cut+paste into the adress bar or they wont work
i will try to get it uv mapped tomorrow and texture it next time i get a weekind off from work
-
I'm not sure about those engine pods on the wings or just how bulbous the forward fuselage area is.
Looks pretty good as a WIP, though.
-
i know that forward section is abit akward, i still cant think what to do with it
-
remember on rounded models triangles look better than suqares
-
The design is good
Looks like a fighter with all primaries, no secondaries.
-
thanks for the tib bobboau,
and yes, no secondaries on this ship. its a light dogfigher, one gatling gun and a 4 slot standard hardpoint.
-
Looks Vasudan. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. The textures will tell the tale. If it's a no-missile dogfighter, it ought to be quick and very agile(I'm thinking similar flight characteristics to a Pegasus with bigger guns.)
-
Looks a bit fat if you ask me..
fat, but promising...
-
Looks Star Trekky.
-
its a pirate vessel, a light intercepter. i needed it to fill up the gap between recon and superiority. pirate vessels made by me are listed below, along with there intended loadout configurations. gatling guns may only use ammo for its particulr calibur.
recon > hellbat (ulesses retrofit)
dual 50mm gatlings/standard hardpoit/no secondaries
interceptor > this ship
single 100mm gatling gun/standard hardpoint/no secondaries
superiority > valk2 (formerly a gtva fighter, but i remade the ship from scratch as a pirate vessel, namechange pending)
dual 100mm gatling guns/standard hardpoint/single missile bay
assault > shagrath
dual 50mm gatling guns/single 150mm gatling gun/2 missile bays
bomber > sepuelture
dual 100mm gatling guns/single 150mm gatling gun/3 missile bays/single laser turret
criuser/freighter > rumrunner
11 turrets (4 beam, 1 flak, 4 shotgun, 2 high speed rocket launchers)
anyway i want to do a pirate campaign with multi support. ive created a ship to fill each role. i dont intend to do any other capitol ships as i dont think pirates in the freespace universe would have the capability to produce them, steal them on the other hand :D. other gatling types are 67mm (shivan) and 200mm (maelstrom gunboat only).
-
I agree with Black Wolf. I think that it looks like a pre-TNG era Romulan scout/interceptor.
-
i would shrink the bulbous nose

I'm more inclined to think Whitestar.

i just threw on the uv maping. i must also add that this is the first model i did in truespace 6, everything else ive done was in 4.2
-
For those too lazy to get to Angelfire:
-
And #2:
I really like the design. How are you at mapping?
-
Nice  Looks kind of sleek - I imagine pirate ships as rather clunky, angular things, but it's a good mesh. Lets see some textures on there. :)
-
make the bottom part of the big bulbous section thinner and it'll give the ship a fierce look i think. give it a try. Also, lenghthen the back of the wing into a kind of a tail with a graceful curve to it, It'll look badass, cool, and pretty all at the same time
-
It's no Freespacey, mastah. :(
-
The wings look a bit like those from that british fighter craft - what's it called, "Harrier"?
Is it only me, or does the back section look like an insect just slipping out of its egg? :wtf:
-
To be honest I'd be tempted to sweep the wings the other way, turn it around 180 degrees and use it as a fourth race fighter :)

I don't know why so many people think that plane is British. On the contrary, it's American, even though the very early harriers were designed by the British. McDonnell Douglas is the contractor, which is an American company.
...my rant for the day.
I kind of like the design of that ship, it's got a 'whitestar' feel to it, imo. :)
-
looks cool.

Who said mitac was refering to the current generation of Harriers? :D
Besides just cause an American company builds it that doesn't change the fact that it's a British design. If every Macdonalds in the US closed overnight would that stop them being American?
-
McDonnell Douglas is the contractor, Hawker Siddley is the designer, a British company. The only reasons Harriers aren't built here is because the Government screwed our steel industry :(
-
And Rolls-Royce is the designer of the engine used. I usually think of a plane as being property of the builder, not the designer. The British still have to buy their Harriers from the United States. :p
Kara: not sure the fast-food analogy applies. French people don't buy Mcdonald burgers from the United States and have them shipped over ;)

no aircraft builder in their right mind would use steel in an airplane. too heavy. the harrier is probibly an aluminum airfrfame with maybe some titanium.
as for the ship im done uv mapping. i got today off work so im gonna start textueing it right now. the general idea in mind was sports car with guns. a civilian ship that has ben retrofit with weapon systems.
-
Nuke, it was more a question of facilities to store and build these planes to be honest. Aircraft hangers are made out of Triplex steel, there were plans to build another 3 at Farnborough to allow for storage and design for another 24 planes, but the order was cancelled because overseas prices were too hefty. The case is the same across most of the BAe sites, so while we had technology, we did not have the facilities.
And on topic, the ship looks pretty good, looking forward to seeing the finished product :)
Edit : Oh, and DC, tell me about it :p Our government would sub-contract our souls to Satan if they could :(

And an0n would be delighted to hear about it :D
That design really looks like more of a frigate than a fighter though, imo.
-
Flip - if it means anything, China's screwing steel prices over all over the world, so I'm not sure how much your government could really do to prevent it. WA has some of the biggest iron deposits in the world, and a massive infrastructure for processing it and we're still paying through the arse.
-
well the good news is that the textures are 80% done. im gonna try to finish it up before i go to bed and if i finish i will post pics later tonight.
-
ok, i replaced the old untextured pics with the new textured ones, just follow up the same links. texture work is still at a base level, i will ad a layer or two of extra decals on top of that. i thought about it and i think im gonna put a mine launcher turret on the back of the ship (behind the rear window, where the gunner sits).

It might also have to do with the fact that the Harrier is a VToL making it many times more expensive than the average fighter.
-
off topic ppl
either talk about his fighter (i dont like the textures) or start a new thread
-
Don;t like the textures either....seem too...odd. A bit 'random', seem a bit underdetailed IMO (excusable given it's WIP). Scales are definately off-putting, and there doesn't seem to be too much of a coherent colour scheme at the mo.
-
i tell you this is not my best work. but at least i got the smoothing right this time. and the mine launcher is a good touch, its not too muck to screw up the balence and it makes dogfights more intresting.
