Title: FreeeSpace 2 german to English patch?
Post by: CZZ on June 30, 2004, 10:57:54 am
Hi

I have spent an age tracking down a copy of FS2. I bought it on e-Bay from Germany  thinking that they would be a language switch. Dilerium at last!!!

On installing the game and going into setup there is a langauge set-up but it appears not to work. It shows English & German.

Is they a patch to transfer the language from german to English?

Any help appreciated apart from learning German!

Kazzan

Deutsch lernen ist sehr , erm, easy?

Dunno, the voice files would be hard. Get a stu_.vp file from someone with an English version.

And you couldn't have picked a worse name, we already have a Kazan, and he is mentioned quite often....

Title: Registry hack

Use my patch.
It's only registry hack that allows you to display English text. Sounds and movies are in German.
Download here (ftp://fsworld:[email protected]:5021/other/english.zip)
or just
search for key "Language" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Volition\FreeSpace2
and set "Language"="English".

Very funny, there were two threads and I merged one of them into this one (it contained the two posts above mine by wojta - that's all).

The other thread has been deleted.

Hi

wojta - thanks it translates the text so now at least I know what the guy is saying in German - might even learn a word or two.

Having played the demos I am familiar with the cockpit setup so whilst its' in German it poses no problems.

Presumably there is no way to chnage the spoken word or cockpit apart from the file on the English version?

Whatever it is still a great game and you guys are reallly supportive - thanks again/

Actually, there is a way to make the voices english... Actually, you could make the whole game english... All you'd have to do is download all the english tables, the english VP that contained the voices and the english movies (still in .mve format)... The only thing that might still be german is the interface in the main ahll and such... But an SCP build should fix that...

Ok, just reply. :)

I have reported that radar shows ships as A (with two dots). It's problem with fonts. I have added fonts from the English version to the package. Just download it again.

The only way to have the speech in English is replacing stu_fs2.vp with the one from English version. Ask your friends or search the net.

Thanks for the suggestons - is there a site that I can download these various files from. I am not a techie and keep coming across programs and such like that I have no idea what to do with?

I have searched the web and it it pretty confusing though Freespace Oralcle seems good?

Thanks again

Kazzan, If you don't terribly mind, I'd like to change your username due to the abovementioned similarities. Any preferences? :)

It's quite funny. It seems that someone other won WW2.

Actually reading the script and hearing it in German is cool - although it slows you down during battle.

Pyro-manic was going to let me link to his files re the English stuff.

Hipppo give me some good stuff but I am afraid that it was too techie for me shirt!! - thanks for the help though -learning all the time.

I await with patience and aplomb!!

I messed with the registry once, and had it in English, but subtitled in German... that wasn't as good. I wish I could get the German WAV files...

Anyone got a good conn, and a space to put it? ;)

Root_FS2.vp

Since this one has all the English tables you probably need this one

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/karajorma/freespace/Downloads/root_fs2.rar

I already had it uploaded anyway :)

My CDs are being weird, and aren't wanting to let me get to stu.vp. It's not letting me install either, so I can't copy it from the directory. Most odd.... I'll see what I can do, but in the meantime, has anyone got some space I can upload it to? I can't remember how big it is, but my freewebs account only has 30megs left...

Sandwich - your background zip file showing star systems and missiions; where would you file that - in the data/missions file.

I am now running freespace_open - excellent graphics?

It's just a collection of "blank" FS2 missions, with the only content they have being the spatial elements from the main campaign - asteroid fields, nebulae, jump nodes, and planets. In data/missions/ should do nicely, but it doesn't actually do anything - it just provides you with templates to build missions off of.
