I'm bored with explorer. Sure it works and all that but I want to try something new and exciting... preferably with an already strong community for skins and so forth.
Does anyone have any recommendations, or should I be shot for wishing to stray from Mr.Gates' dreams?

BURN THE INFIDEL!

you mean like... Longhorn?

[color=66ff00]No he means explorer or liteshell or whatever you call it.
TBH I've just stuck with explorer, I've tried a bunch of other shells in the past and the setup was generally so inflexable I went back to explorer. The only exception was when I was running 98SE I used an ultra light shell made for games, it simply allowed you to choose a game from a list so explorer.exe and all it's dependancies were never loaded. Was good for cramming every last bit of performance out of my old 300K6.
I'd love to see a KDE style shell for windows; more options than a pricey BMW.

Meh, I can probably crack whatever I need - but I've taken a look at the likes of Aston and I might have tried Lightstep as well... not really gotten into much depth before losing heart in it though.

Meag: where did you get that?

Yeah, thanks.

Umm.... I just use Explorer with an alternate file browser. Sometimes, if I'm bored, I'll use a dll hack and use alternate skins.

Aston is good, some of the skins are kind of buggy.
Litestep is good also, but a lot of the skins are conversions from Linux and don't quite make the shift like they should. Some of them make the computer crash outright and it becomes a pain to rollback to something that works with 8 character names in DOS.

Aston is my personal fav. True, some skins are a bit buggy, but with a little adaptation they are fine. And its cheap if you plan on paying.
