Title: Anyone up for an un-official Lego Modelling contest?
Post by: Corhellion on July 08, 2004, 08:49:03 pm
Alrighty, since I've had a hankering for HW2, I decided to build most...if not all of the Vaygr (and some of the Hiigarian) ships.

And I got an idea...why not...since a few people here have lego, why not have a lego building contest, right here!
--------------
TeH Rulez!
--------------
1: ) Pick a Sci-fi game.

2: ) Choose a ship or vehicle from the game.

3: ) Get some Lego. (MLCadded ships will be judged in a separate category)

3: ) Start building!
-----------------------

Try using as much lego, and as much detail as possible with the models, here's my Vaygr Heavy Missile Frigate to show you just how much detail I mean. (It's 49 studs long FYI)

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=89826

So, just enough to give it form and playability, don't go overboard.

Entry's can be posted here, show a pic of the in-game ship, and a pic of the ship you built.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Judging will be done by a public vote, voters should be looking for:

1: How close it is to the in-game model.

2: playability (i.e. moving parts, "shwooshability", etc)

3: How you used the bricks/built the ship (use different building techniques to overcome parts limitations, or shortages)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contest starts now, and will go on for...a month.

...need to talk to some admins to see if I can get this semi-stickied...

That's all, good luck and good building!

I'll submit some pictures, if my little brother hasn't killed the Medusa model designed by Petrarch yet.

Oh man... if we'd had this thread like ten years ago, before I gave all my legos to my younger cousins in Malaysia, this would be so cool. ;)

A shame, isn't it? I live in the hope that little dudes somewhere out there are discovering the joy of Lego. ;)

get 'em up! I may also...bend the rules...slightly....

*goes to edit his first post*

You are allowed to use MLCad or any other lego cadding program, but they'll be in another catagory.

...and I may also have the community vote on which is the best ship entry...that'd be interesting...

*edits some more*

There!

Good luck with the building people!

Does C&C:RA class as Sci Fi?

It's fiction, and has science...

*sigh*

...I suppose it does...but C&C:TS counts more, considering all the future stuff, RA is more...in the here and now...but...I'll accept it.

Yeesh - I've made a couple of Lego ships for my own sci-fi franchise, one of which still exists as an actual model. It was used as the basis for The Swarm War's Senshi-class Heavy Cruiser.

Does it HAVE to be Sci-Fi? I used to be a dab hand at making Lego models of WWII warships.....

yes it has to be SCi-fi, I can bend the rules as to say, if it portrays advance/futuristic weapons/ships/units then I'll accept it.

WWII warships...don't think so...unless if you count Yamato...for obvious reasons then yes I'd accept that.

Darn.......and I had a lovely model of HMS Rodney. :D

I suppose I could tackle Yamato in her Sci-Fi guise........where did I put MLCad. I don't have THAT many bricks! :D

Hmmm. I've built a model of a Hecate class destroyer, but it's not made with the detail the contest seems to demand. The bricks are all just various colors and whatnot. =/

I have several of these things in my room. They are all minifig scale ships based on the official space themes' colors/designs/etc., so they are sci-fi but not based on any specific existing ships. And of course there's my rocket launcher too. The only digital camera I have is my dad's camcorder though, which takes worthless still pictures.

Heh. I've got the pictures, but now I've got to reduce their size because ImageShack doesn't like hosting things over a meg in size. =/

Yeah, but I'm posting them even if this is dead. Nothin' can stop me!

And here's the first one, with guest appearance by my cat's legs:

And now for round two. Sorry, but this one's going to stretch things a bit:

As you can see, I didn't really try for matching colors. And I improvised a few things, like the engines in the back that aren't at all like they should be. But that's just how things are.

Very Nice!

You've captured the look the of Hecate! I'm impressed...even if it is an RBW (RainBow Warrior)

That looks very nice. The body looks a little elongated but the wings/fins looks excellent.

Anyone up for making a minifig-scale version of one of these? :D Fighters and bombers would certainly be doable though...

Thanks!

I also have a model of a Perseus intercept fighter I can put up. It's RBW too though. And once one of my friends made a really good true color Apollo, but it's fallen apart.

At one point in time I made an RBW Ravana that was the perfect companion for my Hecate. I even took on the daunting task of trying to build a Sathanas, but that didn't turn out too well and it's since then been taken apart and assimilated into other creations.

I've tried to figure out how to make the window for one...but...can't figure it out...
