massachusetts at least) that you have to be 18 to get your liscence, or have your permit at the time of the cuttoff, which means i beat the cutoff in any case by 8 months... don't know if its national though...

Driving laws aren't under federal jurisdiction. So no, it would only be in your state
-
Actually, you can drive in any state in the US for up to 30days if you have a valid driver's license in your home state.
-
Troy kicks ass.
-
anyone who says something like "it sucked. the greek didn't have beards" is a complete idiot, sorry to say. the movie was amazing, definately one of the best 3 i've seen all year, and probably will be in the top 3 the whole year. flawless movie. i loved it.
-
Well, aside from some well-done battle sequences, it sucked. The music was horrible, ripped off at least 5 movies, among them THE MAIN THEME of Lawrence of Arabia and Stargate, the characters were with two exceptions (Achilleus and Hector) cardboard cutouts, with Achiellus being so horribly miscast that it was painful. Peter O'Toole and Eric Bana made their characters the most interesting of the film. But no Lord of the Rings it ain't. Heck, it ain't even gladiator.
And, it shortened a 10 year war into a 10 day war. Jeez

James Horner is infamous for that (though it's usually himself he rips off of).
-
I didn't really like it. It was too much Achilles glorification. And he had no girlfriend. Most of the Greeks at that time were bi. He wasn't bi. He was a flaming homosexual with the guy they made his "cousin". And the Iliad wasn't Achilles's story. It was Oedipus's, just as much as the Odyssey was.
-
Well, I'll make up my mind when I see it next Saturday. :)
-
I liked Troy very much it's was really good movie

I must say, it was certainly a first for him from what I've seen - he actually lived thru the end of the movie (consider Patriot Games, Equilibrium, and LOTR)!

Odysseus, you mean.
-
yeah. sorry. Oedipus was the guy who had kids with his mom. I think he lives in Alabama now.
-
Read the original - I did it with Odysseus. I guess I'm gona read the Ilyas too.
-
Seeing it with mi mujer tomorrow, heard something about Paris surviving, in which case I want my money back already...
-
well you know... when you go see a film based on fiction....................................
-
Canoness aside, it was an okay movie. Good for the action, more or less. The one on one sword fights were pretty cool, but otherwise, it seems like the major fighting was pretty standard.
Like I said though, some parts of the story were just too :wtf:

Nope. I heard he moved to Mississippi. The last time I heard he shot a repo man who was sent to repossess his guns, as he put them as collateral for his house.
"Don't let 'em take daddy's guns."
But anyway, Troy sucked. I rather watch the rerun of the 1988 Rose Bowl between the USC Trojans and the Michigan State Spartans (or vice-versa) on ESPN. Plus, Paris (played to Orlando Bloom) should have died, as he did in the Illiad, in the hands of Achilles. Come on, he was the instigator of the whole affair. I guess he was too - "sexy" to die.
Cheers,
Rampage

Sexy..? He was a big pussy.

Note the quotes. I went to see it with my friend and his girlfriend, who has a "thing" for Orlando Bloom. It was one of the things I said to her after the movie ended. Hehe.
-
None of the girls I saw it with liked the movie much at all.
-
it was pretty badass when orlando bloom's at his brother's feet, and his brother stands up for him and kills that big guy.
:d
-
Some of the dialogue was so unintentionally funny the whole audience chuckled (which is quite a rarity in British cinemas). When Paris picked up the bow you could almost see Orlando Bloom's face going 'whoa, where have I done *this* before' - still, overall it was worth seeing.
Doesn't come anywhere near Gladiator though; that's still the best 'epic' film there's been in the last decade
-
Sadistic - Amen!
i reckon the movie would have been so much better if Russel Crowe had played instead of Brad pitt....he rocked so hard in gladiator

No! Antonio Bandares! Zorro, The 13th Warrior! If he can be Spanish and Arab. he can be Greek too! Trust me on that, I'm half arab, half greek, and when i get a tan, people mistake me for spanish all the time!
-
The Greeks at the time were more pale thanks to an invasion by pale chaps (or somesuch)
-
And Agamemnon looked like Mel Brooks:p

Funny, I thought that was the worst part of the movie.

one of the cheesiest, for sure, but don't you think it was tight that his brother, in like 2 seconds, puts that fat guy on the ground? i thought it was.
-
The sun rises from the west.
There are lamas and alpacas in the Troy. WTF new geography mate!
Achilles is a nice guy with a girlfriend.
Menelaos gets killed in the very beginning.
Agamemnon gets killed.
Patrokleus is Achilles' young cousin, not his old gay lover. WHERE BE ALL DA HOMOS AT?!
Dialogue is cheesy, to say at least.
Soundtrack: "AAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEEEE IIIIIIIIII OOOOOOOOO AAAAAAA", damn them for skipping the the old score. Which can be found here (http://www.gabrielyared.com/flashsite/index2.htm), at the "News -> Score for Troy" part.
The entire original story was raped.
And still the movie was OK and entertaining, if you don't care about "historical" accuracy or original stories and prefer hot women over ... umm. Hot men? So I rated it OK.
-
the part where they showed Brad Pitt's ass just killed it for me. Definitely a scen for the females. Too bad the guys didn't get any reciprocal treatment in that matter.
-
The Hector-Achilles fight scene was the shiznit though. Best fight coreography ive ever seen. They should hire that guy for Star Wars 3.

well they did show that woman's boobs a few times. that should've made up for it
-
Observe: in my right hand I hold a ten-foot barge pole. See how I deliberately fail to touch Troy with said pole
-
Brad Pitt and Eric Bana both did all their fight scenes in this movie. I don't think Lucas has another 12 million lying around to hire them. they should bring Darth Maul back, he was such a bad ass

makes more sense than what the movie actually did. Couldn't they have just staged her death, cut off most of her hair so no one could recognize her, THEN ran away?

Except that Paris is the biggest pussy in the world and should have died.
