It's me again, if any of you remember. ^^; After leaving for a looong time (and attempting to return/find the interest to return several times after) I'm back. Yeah.. for those who remember, I'm the little kid that hung around and commented on mods and stuff.. I never really contributed anything to the community, just sorta sat here and gawked at all the renders you guys put out. I can't believe you left my username intact, I would think I would need to register all over.. thanks much. :D I see a lot of familiar faces.. and even more new ones. Lesse.. among those I recognize.. Kazan, an0n (haha I remember when you banned him for hacking and some such nonsense, seems he's a goodguy now XD), Styxx (I was obsessed with Machina Terra, I swear I visited the site at least 5 times daily for updates), Unknown Target looks familiar as well.. as does Grey Wolf 2009. And Sandwich! How could I forget him.. he's still here too! :lol: And Carl the Shivan over there! XD Holy crap, Setekh too! Stealth.. Bobboau.. Christ, it's just like old times, at the moment I'm re-installing FS2 and trying to find the directory where I put all the old mods I had installed. Heehee.. good old memories. Mwahah, I have this old image on my hard drive somewhere I know you guys'll just love..

Yeah.. the last time I checked in you guys had just gotten the source code, but hadn't really started any serious progress on it, I'm sure you've done some utterly outrageous things, I'm glad I returned. After being obsessed with FS and FS2 for a couple years it just got.. dull. But I'm all for playing it again. ;)

Edit: Holy poop an0n. Glowy lights. Can you do animations now? I remember you could put animated maps on the models before we got the source, but they'd only work in the model viewers, not ingame.

They've done all kinds of ****. Too much to even begin to list.
And as soon as they finish 3.6, it will, in theory, all be stable.

Ugh, I'm so excited. I need to hurry up and get FS2 installed.. I don't even know if it'll run on this old thing anymore. My brother is whoring the 3ghz in the living room.. this old P3 needs an upgrade badly.

P3? I run a P3 800Mhz with a Radeon 7000 (stop laughing, it's all my mobo can run) and 192MB RAM. FSO runs pretty much perfectly, aside from a driver issue killing the shine. You should see the damage decals and environment mapping, though. Those are still in a test stage, but boy, they are nice. [scp][/scp]

If it runs on my Duron 600, it'll run on whatever you got.

Pentium 3, 450 mhz. 448 megs of RAM. Windows XP Home. x_x; Yet it manages to run aim, winamp, mcaffee, mirc, firefox, ie, psp7, and various p2p clients all at the same time..
Edit: Excellent.. you've made installing mods easier.. I remember how tedious it was. Do you still have to keep that ship attribute file under a certain number of kilobytes?

The RAM is going to save you a ****load of troubles, but what is your GFX card? If it is anything like a Radeon 7000 or upwards, you'll probably fine, if it is more like a TNT2, you might have some issues, like not being able to look at a capship without crashing, and details like that.

Actually, my comp (the one I'm on now) ran FS2 fairly well, and it actually had one of the original TNT cards. After a while I installed a GeForce 2 Ti, but soon realized that with all the new games coming out I needed to spend more money on a processor and motherboard rather than new graphics cards. On my 3 ghz machine I've got a GeForce FX 5200, it can run anything. That's the machine I plan on installing Half-Life 2 onto. ;7

The problem with being gone so long is being utterly confused. I barely remember how to install ship models anymore.. something about putting the model, texture, and attribute info into a file I could edit in notepad or some such text editor.. I remember that other FS site had a ton of newbie tutorials on all this.. but I forgot the name/location. You know.. the big one.. with the Volition games. Blah. >.>;

models in the Freespace2/data/models folder, textures in the Freespace2/data/maps folder, and table entries in the ship.tbl, weapon.tbl in the Freespace2/data/tables folder :)

Ah, that's right, thanks alot. ^^ Yeah, I found my old FS2 folder, it's got all the old models and textures and tables I downloaded, Uni is happy. XD

Nooo idea.. I'm running it on my 3 ghz right now, with FS2 Open installed. With all features on I'm getting 60 fps, it slows down to 55 at times. I'll try installing on the 450 mhz tommorrow.

not to turn this into a SCP thread, but with almost identical specs (geforce mx instead of ti) and w2k caps my framerate before i hit the limit...

yes, no ammo though... there's plasme rifles in the forward lockers, but they can only be opened by [V], an admin, god, or a hyper-intelligent shade of the color blue...

Agreed, dude. The FS modding scene hasn't been this active since... well, I can't remember when, honestly. It's crazy. :nervous: :) Heh, and yeah, we all have Styxx to thank for that. It's a great system, looks sweet, runs even better. Glad you enjoy it. :yes:
