Because I want a sci-fi thread, in which I can enter the discussion too. And since my knowledge of trek is limited to TOS, and selected episodes of TNG, DS9 and ENT, here's a Babylon 5 thread of the same type. Your favourite B5 commander.
Me, I'll go with Sinclair. He was calm, calculating, looked good (better than the pretty-boy Sheridan, that's for sure), and O'Hare acted the part to the i. Granted though, the character had no room for development, which makes it a good thing that he left after season 1.
-
John J. "Nuke 'em All" Sheridan all the way.
Lochley... :ick:
-
I actually quite started to like Lochley, the moment when Garibaldi walked in and saw her having tea, and cracking jokes with Bester. :D
-
Hrmm... I would have tossed in Gideon too in the list. Even though Crusade was short lived they did develop him a bit ;)
Even if he was on the list: Nuke 'em till they glow!
-
The magical Sheridan nukes were just absurd. 2MT nukes taking out the Blackstar? :wtf: Even if you're taking into account the kinetic impact of asteroid fragments it's totally absurd.
And I'm not even talking about the 'flying-into-Third Space-artefact-in-spacesuit' thing. That was just completely downright moronic.
That's just one of the reasons I hate the guy.

Gotta love women reasoning.

But B5 is always praised for it's consistency. Well, this ISN'T consistent with anything. It's also supposed to be a somewhat realistic show as far as sci-fi goes with realism. This ISN'T realistic.
Seriously, he's the only character I truly dislike in B5 just because of his inconsistency and surreal characterization.
I'd much rather see Ivanova in command and him as second in command. :D Now, THAT would be a blast ;)

Just 'cos he's a man...

Ow, no. I liked Garibaldi. :D He's just too funny not to like. :D
Garibaldi, "The planet we are parked next too is about to go up like a roman candle. What am I supposed to do? Arrest it?"
Garibaldi, "I like mysteries, but I hate grey sector. I swear it's like the Centuari triangle in there."
:D
And that's not even talking about the blooper reel with him. :D

I second that, Ivanova in command would rule. You gotta love her for her sarcasm alone...

"Mr. President, as you requested, Monica Lewinski, Paula Jones, Jennifer Flowers"
But, nothing, and I say NOTHING beats Peter Jurasik and Andreas Katsulas in the blooper reels.
"On tuesday, I'm going out with girls!"
As for sheridan, the thing I disliked about him, was the he became so overly messianic and perfect in S4. Thankfully he started screwing up big time in Season 5, one of the reasons why it's one of my favorite seasons (didn't care for Byron, but didn't hate him passionately either).

He wasn't even a second in command... Unless you're talking about his Goa'uld days :D

Sinclair, because he is the only one who really feels like a commander. Sheridan is too casual, and Lochley feels too stressed out. Sinclair is... balanced :p
Although my favorite speaches are Sheridan's. Example...
Sheridan in The Fall of Night
I apologize. I'm .. sorry. I'm sorry we had to defend ourselves against an unwarranted attack. I'm sorry that your crew was stupid enough to fire on a station filled with a quarter million civilians, including your own people. And I'm sorry I waited as long as I did before I blew them all straight to hell. .. As with everything else, it's the thought that counts.
-
I say Sheridan
-
Gideon.
-
John "I'm gonna nuke the Shadow's mother-planet" Sheridan :).
-
Sheridan.
He sounds like a fun fellow, and has a kickass name. w00t.

Any person who's name begins with 'Cher' (in any form) deserves to be shoved down an airlock or thrown into the Vorlon atmosphere quarters without oxygen mask.

:p
"Commander! Did you threaten to grab hold of this man by the collar and throw him out an airlock?"
"Yes I did."
"I'm shocked. Shocked and dismayed. I'd remind you that we are short on supplies here. We can't afford to take perfectly good clothing and throw it out into space. Always take the jacket off first, I've told you that before. Sorry, she meant to say: 'Stripped naked and thrown out an airlock.' I apologize for any confusion this may have caused."

Still need to get the season 4 dvd:D
I like Sheridan.
-

I was thinking of the Sheridan... you know.. like the tank?
-
Isn't the tank called "Sherman"?
Maybe I'm talking crap here. Never mind, just came home from the dentist.
-
..... no, not the Sheridan (http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/m551a1.htm) Tank ....
-
Yeah, but there also is (or rather : was) a Sherman tank :
So neither just my imagination, nor on-topic, so let's stick to B5. Anyway, the tank's designation "M4" is not TOO far away from "B5"...*cough*

Ah, just as I thought. Sheridan has a small penis.
:p

Mitac: There's also a Tiger Tank.....
Tiara: :wtf:

loved that :D
also loved
"Trust yourself, Trust Ivanova .... anyone ealse ... Shoot them"
-
I always liked it when they were making dramatic threats:
"I am Susan Ivanova. I am the one who is going to kick your lousy butts all the way to hell! God sent me!";7
"Only one human has ever faced the Minbari in battle and won. He is behind me, you are in front of me. Make your choice now.":D
-
You forgot:
"We have an open door policy."
"And an open air lock policy."

Okay. I'm being pedantic here but the quote is "Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, be somewhere else"
I like the last part a lot so I had to correct it :)

Here are some of those quotes :)
I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. (http://www.babylonsounds.com/media/staffel1/ivanova.mp3)
Withdraw, or be destroyed. (http://www.babylonsounds.com/media/staffel3/withdraw.mp3)
This is a darker epilogue from Season 3 (http://home.t-online.de/home/Simon.Paquet/zhadum.mp3)
This is the Whitestar fleet (http://www.babylonsounds.com/media/staffel4/ivanova_revenge.mp3)

"No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater force in the universe than the need for freedom. Against that power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free." -G'Kar (on the fall of the Narn homeworld to the Centauri)
I agree with Sheridan. It really does make the hair on the back of your neck stand on end.
-
Which he never said until S5. Another follower I see :)
-
Sheridan followed closely by Gideon who I really liked for some of his idiosyncracies and both his open mind to some things and closed mind to others.
I particularly liked the one where they found that race that was keeping the secrets of ET"s from their population so Gideon droped a few thousand probes on their home planet mentioning something along the likes of that he didn't like big secrets.
If you know about the unshot scripts then you see how this really influences how his character goes. Damn them for cancelling the series!
-
Crusade had some ok episodes, especially the one looking back on the memories of the crew - The Shadow hybrid, the telepath war, etc.
-
Matthew is ok, but I liked Galen more. Interesting tidbit, the telepath first officer is now one of the hardest working recurring character actor's in TV.
-
yeah he's been doin great since Crusade was taken off the air...
