Title: Someone broke something...

This is all about small time compression. It used to be that you had to enable cheats, then press "~-Shift-," to lower time compression. Well, now you only have to enable cheats and press "Shift-,"...  I think many people liked it the old way... Its too easy now to accidentially hit it...

EDIT: As of 3.6 this started happening...

I think we completely removed the time compression cheat need for anything faster then 1x, and only required cheats for the compression slower then 1x.

There was always non-cheat required TC for 1 to 8x, even in retail.

yes, but it used to be that to get it less then one, you had to enable cheats AND hold ~ when you lowered it, so that it wouldn't go down that low when you are simply trying to make it 1x...

(PS: Retail went only to 4x) :p

Meh, sue me* for being wrong.....

Really, I think Goober and Kazan were changing/working on this. Ask them.

* This phrase was only meant as humourous, and is in no way an incentive, order or request for actually sueing me.

Hey, you're a Yank, I'm smarter than giving you guys even the smallest reason to sue, thankyouverymuch.

I preferred to require the player to press the tilde, but Kazan didn't.  So we removed that restriction (but pressing the tilde will still work).  The rationale was that people were cheating anyway, so it didn't matter.  I wasn't happy with it, but I let it go.  If you can get enough people to lobby for it, we can require the tilde again.

Well, I had an interesting occurance with it, where while playing Inferno, I had accelerated to 16X (I belive) in the mission where you scan ships near the gate, and when i came under attack, I tried to lower it as fast as i could (I had already made the Cruiser you escort inveunerable, since it was my 5th try) and went into 1/4... well, I died anyway, and when i hit Quick Start, it started me in 1/4 speed...

I had another problem like this too, in mission 13 of Inferno (the one around earth)... I'd failed the mission, so i thought i'd look at earth up close. I colided with it sometime after the 1 hour mark, but i was still in 64X when i hit Quick-start. By th time i got speed to 1x, I was past the Nemesis, 20k from everyone...

Can we at least have it reset to 1x at the beginning of the mission?

AFAIK Retail FS2 remembered your time compression between missions

That's not very smart... missions can be completely different.  And I know I saw some time-compression-reset code there somewhere.
