OK, it took me like 15 minutes and 4 tries to load that pic, I dunno whats up with swooh.
1. Very, very nice work Venom, as usual.
2. Its kinda dark, no? Well, seeing as how it a WIP, that may change.

I think it doesn't need more work ( I've considered reworking the wings, but they're fine as they are imho ).
I used DaBrains map ( a very nice map, tho I'd tone the texture layer done, makes it look a biy like concrete right now, imho ) as a template and cut the details out of the original mesh.
2748 triangles, and yeah, I'll release it ( I discarded the mara coz it was crap, I consider this one ok ).

Man, it has to be converted first, I can't do that, and because of the glass cockpit, it's a tad tricky too, so you'll have to wait a bit :p

when you LOD it - make useful LODs poly and texture (i.e. same UVmapping, so we can just halve the texture sizes) wise. :)
There should be a LOD for around 500 m distance (so pretty much the same poly count), since you wont need 1024² textures at any greater distance than that.

Its as I feared. Some of the details get lost because of the textures. Still looks great though, but you can almost see more details on your dark picture than on these. That will probably be fixed somewhat when the model is in-game though, espcially with environement mapping and so forth.

Question: If all ships get the HTL treatment.
Will it be a MAJOR problem?
Right now, with 3.6, there is no problem

Of course you see more details on the dark picture, relief shows because of the light/shadow contrasts, that's a natural law ;)
There's nothing I can do about it, I've quite exagerated the reliefs already, and the only way to get it well would be to have raytraced shadows :p. There's no much point complaining about this, it'll be the same for every fighter and bomber. And really it's not that bad here coz the map is high res enough, and the details aren't drown in the usual bluriness.
Lighspeed: yeah right, dream on, I'm gonna take the original pof, and just replace the main lod with this one :p

Nice, it looks like the arrows and warnings might need to be redone to match with the higher res stuff. (with some chipped paint and such)
If you pop a link on the FS upgrade internal, I can probably do them up for you.

Yeah well, you explained it to me, but then again I never even managed to convert a turret :p
The fins, like the wings, are ok taht way imho. I could have made them into a smooth curve, but that would have been crap. When I look at a real life plane, hulls are smooth, wings are sharp. I don't wanna fall in the "everything has to be smoothed" trap, or else I wouldn't have bothered modeling all that crap, and just put a meshsmooth on the mesh.
Ace: it's not my map, ask DaBrains if you want to modify it, I have no rights ( nor the .PSD :p ) on it.
Singh: No, much like 70% of what you see of the guy, it's shadows, not a beard. But the map is good enough so you can paint a beard on it if you really want to :p
Raa: I have no problem with you converting it, woo seems quite busy these days.
Just need to make the debris first, the rest already exists ( lower lods, shield ). Probably won't bother with thrusters, I prefer the pointy bitmap ones.

I didn't say they should be made smoother, in fact what I was thinking was (looking at the lowwer fin) to make the lower pannels visably smaller than the upper ones, this would make it less smoth, but more detailed. you'd mostly see it in the outline though

Voila, I'm officially done. I've added details to the fins as Bob suggested, but it's hardly visible. One last pic before conversion:

Note that I upped the self illu on the map coz it's kindda dark in max viewports, so details are not very visible.
Final polycount ( triangulated ): 2853
I'll do the debris tomorrow and send the file to Woomeister.

I've never seen anyone make this comment before, but has it struck anyone how much the Perseus and the Hecate look alike... layout-wise I mean? They must have been made by the same designer.

How long is it going to take to get the ship all-completed? I can push the mv_models release back to Saturday if it'll be fully completed by then.

Interesting...now that you mention it, it does strike me as they are rather alike, albiet on different scales.
