Hello,
has anyone else encountered a massive FPS-Drop, when
you have a ship spreading out particles after a hit ?
I encountered while testing a new mission. One single fighter
had some heavier hulldamage and spread out particles from two
points, and my FPS drops from 70 to 10 (!) if he was visible. That
wasn't so funny at all.
I'm not using the media-vp, just the standard data and FS-Open 3.6.
System-Specs :
P 2,0 GHz, 512 MB RAM, GF4 TI 4200, WIN98 SE,
Launcher 5.0, 1024x768x32, AA x2 and these flags :
D:\freespace2\fs2_open_3_6.exe -glow -jpgtga -ship_choice_3d -fps -ambient_factor 100
Could it be a bug, or rather my system ?

I used to have your exact system and let me tell ya, it sucked.
-
What if you disable AA?
-
AA May be the problem, I thought it might an older decal effect build, but looking at your command line it's not :(
-
try this build (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,24047.0.html) see if it helps
-
Not really better.
This build makes the game-performance overall reduced for
at least 25 % in FPS, (and it has some strange additional bugs too),
but the particel-problem is still there.
However, viewing the particel-sprewing ships now only drops
to 20 FPS instead of 10 in the new build, but still... :(
-
I'm lucky to get 20 fps without anything really going on.
Count your blessings, it could be a lot worse. Try dogfighting when it's randomly dropping down to 7 FPS.
-
Very strange. See my system specs above, it is not really a high
performance machine, but except the know bugs I have normally
50 FPS in a battle, and nearly 100 when only a few capships are
around.

Try the lastest build made by WMCoolmon.
