Right, if I go to see this film (as I'd like to), I want some uberly cool visuals with NY snowed under and ****. I'm not expecting a deep plot, believable characters or anything fancy like that. I just want some cool post-apocalyptic **** to look at.
Therefore, is this film for me?
-
Just saw the trailer, looks very cool... But, I can't se a story coming out of this
Kind of like the end of Matrix: Reloaded
-
This movie says its only released on the 28th of May??? Am i wrong?

Pure spectacle, no plot, no actual value to speak of....
I'm so there.
-
Looks cool. Probably gonna go see it.
-
Please tell me they give credit to Art Bell and his co-author.

Nothing like a good natural disaster flick to brighten one's day, especially after some of the ones we've been forced to suffer through on TV:
Asteroid
Volcano
10.5
Speaking of disaster films, anyone have a favorite?
My nomination is for "Threads", England's answer to America's horribly watered-down "The Day After".
-
My favourite is easily Twister. Not only does it have some pretty good special effects (the tornados do look like tornados for the most part) but there's also quite a nice little rythem to the film. I won't claim there's much of a plot but it's a good laugh with some nice music and some cool action.
I've high hopes for Day After Tomorrow, mainly because I'm a sucker for special FX and that looks to be what this film is really all about. Great.

besides, you can never go wrong with Bill "Game Over, Man, Game Over!" Paxton :)
get him in a movie with Bruce Campbell and I'm set for life.

Looks supercool. I'm so there when it comes out.
-
it doesn't look like it has too much of a plot, but who cares, the special effects look amazing :) :D

 Gotta say I agree with you there.
-
Never heard of it :p
As for my favourite disaster movie? Probably Dante's Peak, I can't explain why, it's reather cheesy actually, but I always liked it.
-
I was going to see this movie with a few mates today, but I've fallen pretty ill. *cough* *splutter* :(
-
The Towering Inferno - classic :p
-
Well, now that I've seen it.
The plot was a recycled combination of Godzilla, Armageddon and Independence Day (complete with the loud-mouth nigger, running between the yellow cabs in NY). The character was wafer-thin, and the science was beyond hilarious.
And the SFX were hella cool.
:yes::yes::yes:

Meteor with Sean Connery. That's my favorite.

Maybe the science isn't as ridiculous as you think... (http://www.popsci.com/popsci/science/article/0,12543,638224,00.html)

Just got back from the theatre. Overall a good disaster movie.
Would've been a great disaster movie except for 2 things:
1. It's a little over the top, even given the genre.
2. It's too preachy at the end, while I will admit that Man is able to affect local climates(400 mile diameter's max), the Global Climate is entirely too large and anybody who has other intentions has an over-inflated idea of Man's capabilities.

i went to the movie theater today at 2:30. the 2:50 show was sold out, and 5 minutes later the 3:35 show was sold out too... so i ended up going home. since tomorrow i graduate, i intend seeing it on sunday.
looks pretty good though ;)
oh, and hope you feel better soon Setekh ;) :D

The science in this movie is... questionable. Yes it's built on some solid principles. But it ignores certain other principles, just as the alarmists that the guy chose to interview do. Keep in mind that Humans produce less than one seventh of the Earths atmospheric carbon dioxide (the main greenhouse gas that people are afraid of) and that the overwhelming majority is produced by Volcanoes. Keep in mind that we're in an upward temperature gradient that has been going since the dark ages, not one that has been going on since the industrial revolution. Keep in mind that for the last several hundred thousand years, the earths climate has been zigzagging, up, down, up, down. Keep in mind that, in the geological history of the earth, polar icecaps are a uncommon and unusual phenonenon. Yes, ocean currents play a huge role in the Global climate, and yes melting of the icecaps could screw with them. No we aren't looking at a catastrophic climate change that will take place over such a short length of time.
And anyway, if it happens, Australia, being the most stable and possibly most powerful western country in the southern hemisphere, will be in a pretty much ideal position to begin its world conquest... Whee!

Ill beleive the quoted science resources before ill beleive anyone on this forum.
This movie is an exaggeration of what would really happen, nevertheless the message should be strongly heeded.

And yet I just quoted a scientific resource. I'll post the link again.

What message?
You mean the part about the Global Superstorm that's threatening mankind or the really weak-kneed ecowacko ****e at the end?
-
Other than all the "deep" thoughts that one may have on this whole global warming subject, I did like this movie. It was entertaing and ,in the end, thats all a summer flick really needs to be. I could've watched a bit more of L.A. getting decimated though.....as that never gets old.:D
