Title: Wrong sided polys when converting from 3DS to COB to POF.
Post by: Atalhlla on June 23, 2004, 04:20:27 pm
If anyone's been following the StarFox thread, you'll already know I have this problem.  For those who don't know, after converting a model from COB to POF, there were some polygons who's normals seem to have been flipped.

To put it bluntly :

It had no problems rendering in TS3 after conversion from 3ds... I have no idea what's wrong :(

All help is appreciated!

Are you sure the normals were OK before you started converting formats?

It may sound obvious, but that seems the most likely problem. When I am modelling, I always have the normals displayed on the polygons ... so I know the normals are good.

I have never had a problem with normals yet as a result of the conversion process. I would expect, though, that a conversion problem would affect all or none of the normals, rather than patchy hit and miss flipping.

The bad polygons also seem to be triangles.... which rules out bad geometry.

There really isn't much more I can add. If you want, I can have a look at the mesh, which might tell me more. A picture only shows so much ;)

ts render show the polys as double sided, almost surely you have flipped faces after converting from 3ds to cob

Eh heh, I guess that should have been obvious... :x Thanks alot, guys!

And from now on, I'll make sure to have it display the normals while I'm modeling.

well, I know for one that truespace is real *****y with imported 3dsmax files, or any non .cob files for that matter.
