Because it's summer. I have no social life, and I wanna hone my skills on humans players... What's going on with multi?

As I posted here (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,21295.msg474402.html#msg474402), standard PXO for retail FS2 is down since 22th May 2004. I'm very sad about it :( and I haven't place to meet some ppl and play online. FS2NetD server may have very popular if it will be UP. I'm waiting for it!

It would be a good opportunity to get many old and new vanilla FS2multi players to test SCP multi. So it would be a good idea to put scp multi server up while pxo is down.

whoot. Now I just have to figure out why FS2 crashes when I try running it without a MOD selected (think it's a missing file).
Once multi is up i'm gonna go for a little recruiting spree, i daresay ;)

Just asking because I don't have positivce experience about PXO. There were too many LAGs even with 3-4 players.
Face-to-face dogfight was good, by the way. I always won(those two matches I played). :)
One of them was a German guy, who taught me that 'gehen' means 'to go'. I beated him 10 to 3.
The another one was a squadron leader(who is also an HLP member). I beated him 11 to 7, I think. But I was humilitated in a 4-4 team dogfight. I do not only blame my net connection, I don't know if my team could have won, but I am pretty sure I could have performed much better.

There was no open sourcing of the old PXO iirc, it was removed together with the MVE player stuff?

Originally, yes, but some guy from Outrage, or something, came out with the source a few months ago IIRC. MVE is still gaurded like Fort Knoxx though.

I know, DivX is better, I have an unsupported suspicion they are a bit like compressed ANI files, but with a 16-bit palette instead of the 8-Bit one in standard ANI files.

The ironic thing is, MVEs *ARE* 8-bit.

I downloaded 3.6 and compiled it. When I goto multi it seems to be working fine (besides no servers). But if I try and create my own game I see a quick loading screen and I'm back to the desktop. Any suggestions? Or am I doing something wrong?
Edit: I've also tried the exe that was linked in my thread about finding the 3.6 code and get the same problem.

3.6 is availble (?) Where I can download it?
I use 5-22-04 Bob Decal build, when I click on multi it says that connection with FS2NetD server is lost :(. Is there any better build for multi, masterserver is not up or am I do something wrong? It's not working even with "test" login and password o.O

He built it out of CVS it sounds like.
There will be a release thread soon though.
As for it not working, not sure why, will have to test it.

Did you set up the build properly so it tries to reach Inq's server and not Kazans temporary testing server (which is down)?

I would assume that I did not.

youll have to edit the multiplayer .cfg files to point to whatever server Inq put up. That is if
a) the server is already up
b) you know the addy and ports

theres this game, Allegiance (www.alleg.net) that has an amazing team-based multiplayer game. Each team has a commander and fighters. You have to scout for recources, fight your enemies and manage construction. THe commander orders the troops in a RTS kinda way, but its people who fly the ships. The areas are conencted by "nodes" and such. You also do research for better stuff. I played allegiance for a while, but it is butt-ugly, so i came to FreeSpace.
I looked into NodeWars but it doesnt seem the same...

Nodewars is a story discussion, just writing about battles.
An FPS version of what you mentioned is Natural Selection, a HL1 mod.
FSCZ is doing something long term with resources, but nothing direct in-game, since that would count as major recoding.

My build and the build I got from here both crash to the desktop when even trying to do peer to peer. After setting the game details and pressing accept (to goto the mission selection) the game says loading then goes to the desktop.

Oh no, Multiplayer LAN is screwed AGAIN!
Search Mantis, there's an old bug report from me stating the same problem. It was supposedly fixed back then (never got around to test it though), but as it seems it is still there/ it is back.

Ok, now it seems to be working. My build and the other build make it to the mission selection now. Not sure if we can fly missions yet but it seems to be working now. Is the fs2_open server or something up now?
It was not working for the Imperial Alliance modified game until I copy pasted all the *.cfg files from the clean install.
