As most anyone here should know, I have no great love for the CIA. But in this case, they are the fall guys for the administration. The Office of Special Plans was created and staffed by neocons to further their agenda. They are responsible for most of the lies and misinformation, not the CIA. They (the CIA) actually tried to stop the lies and to provide solid intelligence, despite immense pressure to cherry-pick information and distort analysis.

In short, the CIA is blameless for the lies in the lead-up to the war, and they're taking the fall. Like a good soldier, George Tenet fell on his sword to protect high-ranking administration figures. Everyone can just have an easier time sleeping at night if they beieve lit was the CIA that ****ed up and made mistakes, instead of believeing that the people who are running the country lied through their teeth.

edit: damnit, I need a thesaurus.

Well, it least it proves that the American Government finally accepts the War was based on a pack of lies, no matter what the source. They have also stated that they access to the same information as Donald Rumsfield, and couldn't come to the same conclusions.

What's kinda making me sick in all of this is that the commission in charge of analysing all of these informations say that Bush didn't know anything about this... As if he couldn't have known :doubt:
Bah ! Hopefully with all the liesthat have been going on under this administration, he won't be reelected, and we will not hear of the warmonger for a looooonnnnngggg time.... -wishfull thinking-

Yes, the Chinese embassy was hit during the 1999 bombing of Serbia. And you want to know what the excuse was? They said..

*drumroll*

...that their maps were out of date. Thats why they hit the embassy, the maps they had of downtown Belgrade were old, so they didn't think the embassy would be there.

Its kind of hard to swallow, in an age of smart bombs, orbital sattelite guidance and some of the best recon in the world.

Of course, there's also the theory that did the rounds, whereby the 'accidental' bombing was a response to China surrepticiously slipping Yugoslavia military intel (to 'test' the American threat to them in the event of a war)

Actually it's not. We're dealing with the same nation that planned the invasion of Grenada on a map they got from a service station

Could well be. One thing thats for certain is that it was not accidental. I know the Russians were "helping" Serbia, mostly moral support "ra ra go team" and so forth, as well as being very brave after the fact, and rolling in their tanks after a peace agreement had already been negotiated and all the danger was over, but I don't know about the Chinese. But anyway, thats getting a bit off topic.

WASHINGTON — At a time when U.S. intelligence failures have prompted calls for sweeping reform, outgoing CIA (news - web sites) Director George J. Tenet on Thursday delivered a farewell address to agency employees, urging them to resist unnecessary or unwanted changes.

"If people want to take us back in the wrong direction, then it is your voices that must be raised to say, 'We know better and we will not stand for it,' " said Tenet, who is scheduled to step down in a few days. "This institution is your own. We who serve as your leaders are stewards for limited periods of time."

I love that word, "intelligence failiures". Kind of like "sleep management" and "stress positions", which is what the American media says when they don't wan't to say the nasty "t word."

I think its safe to assume that with all the blame going to the CIA, which is clearly being interpreted as a call for reform (and I do so wonder who will be doing the reforming, eh?), we will be seeing many more Office of Special Plans type deals in the future.

Remeber kids, the way to loose weight is to "reform" your diet and eat more.
