[color=66ff00]REPENT!
For it is a sign of the apocalypse!
Oh wait, that's HL2's release...

-
I'm really looking forward to this one. Great.
That said, I'm getting a 404 from Aldos link...
-
this is freaking great
-
I need a new computer, seriously...
-
Fantastic news! Incidentally Valve have stated they hope to have a release candidate ready for Vivendi by July 30th, so maybe we'll see both titles in August.
-
It'd be nice... considering HL2 was originally "almost done" around Christmas time...

Which combined (for me) with the Leeds Festival (Reading tickets all sold out, Boo!) makes for the best August of my life.
I shall henceforth call the forthcoming month "Creammypantsmonth"

Odd. It's directly off Blue's News....pertinent stuff is;
So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting
at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of
your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with
your local retailer for that information.
Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland).

It wasn't a beta it was a PRE-ALPHA and even then it absolutely oozed atmosphere. This game is going to be awesome.

Thanks for posting the info Aldo, thats what I was going to look for had the link worked for me :)
TrashMan, 01010 has it right... no beta has been made abvailable to anyone - what you and I played was a totally incomplete, unfinished and unoptomised build (like the build of Half Life 2 that was stolen). It'll give you a vague idea of the game but nothing at all like what the end product may be.

Like I said, it wasn't even Alpha, it was little more than a tech demo and the fact that it still scared the living **** out of me was more than enough to convince me this game is worth buying.
-
Baseing your opinion of a game on a pre-Alpha build is about the same as basing an opinion of a movie on some camcorder film of the sets being built.
So....wait for the review methinks. Although I'd like to see a demo to be released, even if only for the simple purpose of benchmarking.

Doom 2 was the first game I ever played multiplayer, over a serial lead, I used to have hundreds and hundreds of levels ;)
Well, looks great! I think I'll wait until I play it first. It will never have the magic of the originals because FPS is old hat now, but at least its a good excuse for a nice righteous blast :D

Oh no no.. not that old Alpha...
A friend of mine got his hands two days ago (don't ask me how) on Doom 3 Beta...
Looks good, but still... Half-Life Alpha is way better in my oppinion

I'd be cautious basing it on that, regardless (after all, there is a reason for beta testing :) ).
Albiet, I'm not actually intending on buying the game unless I get a chance to see a demo first. Apparently, though, it's much longer (28 or so hours) than I had heard.

The Doom3 beta is actually a fixed up alpha leak with a few levels made by some guy using the doom editor. At least, the one I got was.

Words can't describe how little I care about Doom3...
-
I heard some rumors about the devs being interested in having Doom3 be able to run on non-Windows OSes. Any real info on that?
-
It's a possibility, iD have supported Linux and the Mac in the past (Q3 and RtCW both came out in nativce Linux versions and the source code to Dooms 1 & 2 and Quakes 1, 2 & 3 have been released) but I don't care enough to look into finding an offical confirmation.

Highs: Extraordinary graphics and sound; incredible tension, atmosphere, and mayhem.
Lows: Some stabs at humor fall a bit flat.
Bottom Line: Just as we'd hoped, it's a non-stop ride of tension, carnage and terror. A new classic.
Multiplayer:
1v1, DM, Team DM, and Last Man Standing. There are 5 DM maps shipping with the game.
94%

Stabs at humor? In a Martian facility over-run by hellish creatures.. and then indeed in hell itself?
I dread to think...

Probably just minor easter eggs, like the Dopefish or something (yeah yeah, Dopefish is 3DRealms, I know)..
-
Supossedly, the stabs at humour are emails received on the players PDA - spam & zombie porn, etc.

About humour, I can well see Duke Nukem hanged somewhere ( you know, taking revenge for the "Oh, a doomed space marine!" :p )
-
NB: Apparently Doom3 will be CD only (3-4 disks, apparently). Something to do with theprohibitive costs of a second DVD version.

Actually iD created it, Commander Keen is one of theirs (probably the best game they ever made too).
