Title: My latest effort
Post by: Liberator on July 11, 2004, 04:07:37 pm
I was screwing around this afternoon and made these:

What do you think?
They need texturing(they're not UVed because I don't know how to do that), but I think they would do well for the higher poly Helios and Cyclops.  If someone wants to take a crack at texturing them go ahead, their in the same dxf file which should be openable by every thing, or PM me for a specific format.  I can probably coax a COB or 3DS out of 3dex.

Those are great hi poly bombs, and I would texture em if I could, but I'm still trying to figure out modeling :)

Seems a bit excessive, poly wise, to me........nice enough design, tho, but IMO more render than game models.

Not really, I raytraced those.  Both of them together come to 608 verts and 1208 faces and I think the Cyclops got a few more than the Helios.  If I had wanted to make(and I still might if I can find someone to UV/Texture them) render models I'd gone for about 2000 per bomb, probably more and modeled the intricate details that are in the ANIs.

you really dont see weapons models in the game unless they are really slow. i have made many of them but never wanted to go overboard on the polycouts just because they would go boomb before you could admire them.

Way too many polies for missiles IMO. No need, even if we can handle it.

even with HTL that's too many polys, if it was a fighter or bomber it'd be fine, but that's waisting polys there. try to keep it below 100 polys for bombs, they do after all just go boom.

I started with a 20 vertice circle for both of them, should I use something like a ten, bear in mind they only have 5 sides right now and look like crap.

Looks like my turf is under attack... j/k;)

I made a hi-poly Helios a while ago, but have never got round to finishing it.  LODs are done, just needs UVmapping + texturing.

Screenies, old and new LOD0 (copy shortcut, paste)

361 polys on that one.

I'd say 12, but don't go overboard on the extrusions, I'd say you could easily make a model with more than enough polies withough going over 50

Nice work the pair of you but I think I prefer Raptor's somewhat :)

Whe I get some time, maybe I crank out a better HP Helios, suitable for rendering.  I messed around last night with a 10 vert circle and ended up with 160 faces, maybe this could be lowered somemore, but there's a minimum quality level that I'm unwilling to go below.
