The config file attached to this post (remove the second extension - so it's just fs2open_pxo.cfg)

and their PXO user/pass set to test/test

i have a simple PHP that generates a simple stats table as well

Give it a shot folks.

gave it a whirl using the 7-01 bob build.
It logged into FS2NetD (does this mean the server is up?) and managed to go through all the way till it requested pilot stats from the server, which timed out. Immediately after that it went to the server screen where you can join or create games, skipping the lobby alltogether (is that normal?)

I can create games here, but I see nobody else online. Anyone care for a game or to host one? :)

Not right now, but I'll do a standalone.

Everything will be wiped when the real thing is ready, right?

EDIT:
Any specific builds (not) to use for a standalone with this?

Eh?
I am right now hosting a standalone on bob's latest test build. If you want I can do a CVS compile, but I'd rather not.

I'll join up Karajoma :)
anyone else willing to play?

The Zpack contains Lightspeeds uberized weapon effects, meaning new tables. You cannot use those with multi.

Strange, I dont see any servers up at all.
Is it because we're using different builds or something? If so is it possible to switch to 07-01? the new test build gives FPS droppage like nobody's business :nervous:

Err, gimme a direct link to 01-07 and I'll use it.

The whole thing has been going up and down like crasy, and the standalone server wouldn't even try to acces the net, according to ZA. (Zilch activity from the exe, at any rate.) The normal game does use the net,

I just had a crash, so I will have to reboot, but I don't want to loose this DC++ slot I've been waiting all day for. Gimme 10 min or something.

No probs. I'll go off and test my racing mission in the meantime.

That'd better be something useable for FSCZ.....
(Speaking of FSCZ, when do you think you can get back to serious work for it?)

Server's up, and this one is actually using the 'net.....

Kazan, is there any way you can whip up a quick web viewer for the server list?
I'd like to check if the server is visible, but I only have one computer with a working FS install, and I can't install anything on this laptop.

its more for a new cutscene than anything else.
Eventually, I hope to get it into Multiplayer, but I'm not too good when it comes to that.
We'll see about that later and in a different thread.

Will you be able to join up the server or only watch it? Cause I want people to kill lol :P
Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: kasperl on July 03, 2004, 02:00:03 pm
Only watch it.

I can't really be bothered with anything right now, I'm waay to tired to focus on anything. I need rest. I am just listening to Counting Crows MP3's, being gloomy, and running some self-sustaining downloading-server **** from my desktop.

EDIT: please post when you join the server, I can't see you on it right now.

I dont see the server.
I cant post when I join it either, since FS2 crashes if I press alt+tab.

Anyways, I cant spot the server at all. perhaps its the firewall?
Title: Fso Pxo

I'll disable it.

The bloody thing is, the exe is cleared for everything, and is using the conn fine.

Strange. Is FS2 open supposed to be doing this SCP guys?
let me try creating a normal server and see if you can't join that Kasperl.

As I said, I'm not running the game right now.

FSO eats my mem, I've finally found a slot for some MP3's I've promised someone, and I'm too tired to do anything active.

I know I sound like a lasy jerk, but so be it. Tommorow mabey. I'll keep the standalone up, but I'm not going to be active.

Remove the FS2 part of the filename, Kazan only added it to be able to use the attachment feature. Then put it in the same dir as your FS exe. Then download a farily recent build with compatible launcher. Remove anything remotely related to LS's new weapon effects, clear out your /data/table file. Then, just run the game, go to options, go to multi, and be a smart boy.

Ah.

'bout the Singh not seeing my standalone, is there anything currently down, or anything needing a direct client-client connection? (The conn. between me and Singh has always been shaky using FS multiplay.)

Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: kasperl on July 03, 2004, 02:45:35 pm
2.

We've had the discussion the last time FSO PXO went through testing, I cannot touch the last firewall in the line. FS retail PXO always worked fine, aside from hosting, no-one would be able to see the game. That problem was fixed in the last FSOPXO version, but I have never seen the stand-alone work.

There's supposed to be a lobby?

I can host a dedicated server, if that would help. Unfortunately I can't connect to it myself because FS2 tells me TCP/IP doesn't exist on my machine when I go to connect with a FS2 exe.

Give me a ****ing break, I'm tired, ill, and have been runnning on caffeine for over a week now. And it wasn't even meant as disrespectfull, just as a joke.

And if you expect please and thank you when someone is giving you help, you'd better adjust your expectations.

There should be, but it seems someone is still in the middle of switching from RAThaven to IRC, so I can't really be bothered with the lobby missing. And wouldn't the TCP/IP thing be an issue with a dedicated too?

BTW, I'm pulling the plug on my standalone in 5 min, tops.

Apparently not. It only shows up if I have the standalone running, so it seems to be some sort of conflict (Maybe b/c the port is in use).

no, they wont.
This may be a better solution:
go to your root_fs2 vp and extract all the original .tbl files into your data directory. Back up your old ones first if they are modded! This should allow FS2 to load all the required tables and bypass the hacked tables warning :)
edit: also use force local port 7808 under the network settings in the launcher. it seems to have worked for me :D

wierd. After a few seconds in-game, FS2 just crashed, leaving me and Raa in the lurch. Oddly, I can't connect to your game Jdjtcagle, it keeps on saying that the connection is lost.

Acting strangely indeed. Well, at least that 1/2 hour of old skool dogfight was fun today morning ;)

You got all the notifications about it checking tables and the like when you entered the ready room, right?

Are you sure your editing the cfg right?

1. Save the file that kazan gives you...

2. open it with notepad and save it as a text file

3. Open up the Text file and save it as "all files" and get it to read "thefilename.cfg" only...
EDIT: nevermind... WMCoolmon gave you the file. :)
Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: WMCoolmon on July 03, 2004, 10:15:25 pm
1) Download this file (http://fs2source.warpcore.org/fs2open_pxo.cfg) and place it in the same directory as your 3.6 exe
(This is the same file Kazan provided, just without the .fs2 extension. YOU DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE THIS FILE IN ANY WAY)

2) Start the launcher, check that your network settings are correct. Hit Run to start Freespace 2 and save any changes you made

3) Select or create the multiplayer pilot you're going to be using, then click select.

4) Go into options and select the multi icon. Turn on PXO (You can tell if it's on by the little dot next to it, it will be lit all the time if it's on)

5) Enter "test" for the username and password for the PXO info. IT IS CASE SENSITIVE, so make sure it is all lowercase. Check that caps-lock is off

6) Accept the changes and enter the ready room.

Are you behind a firewall, Jetmech?

Edit: the first time force local port should be at 0; if that doesn't work, try something like 7809. FS2's default port is 7808, it also seems to use 7809.

Are there any files, like effects or stuff (excluding tables) that I need to get rid of?

nope only tables...
Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: WMCoolmon on July 03, 2004, 10:34:35 pm
Well, you can't have any non-retail .tbl files in your directory tree, excluding mod directories.

Was this the error you got?
Quote
An Unknown Error (probably a timeout) occured when trying to get your pilot data.

BTW, do you have an IM program? That'd be a bit more convenient.

You're not behind a router, are you?

The only thing I can come up with right now is that your connection speed is too slow, but it doesn't seem like that would be a problem.
Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: Jetmech Jr. on July 03, 2004, 10:58:04 pm
a, um, router? Uh, yeah, so...uh...thats a problem? :nervous:

Edit: Do I need a PXO account to play?
Title: Fso Pxo
Post by: WMCoolmon on July 03, 2004, 11:04:53 pm
No, you don't need an account.

Yes, the router could be a problem.

Try forwarding ports 12000-12005 for TCP/UDP; these are used for the fs2_open PXO server.

Also forward ports 7808 to 7815 for TCP/UDP, these are used for the game data.

Ping that IP, if you don't get a response, there's some bad connection between you and my standalone.

I'll kick someone or stuff like that if you MSN or ICQ me. (Should be in my profile, as AIM and Yahoo!).

dont think its an issue of that, more like a bug in the build I was using on my side.
Ive changed to 07-01. That's been the most stable for me. It should work ok with 3.6, but if you want to switch, its upto you :)

If you cannot connect to a server, have that host give you his IP adress, then do the following:

Go to windows.
Click start
Click "run"
Type "command.com"
hit enter/return
Now, you see a DOS window
Type "ping " and the IP you were given.
See if the connection reaches the other person.
If so, post in this thread, with the name and IP of the person in question.
If not, type "tracert " , the IP you were given, and "> c:\FSOPXOtr.txt"
EXAMPLE "tracert 192.168.0.1 > c:\FSOPXOtr.txt"
Wait untill you see the cursor flashing again.
Open the file c:\FSOPXOtr.txt and copy&paste the contents into this thread, with the name and IP of the person in question.

Couple of notes on the 167 posts in this thread:

1) The standalone server code, to my knowledge, has not been touched. So, it will be as stable as retail, which means, expect it to die after every 3rd or 4th game.

2) Cripes, maybe IM for about 90% of these messages? ;)

3) Before posting a problem, make sure you understand how you are currently connected to the internet (software FW, routers, hardware firewalls, dsl versus cable versus dialup) and be complete in you postings and not too quick to blame it on the master server ;)

4) To the one post suggesting that since there were no games, they would stick with IP games: That's chicken and egg, people won't play if there aren't any games, and if people don't play, there won;'t be any games. For this to work, people have to use it ;) Thousands of games won;t magically appear for your perusal ;)

You are playing with hacked table files.  This will prevent your stats from storing.

After i click ok it gets to 'Logging in' but then my Login fails.  Is that normal and if not how do i fix the error?  I saw a post earlier saying i should remove anything remotely related to LS's new weapon effects, but im not sure if i have these effects or not.  How can i check whether i have these effects and how do i remove them?

Wha,..I got a weird hosting problem...
on pxo I couldn't host, games were invisible. But with fs2netd, I succesfully hosted about  2-3 games... that was in the time that there was no special multi-build yet,, just with 3.6 vanilla..
now.. my games are invisible again.. But I didn't change any of my network settings...
Is this caused by the new builds, by fs2netd
or am I just being blind again..???
