If done properly, it wouldn't be bad.
If done to death and heavily hyped and merchandised, it would suck.

But, what would it focus on? FS1 or 2? It would be hard to cover both.

Yeah it could be good, but not all good things happen.

Better if it went far back into the Terrans discovering the Vasudans or focus on the aftermath of Cappella. Something around those.

Would be good. If there were a movie, it should be played at the Great War.

I'm the only one to have a fanwank? (Ok that sounds so bad..)

Anyway, toilet jokes aside I think it'd be brilliant... Shivans could be alien-esque in theming... infact the entire movie could be that way but with a lot more space combat rather than ground assault.

It'd be set in the Freespace (1) universe given that the atmosphere was so much better....

I hate hate hate movies based off games, or games based off movies. Excluding the AvP games.

Great to talk about, bugger to make ;)

It'd probs need to be set at the start of FS1 else no-one will know what is going on :)

I also picked this as a reason of what I posted.

I think a FS1 movie would be a good idea, if done properly. Nothing like the WC movie.

I think I started a FS1 script thread a while back. Lesse if I can't pull it up...

EDIT:Ah, the days when I was good for something. (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,12167.0.html) :D

Could be good, could be good. However, I would not have much hope for it. Game-to-movie conversions are usually messed up. It would, IMO, work much better as a series that would show first contact with Vasudans, Great War, GTI Rebellion and finally the events of FS2.
Of course, a trilogy of movies would be nice, too. One could show the Great War, the second one GTI rebellion and the beginnings of the NTF one [and so introducing the character of Bosh, so he doesn't just appear out of nowhere], and the final one presenting the FS2 storyline, ending in Capella system. After that, the success of the movie [to be honest, if it is properly advertised, it has a great potential to do very well] should be enough for the glorious creation of FS3, and FS movie saga becoming a quadrilogy. [the ending of FS2 practially forces this, and if FS becomes popular enough...] HLP enjoys it's golden age with the great influx of new members and increased interest in FS, and FS players all over the world say "Yay!". We also get to laugh at WC fans, because we have a good movie and they don't.

Of course, the movie could be horrid, and bury FS under a ton of rocks.

Even a horrid movie would be good, if it was horrible enough.

Either make a good movie, or cast William Shatner, I say! Either will bring people to HLP. :p

Why not a series? You could have season 1 focusing on the terran-vasudan war and ending with rumours of shivan encounters. Season 2 would end with Lucy blowing off the Sol node. Season 3 would be a breather with focus on the GTI rebellion and Bosch making his way up the ranks and getting ideas, before everything goes to hell in season 4, ending with Capella gone supernova. Season 5 - who knows?

Should the movie or series focus on one ndividual characters?

It'd end up being about a small team of SOC ops, of whom at least two will be stupidly hot women, infiltrating the Iceni or some ****...

I don't think that would fly, because of the large gap/small gap mix. It wouldn't be possible to maintain a consistent set of characters, either.
