So, here is it, straight from the Machina Terra ovens (yes, we bake our ships). It's still on texturing stage - this is more of a placeholder until my computer stops crashing every 15 seconds - so bear with me, please. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
And yes, the name means that it's a fighter capable of both space and atmospheric flight (like the Thunderbolt on B5)...
-
Where's Raptor III?
-
In his room, he didn't do his homework.
Nice ship (plane?) styxx (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Great design man! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
It looks like a plane I have already seen...but I don't remember his name...

Maybe that French suckery Mirage?
-
I won't reply to that... when I look at your planes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
The tornado is cool, isn't it? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif)
-
Yah, Tornado is cool...not as cool as the X-35 JSF, but hey, what can you do? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
This is the first plane that I've ever liked better than the F-16...it better win, because the X-32 one is just plain ugly. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

bah, the Yf22 "I cost the pelt of the a*s and I crash every time I fly" raptor won over the Black Widow, so don't hope too much (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif).

I see the resemblence between the F-22.... stealth design I guess (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Hehe...yah, it is. The F-22 is bigger, has much longer wings(lengthwise), has TWO engine exhausts, and a very different tail structure. The resemblance is there, though. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

What? A F-22 would *** -rape a Rafale or Eurofighter in pure air superiority combat.
How effective each are otherwise...

make the f22 to work properly, first.
-
The Rafale is *** .
But the EuroFighter could do well against a F-22, of course after they're both finished (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
There was a huge debate about it on SpaceBattles, F-22 vs. EuroFighter. I think it ended in a F-22 victory, but there were people who said otherwise (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
I reckon American planes own. Then Russian, then British, and at the rear French and at the very bottom of the mudpile lie the old Saab fighters from Sweden (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

It is required, unless you´re a fat person or a very thin (means: weak) person. I´m neither of those, so I guess I´ll be going.

Hmm.. a quote... at least its something similar along these lines(from Top Gun I think):
A victory relies on the pilot flying the plane, not the plane itself

Hmm, someone with a rock?
At least those Mirages are slightly better...
And a good pilot on a SU-37 can take down an excellent pilot on a F-22 any day.
Ah, and we just didn't get some nice and shiny russian planes and choppers during the worst part of the russian crisis 'cause the USA didn't like the idea of a south-american country having better aircraft than their own, and threatened to put an embargo.

I personally think that superior training and general air power strategy will beat ANY plane.
I still think that F-22s will be able to beat just about any other plane in the sky- they'll just do it from forty miles away. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
The X-35 will do the close-in ownage. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

Traditional american arrogance. You just can't stand the fact that some of the russian planes 0wn anything you can throw at them. That vectored thrust on the F-22 is a joke...

But the thing is that the Sukhoi-37 is not a stealth.. it has to get close enough to an F-22 to dogfight one, which it wont.
I've always thought the YF-23 would also make a good fighter in FS

yeah, the f23 is much better than the 22, I always wondered why they choose the other one...
Styxx... what are the mirage used in Bresil? The last versions (2000-5) are hella good.
Bah, anyway, now, what is important is not the plane, neither the pilot... it's the missiles you can use, nothing else. A su27 can turn super fast, a f22 can have stealth tech (lol, it can be detected thanx TV sets (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/lol.gif) ), throw a missile like the mica, or any russian or US equivalent, and you're done.
-
AIM-54 PHOENIX 0WNS J00 ALL!!!!
-
to start off with, both JSF fighters (there are 2 designs in the works) suck...
the X-35 relies too much on its limited chaingun ammo since it has a smaller missile capacity than the F-22... this completely nulifies its purpose (to shoot down Iraqi's while they play eye-spy games while on patrols)...
and that damn X-32 is just so butt-ugly it deserves to be shot down!

And erm the last time I check, only the SU's types are only of great threat to newer american built fighter craft. Ever see a plot of land filled with debris of MIGs? Just go look at pictures of the few airbattles during the Gulf War and during the Veitnam War. Opps, did I use the words Vietnam War? Ok to be politically correct I should say police action. But just like that country is, calling that a police action is just bull****.
That and you can bring all the fighters from whatever country your from, and the fact is, you might be more skilled, but for every plane you got, we got 10 more. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

Gulf war? that's bull**** the iraki guys didn't even fight back. PLus your planes are so great they don't have proper iff indicators, US pilots are kings of friendly fire (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif). Plus your tealth fighters are a joke, the F117 shot down over Yougoslavia by a 20 years old Russian missile is the best proof. Bah, no point arguing about such things, nobody will never agree with the others.
-
um stealth is a media thing and we know how much people should trust them (never). The general public thinks stealth fighters are "invisible" to radar. In fact, any radar can detect them inside a certain range. If it gets too close, lets say 1/2 mile for F117 it can be detected because of the fact that the radar returns are concentrated enough to show up on radar.
-
Stealth is overblown as a lone defensive mechanism. As a part of an interconnected whole, it's invaluable.
-

actually the serbs pulled an old russian tactic on how to shoot down spy planes. And that is, fire everything you got into the air and hope it hits. And our IFF indicators? Well it is hard to tell when you have the enemy swamped and everybody is trigger happy and wants to kill something and then goes Oh look! Over there at that black dot! Shoot it! It's kinda like Elk hunting in Colorado. The number of Hunters far outnumber the elk.
------------------
What!?!? I'm not crazy, but the rest of you are! =)
-
Then, rather than spend billions of dollars for a super plane that will be built in less than 100 units, the US army should train their pilots better, so they're not "trigger-happy", as you say. Such things won't happen in any other army ( army that respect international conventions and so on, I mean, of course ).
-
I just heard that FAB (Brazilian Air Force) is opening this month a request to buy new fighter planes, and the Mirage 2000 is being considered, among several others.
And Embreaer (yes, that company that kicked Bombardier's *** ) is getting back to designing military planes - they already have a really nice low-cost AWACS plane, let's see if they can make any good fighter or attack aircraft...
-
hmmm...obviously you haven't realized something Venom. Since you do not live in the US and have never seen what our Airforce is all about I will give you a brief summary of its main purpose. The USAF has stopped worrying more about how big and bad it is, and is working more on the education. The Airforce Academy in Colorado Springs is one of the most respected collages in the US. Ranking up their with the Massachuetts Institute of Techonology and Geogria Tech.
And the better part is, it's pretty much free. Except for there is a fee to enter, but it's only $1256 dollars which is dirt cheap for a college. But the requirements are alot. You have to have recomendation by a state senator which is pretty easy, just write them a letter, you have to have like a GPA 3.5 I believe I don't remeber. SAT and ACT scores have to be exceptionally high as well.
Also, IMO I am really against UN and NATO. I do not agree with them and I don't like having America being treated like the big dumb bully and all the other countries the little guy saying go get'em Geogre. Beat'em up, they talked about your mother. Should the US withdraw from NATO and the UN? I think so. I don't like sending americans to fight the Serbs, over in Somolia or where ever we are sent. It just makes us look stupid, and we are far from stupid.(except for DC of course)
I have watched and watched all these little campaigns that the UN does to prevent all these "wars" and most of the military present at where ever it is, is either the US, Britain, Canada, or Germany. You never see much of the others. Most just sit back and say, "Well let them do our dirty work for us. Vietnam, same way. South Vietnam if you look at the video of Siagon you will see 16, 17, 18, 19 ,and 20 year old boys walking down the streets messing around when he should be on the front lines and not some American that has a wife and children back home taking his place.
I'd like to thank LBJ for that, and dare I say it. I'd like to thank Nixon for ending all that bs. Also in recent events specially with the serbs, we have been made to look like we don't know what we are doing. Like when we started using missiles on the serbs and we ran out and started disarming nueclear warheads and rearming them with conventional warheads. Thanks to Mr. Clinton who stoped the production of cruise missiles back in the early 90's. And I'd also like to thank him for destroying that "terrorist facility" in India. And for some reason it was at the same time that all the Monica bs was around. So in fact he "murdered" a few hundred people just to get the publicity off him.
And I know I've gone waaaay off topic but I'm just pointing about my opinion. But another thing is, most foreign countries see us as a big bunch of wind, and as of always people in general are stupid and will make the same mistakes time and again.
Now let's see who has made these mistakes. Britain learned it twice, Germany same way. The Mexicans learned it from both the Texas Repulic and the US. Spain learned this lesson. Korea, and hell look what happened to the Japanese(no offense to anybody that is Japanese here) And of course the Iraqi's learned this also, and it looks like they might be stupid enough to try it again.
And also, I hear you are from France Venom. How about France needs to learn how to "win" a war first and stop surrendering. I'm not trying to make you mad or anything but it is a known fact that the french are lovers and not fighters.

yeah, that was quite OT (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif) Bah, you ddin't offense me, don't worry. I'm the first ashamed of what happened during WW2, believe me. About Vietnam, should I remind you who were the first to fight there? I think I teach you nothing if I tell you that first the Vietnam was a french colony, and that we (once again) lost a war there too. In the Gukf, we were here too. But what are our soldiers talking about here has nothing to do with the bad ugly iraki people. They saw frightened soldiers that surrendered because they had no supply, suffered from being in a middle of the desert with only sand around them, and really didn't want to fight. hew... I'm going off topic too lol
For french being lovers, not fighters... sadly it's more and more wrong... people turns crazy in France, these times (serial killers, youth violence, that begins to look like in those Scie-fie movies, I wonder if foreign countries hears about half of what happen here, those 9 year old kids that kills their class mate because he looked at them in a wrong way, things like that)...
Bah, it seems I can't stay on topic, indeed lol. At least I'll avoid a flame war about which country gots the best planes (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

At least our company wasn't using air force installations without paying a single cent for them. And you call that fair. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Yeah, it must be one of your ancestors. And indeed, Evangelion rules.

Codedog, there are many things that I disagree with in your message there, but this error is one of fact and not just your opinion. By saying that the French need to learn not to surrender you do a great disservice to the efforts of the Free French throughout the War. I suppose that there have never been any American traitors in the history of the world and that only France and Norway can produce Vichyites and Quislings. rah, why did you revive this thread? I passed over it, please do the same. Codedog, please don't reply, or this will be endless...

George W Bush

These are some very annyoing things that shows the typical stereotype of the american people, I couldnt care less for the shows
but they voted for George W Bush as a president

Hey Kellan, what made you visit the MT forum?
-
MT is the campaign that I am most anticipating. Good models, cool backstory...those missions had better not disappoint! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
And it's so mysterius, so I thought I could prise some information from the forum. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Nah, did I ever disappoint you? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif)

Hah, just kidding! No, all your missions have been top-notch.
-
Except:
this ("http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/download.php3?MissID=103") &
this ("http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/download.php3?MissID=151")!
this ("http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/missions/download.php3?MissID=162") (review ("http://archives.volitionwatch.com/fs2/review/display.php3?MissID=162")) is somewhat better, but I can still do better, today (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Counterstrike was cool. It's just a shame that the other missions you did for the campaign never got released. And whatever happened to FireSplat? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Well, he lost interest in FS altogether and now he´s playing Diablo II & Starcraft. It´s a shame that he doesn´t do missions anymore, his missions were always the best (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
transatmospheric fighters.... does that mean that there will be atmospheric combat in the MT mod? that would be amazing
-
Well, we won't have atmospheric combat on Machina Terra for a very simple reason: the engine can't handle it. The physics are completely different, implying on a new behaviour for all ships that can't be done through the modding options available to us.
We'll have something very close to it though, and I'm sure you'll all like it. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
-
Ok, I have found FireSplat´s mission "Forced Retreat" on my HD. I´m not gonna hold it away from you... you just have to play this pearl of missiondesign (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)
The mission is somewhat hard to win, tho...
It´s mission 04 from my cancelled campaign "Bosch´s Dream". You´re on the side of the NTF and you have to retreat from Deneb. Enjoy!

Hmmmm
Let me think...
Something very close...
Since there's no possibility to play in the atmosphere, it must be in space... But something very close means that special enviroment is involved... So there are few possibilities... One is a fight near a satellite (meaning a space corp like the moon). Another is around (and in..) an enormous space facility or ship...
