Title: Ghost Ships
Post by: Annorax on June 30, 2004, 10:25:11 pm
Not sure whether the bug is in the Port or SCP, but.....

I was playing the Port under FS2_Open 3.6, warpout bug fix build... this is a Red Alert mission, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2 were destroyed in the previous mission. I was rather surprised to see a support ship come in two seconds into this mission, with orders to rearm Gamma 1. Seven minutes later, when I get a chance, I go to hunt down this "Gamma 1" that shouldn't be here, and see this.

How is this even possible?

EDIT: Yes, it's obvious I was cheating. The only things I gave Invulnerable to were myself, GTSC Rosetta, and Omega 1 and 2. No other fighters got any cheat help.

That's pretty wierd. Make sure you keep that screenshot. :D Though I suspect something could have gone funky when you enabled cheats and stuff.

I've seen this happen in the main FS2 campaign as well, sans cheats. So I don't think there's a connection...

I wonder how that one go through the sensors...

*quietly deletes thread*

*raises eyebrow*

I've seen something similar in Homesick.  I think it happens when a fighter's presence is specified by the FREDer somewhere, but they're killed in the previous mission.  I've never written a red alert mission, so I don't know the details.

EDIT: Oops.  Sorry about that, seems my connection's acting up again, since I couldn't see the first post, even when I reloaded the thread...

This happens whenever a ship gets killed in the first leg of a mission then the Downloading orders deal then the next mission.  For some reason they just port the dead ships over and they can still fight at 0%.  Happens in normal campaign and mods.

That sounds like something that could be fixed with a bit of creative coding.

Maybe we should ask the SCP people to look into it?

That's exactly what started the thread.

Actually they just sit there, cant warpout, fight or anything. Also they die in 1 hit but the enemy AI ignores them. This especially hapens in the last mission in retail.

Perhaps this should be Mantised then?

Yes, yes it should. Preferably by someone who has the time to answer specific coder questions.

This has been in place since Descent: FreeSpace guys.  Its not a new bug that anyone here introduced :D

I've started seeing a bug in multiplayer where ships still live at 0% strength, perhaps this is related?
