Hey all, got a bit of a problem - just installed 3.6 along with all the old files I've been using but I still can't get glow mapping to work. What do I mean? Well my Sathanas looks like this where there should be glows.
Any thoughts on fixing this one?

I don't see shines. Is the sun on the other side of the Sath?

Yeah, that was deliberate to show off the lack of glows. Shine mapping still seems to be working.

just outta curiousity, what vidcard do you have?
*feels that the problem might be linked somehow with his shinemap woes*

What do you mean by "old files"?
shouldn't you be using the latest vps?

That's what I mean - but they're the ones I backed up on my computer before formatting (which is what bought about these problems with getting it to work now)... they should work and used to work.
My graphics card is a Radeon 9800 Pro running the build on DX8. I also think I'm running Cat 4.4 (NOT 4.5) but can't remember how to tell.

Try the Device Manager or the sysinfo program. The latter should work better.

Will do, but I'm at work now - any idea what the problem might be if it's not the drivers? Also - obviously I need some files in the right place, what files enable glow mapping and where should they be? (this all seems elementary... but evidently something isnt right).

This might be dumb, but it's sort of like checking if things are plugged in...
You are using launcher v5 with a newer build (jan/feb to 3.6+), or launcher v4 with an older build (3.5.5 to jan/feb)? And with the command line options enabled, and no mods selected?
They should be in data/maps, or moddata/data/maps if you're using a mod.

I'm using Launcher 5 and Build 3.6 (as found in the first post of the sticky thread in at the top of the SCP forum). SCP features are set to "all on" in the launcher, and as far as I can remember (while away from the computer) the maps are in the data/maps folder.
However.
What maps should be in there? Can I check I have the right ones? (again this sounds like common sence but I might as well do things right). So what pack should I have downloaded to get glow maps on ships?

mv_textures.
For the Sathans, the files are supertile1* through supertile5*, glowmaps will have the -glow suffix. You should see a glow somewhere if you have at least one of those, depending on the LOD.

Ah, yes. And the problem is solved. Turns out that the packs I had installed that I thought had the glow maps included... didn't. I was missing the maps and so I had no glows - would've spotted it if I didn't have work.. meh.
Thanks to all for helping. I might field test the latest Cat drivers later to see if they make/break it all.

No! 4.5 and 4.6 break it all! Stay at 4.4!

I couldn't be more sure. With my 9800XT both the 4.5 and 4.6 drivers screwed my shines. Advise that you don't use either.

I'm sticking with 4.4 They work jusy fine, and I doubt I'll need anything that 4.5 or 4.6 would change/add. It's not broke, why fix it?

Fair enough, not like the 4.4s don't work well.
