Title: Freespace Discs
Post by: Ace Pace on June 30, 2004, 08:36:45 am
I'm not sure if i'm the only one who has this problem, but is there any way to getting the files on Disc 2 of Freespace2? my copy is completely tanked, and I can't re-install the game.

Pull up the FTP server and look at Karajorma's FAQ.  All the help I can give you.

The FTP thingy is borked, though. Check Kara's FAQ, he'll have some answer.

A year ago I would have recommended getting the HOTU download and using that but that's been taken down now so you can't. The files you want have also been removed from the FS2 FTP so you can't get them there either.

If you have a friend who has FS2 you can legally get them to burn you a copy of the disk (in fact you can legally get them to burn you a copy of the entire game even if you don't own it!).

Maybe you can ask Sandwich to pop round with a copy one day :D

Failing that there are copies of FS2 floating about on the ED2k network and Supernova.

1) I got a component error during the install for Tango1_FS2.vp I assume from the number of scratchs on disk theres atleast another file with a problem. EDIT: that is on the server, downloading now, I assume I need to run the first part .exe for the rest of the split files?

2) no friends, I make people in my school addicted to FS, not the other way ;)

3)Well, havn't been keeping up, is he in Jerusalem or in reserves service?

4) Emule is slow ass, standing at 0.07% for a basterdized version of the disc, 0.04% for the full.

Oh. If that's the problem don't do a full install. Tango1 contains the CB_anims. The game will run without them (especially if you avoid the main campaign/play it with FS2_Open).

If the file is on the Freespace FTP you can replace it later.

What files do I need to take off the list so it dosn't touch CD2 so I can download from the server?

I intend to play main game+derelict and all the non SCP mods.

Choose to leave out all the command briefing anis and the cutscenes. They're spread across discs 2 and 3 I think. Then put them in later. :)

It's been a looonnnnnnnnnggggg time since I did anything except a full install of FS2 but IIRC Tango1&2 are on CD2 as are the high res graphics (sparky_hi). Beyond that I don't know. Either wait for someone who does or use a bit of trial and error.

The FS2 vp files you'll have after a full install are as folllows

# root_fs2.vp
# sparky_fs2.vp
# sparky_hi_fs2.vp
# stu_fs2.vp
# tango1_fs2.vp
# tango2_fs2.vp
# tango3_fs2.vp
# smarty_fs2.vp
# warble_fs2.vp

So at least you can see what's missing afterwards.

Ach sheli! ;)

I'm around J-lem, not in reserves or anything. My discs are with a friend over near the Malcha mall, but I can get them back anytime, or just have them burn a copy. Lemme know if you need it. :)

Ma Nisham? :D :D

Nah, checked the disk, so far only Tango1_fs2.vp is the problem, so installed without it and downloaded it from the server, hope this works.

If its any of the .MVE's, yes i'm screwed, but we probebly dont have time to meet, since i'm flying out to Zurich in 2 days, just enough time to finsh FS1-FS1:ST-FS2-FS2:Unofficial expansions.

Ahh, would've been highly ironic had we been in the same theater. :p

I started playing FS2 on an (ancient) ATI Rage Pro card, and only the nebulae missions were jerky.

I bought a new computer, complete with Voodoo 3 originally when I started playing FS2 :P

Now it runs on 100FPS on my radeon 9700 :P

I was jamming with FS2 on my PII 400 up 6 months after I got to HLP!  I think I had a 24mb vodoo rush? some primitive thing casue vodoo 2 adn 3 adn those new pesky damn Nvidia cards were WAY too expensive! I quickly learned three letters I soon regretted, ATI! LOL I bought the biggest one I could (32mb)
