Hi, I'm a bit of a noob fredder, and I wanted to extract the pof files from freespace to edit in truespace. I'm currently having problems using Pof Converter suite, since I have no idea what any of it does or how it works. So, basically any help would be good, or maybe even a link to this things manual. Thanks.

Click here for Bobb's tutorial. When it opens use the tabs on the picture of the editor to get a tutorial on each tab.
Tutorial click here. (http://freespace.volitionwatch.com/blackwater/fstut/fstut_index01.htm)

One question though. Have you extracted the models from the vp files? using VPView or modelview first? PCS can't read VP files so you have to get the pof files out of the vp first. Then you simply load the pof into PCS and choose Conversion > POF to COB.
If you need help after that check my FAQ and also check the Wiki (there's a link at the top of the page). The Tutorial that Shadowwolf linked to is pretty good too.

Hey thanks. But, it doesnt appear to work. I was using vpview to extract the .pof files, then loading them into the conversion programme, and converting to .cob files, but when viewing the files in truespace (3.2) the files appear empty. What am I doing wrong? Some wierd window opens along with PCS, im not sure if thats relevant, altho i think its just were the model appears.

WHICH FS2 ships do yo u need converted to .cobs?
I'll warn you first, many times I will convert a individual ship to cob to try something an when I convert it back PCS will crash and NOT convert it for various reasons..
Hard Crash (no reason)
on resize (BSP too many recursions)
or what have you...
Main thing is , if it aint broke don't try to fix it!
Textures can be changed via model view!
Give me a list and I'll convert them for you.
Oh one thing I found out, if you don't have the models and the textures in the same folder when you convert the model it loses all texture coords and can't be textured again correctly, unless you do it from scratch!

Well I'm a greedy guy, I need a bunch of models, altho atm the most important are a Leviathan, TCTRI container, TC2 container, and a hippocrates. I think... I was experimenting atm hehe. But mostly I am confused on why it doesn't work, cos I'm (hoping) to be able to do this on my own.. one day

I have no idea why you're still having problems. The only thing I can think of is that you forgot to open a pof in PCS (In which case IIRC PCS will save a blank .cob).

I suspect you're on about the renderer. That's supposed to open :)

To load a pof i just extract it, then load just "open POF" and click on it right... hmm... ahh well.
Sorry to cause so much bother!

Not the first to experience that mistake. If you do a COBtoPOF conversion using PCS as soon as you choose the menu option you get a load requestor appear looking for the cob.
The other way round you get a save requestor. The amount of times I've started looking and then realised I'd not loaded the pof :D

Hehe turns out I was doing that, AND when I did save it, I didn't realise truespace doesn't automatically open a .cob file when u double click, it just opens truespace. Thanks a lot for the help, now hopefully I might have a campaign eventually...

Be warned that the order the Truespace hierarchy comes out of [V] pof is not the order it has to be to go back in. You'll have to move some of the bits around.
Bobs tutorial is a good place to look at what you'll have to make the hierarchy look like to get the model back into the game.
If that was clear as mud get the model edited the way you want first and then post again and we'll talk you through it :)

..ermm... the second one?
Yeah thanks, I think I'll do that after some random clicking of buttons, and hitting the laptop a few times. Thanks guys :D
