Well looks like interplay is getting desperate and saw in this article that they are looking at reviving descent.
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/31464
Interplay, desperate for something that sells, today announced that a Kingpin sequel is in development according to this HomeLAN Fed story. You can find some screenshots from the 5 year old orginal game here and on FileShack we still have the demo. While it was mentioned that Kingpin 2 will be released on PC and Xbox, a developer or release date was not revealed. The company is also looking to revive the Descent & Earthworm Jim franchises.
-
I doubt they'd do an FS3 though. FS2 didn't sell that well and Interplay are too stupid to realise that it was their own fault .
-
But they threw new copies on the market.
Perhaps to see how good space-sims would sell in these days.
-
No, no no NO NO!!!
It won't happen!
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!
*mmmmm.... caffiene good...*
-
Ok...let me make this really easy for you to understand...
THERE WILL NOT BE AN FS3!!!!!!!
-
Okay, since no one's done it yet:

Have fun, folks.

i must say, that's getting circulated well. :p

Timeless accuracy. Who needs anything else? :)

:welcome:
to the HLP boards.
you people
he's a newbie and doesn't know anything, no need to scare him off
-
Yeah. Welcome ehkz. You may find people are a bit touchy on the subject of FS3, only because it been brought up so many times. But it all in good fun. We don't flame our newbies here....
...we feed them to Carl.
-
I was fairly certain this one was gone over in a couple of places for people who join. I'd missed the post count, too.
Besides, it gets the point across. And the topic is one that's discouraged. This is called shock treatment. Also, none of us are being rude, beyond the comic, which is, in my opinion, pretty funny.
ehkz, a word of advice: Go to the HLP page, go to FSDoc on the left-hand side, and read through the entry on FS3 on the page that comes up. It's important, and will explain the comic a bit better, and why people reacted so vehemently to an innocent question. Also, look through the other stuff there, it might have something interesting to you, or you could contribute (FSDoc is a community project).
And welcome to the boards! We usually aren't this blunt. Well, some of us aren't. FS3 is a topic that's strongly discouraged, but you didn't know that, so don't worry about it. You want to see hostility, go read some of the language under Hard Light. Some of that stuff is ugly (politics and the like). This is just humor, and a mild caution on the subject.

Shouldn't someone warn him about Carl, our ductwork-crawling Shivan who eats lunches?

From my FAQ
The subject of FS3 gets discussed all the time and most people have got a little bit sick of it. Rather than continually poke at the large wound that is FS3 we prefer to ignore it's existence. Although stranger things have happened it is far simpler to pretend that there will never be a FS3 than it is to cling to the faint hope that there will be.
For these reasons posting questions about FS3 tends to get you insulted. It's like repeatedly reminding someone about the loss of a loved one, tactless and pointless at the same time. If you post something new we'd all be pleased to hear it but you have to remember that FS2 is over 3 years old so almost everything has already been discussed several times.
That's pretty much why everyone has been so harsh. We're generally much nicer :)
-
Besides....
With all those nice and beatiful campaigns out there... who needs FS3 anyway :) Plus, writing a plot for it would be a writing nightmare... you would HAVE to be consistent with all the Fan material that has been produced... Not an easy task if you ask me.

You wouldn't have to be consistant. You'd just look like an idiot if Inferno or MindGames or any other project had a better plotline and/or missions :D

welcome to HLP!
exits are to the sides and rear, personal flamethrowers and shotguns are located under the seats, if you're crawling around in the ductwork and spot a shivan it's just Carl, give him your lunch and hope he's in a good mood. In the event of a serious conflict there are plasma rifles in the lockers up front. However, these can only be opened by [V], God, an admin, or a hyperintelligent shade of the color blue. *takes a breath* Do not try to enter the control room as it is guarded by subspatial claymore mines. Thank you and enjoy your stay.

the only way there could be a sequel is if FS3 actually is made. then Turnsky could make one about FS4.

i'd bring the doomvac out of retirement for the next one.;)
-
Who needs FS3 anyway. Anything they make will porbably still suck in comparison to the SCP and mods that use it (*cough* Inferno *cough*)
-
Idiot on the ground : Tis just a scratch !!
*Sound of beam preparing to fire*
Idiot on the ground : Hu-ho....

Sound of Shivans as it suddenly gets dark...
Idiot on Ground: "Sh1vans! SW33T!"
SJ Satahans rolls in...
Idiot on Ground: "I'm about to get blasted! SW33T!"
Guy with Gun: "Fire when ready."
BZZZZZZZZZTTTT!
Guy with Gun: "There won't be an FS3 becuase they said so, got it?"

i believe an0n modified the FS3 comic a bit. I wouldn't know where to find it.

Don't think so - Broodwar unbalanced the game even more than it already was.
-
What do you mean? Zerg in the original were much more powerful than the Terran and Protoss. Now the Terrans have only a slight advantage. :p
-
I disagree.
-
Depends on the player. But for AI:
Unless it's a rush, Protoss slaughter Zerg.
Protoss slaughter Terran.
Terran Slaughter Zerg.
Usually, atleast, that is what I've witnessed. It's usually left between Terran and Protoss at the end of an 8 player FFA.
-
Everyone tries to rush at the very beginning of the game, if they play Zerg.
And since they always lose the first rush they're pretty much doomed.
-
It'd suck if FS3 came out within the next two years. It's kill the SCP community.
...And you mean Zerg < Teran < Protoss?
-
Well for all of u guys who decided to flame me even trying to do it inadvertintaly...I do feel my thread was relavent. The link to the story had a relavant referance to the topic. There is a reason i put a big "?" after freespace 3. Who knows maybe Interplay re-releasing freespace2 and this news comment from a very repuutable game site could be just a coincidence or maybe something is really going on. Maybe interplay finally did a marketing audit for freespace 2 or just used common sense(U cant teach a person common sense) and realized that they could make money continuing it. So why not try? I would if i was head of that company...well if i took it over now, wouldent make all there bonehead decisions they have made thusfar, hell if i saw what fanbase is still out for this game and how much it is still selling for i would just use common sense and make peace/alliances/whatever with what i would need to make pt3. Maybe the whole descent reference to the topic could be for a descent4(in reference to a ground base shooter) or whatever, that is why i put a question mark at the end of my post topic. I am not going to post in this topic anymore except for the day that a freespace 3 release is announced, wheather it be by interplay, volition, trition dynamics, ehkz.inc, or whatever with all the rights i will just do a huge "LOL" at all of u. And possibly a "eat my shivan shorts"
Dare to dream
Forgot to include i was drunk while doing this response so pls forgive any spelling mistakes:P\\
"Remember that time at the freespace terran-vasudan picnic when i hit that home run and you guys didint think i would catch it too but i did?"
-
1. Spelling and clarity.
2. It's not that your post wasn't relevant, but as karajorma's FAQ says: "Most people of FS community are sick of FS3 talk". Because honestly, we get more than our fair share of it, and nothing ever comes out of it. The news you referred to have already been mentioned before (though I believe you didn't know it). There is always faint hope for FS3, but during the last couple of years or signs of FS3 have been found baseless.
But I admit the HLP's hatred for FS3-related questions is sometimes pretty foolish.
-
You know...
Fact1: they're might be one, some day. Why? Coz nothing prevents it, it's that simple :p
Fact2: if they announced FS3 tomorrow, I wouldn't actually wet my pants or anything. I probably just wouldn't care. Or it'd have to be a darn good game, coz it being FS wouldn't do anything to me ( I consider the FS universe somehow... lacking, if you get what I mean ).
On the other hand, rather than whimpering about them not having the FS license anymore, Volition could just have made another space sim, with a brand new franchise. But no, they prefer to do Britney Spear games, so I'm fine with that too.
-
In my opinion, Inferno is FS3.
-
um...Can anyone get onto the Interplay website?
I can't...says it's not there and the interplay-store is "unable to complete transactions at this time."
...wtf mate?!
-
I would, to be honest, be dissapointed if they announced FS3, it's far more fun NOT knowing what happened next ;) And since the story would either be just like an already ongoing Mod, or will be so different as to make the other Mods obsolete, it is unlikely to be well recieved by the majority of the community ;)
-
I would be seriously scared if FS3 was announced one day.
And especially if it wasn't made by V..
Anyone else would probably **** things up royally, and then we'd all be scarred for life, and have a **** game which ruined the rest of it for us.
A little bit pessimistic, but hey...it's not coming out anyway, so it doesn't matter :p
-
what?
coolcoolcool!!!`1!!@!@oneone
FS3, when it it out?
j00 know?
1337!
-
Even :V: would mess things up.
Considering the "leap" into the abyss when you compare FS2 to FS1 I must say the team must have been under very poor management or some key personal were lost on the way.
Don't take me wrong : FS2 is technologically superior, but considering that they could have made a lot more out of it.
Of course it could pretty much be Intergay's fault.
-
It would be hard for whatever was produced to not be a let down. We've all had years of wanting it and thinking up cool stuff to do in the mean time... not to mention so many theories and so on. Living up to that kind of expectation is - while not impossible - tricky.
-

Hell, if they had actually advertised it a bit, we might be piling into download sites to get the FS4 demo.:D

That's pretty much what I was on about. The advertising for FS2 was virtually non-existant.
-
I'm lucky I found it, it was m grandpa that first showed me it
-
good one, that's priceless!
I'm keeping a copy or two mint for "future generations"...
Someone please put them in a time capsule.
200 years later Acheologists open it up.
"Look students, a copy of 1997's space sim game of the year!"
"professor is it TRUE they had to use magnetic disks to install these games on instead of photo cells? and they used a 'joystick' to operate thier simulated craft instead of a neural link?"
PS9 live in your world, play in ours...
-
If you want something to be forgotten and never again found you put it into a time capsule.
It's the most uncommon places where people find old stuff...
