Episode 1/2 - Rising
it better be good ... VERY good......
-
Heh, I just watched SG-1 Season 8 premiere on my PC as full screen goodness (734 MB version) :D
It was pretty damned good. :D Looking forward to Atlantis too :D
-
734 mb 0.o *looks for DL*
-
I'm personally not looking forward to it... At least in my area, its going to take timeslots away from SG1, and it just doesn't look that good... I love SG1, but to introduce a new series is more likely to harm SG1 then to help it... Its like that old animated version idea...
-
It'd better not be like Voyager was for Star Trek. (IE: A series that ass rapes the whole concept.)
-
actually i think it's going to be ok.
-
I dunno.. that Wraith Queen looks like cheeese...
-
the fact that they are not wearing military uniforms scares me. why do all theese scifi shows make people wear uniforms that any self respecting circus performer wouldnt touch with a 10 foot pole. the b5 uniforms were cool, the crusade uniforms, gay. the old trek uniforms, gay, the trek movie (1-7) uniforms, cool. the tng, early ds9, voyager, uniforms were sorta gay, the new movie uniforms 8-9 and late ds9 were kinda cool. theese atlantis uniforms are hella gay lookin.
-
The MACO uniforms were cool :D
-
i think theyd be better off in the wormhole extreeme uniforms.
-
@ Nuke really?
its better than being naked thats for sure!

They have more of a navy look to their uniforms but its the same uniform. Just less green and more grey and blue. Infact, they much like the SG-1 uniforms are essentially military issue with a few tweaks for television/plot.
They work pretty well.

Looking forward to it.
-
So I want to hear if it was good...it's going to be another 2 months at least before I see it.

Global picking it up or something? Thats the only Canadian network I can think of that would....
-
Eh, it's on right now.
The begennigng was good, but only because of the SG1 cast being in it. It's gotten a little slow, and a bit cliche, and the cast is a bit odd (lolz, T-1000 is in it) but it still has an hour left, so hopefully it'll pick up.
-
I haven't watched SG1 but I'm ejoying this series right now.
-
Not half bad. The uniforms aren't as bad as I thought they were either.
While the overall plot was similar the pilot of SG-1, they did it in a way that was very different.
Hopefully the next few episodes will maintain a high quality, if they do this could be a worthy spinoff.
-
I liked it. If they can keep it up, we'll have a great spinoff of a great show.
And what's so bad about the uniforms? Does it really detract from the show that much?

Looks good. Teyla is pretty hawt too
Although I think that the suspension of disbelief was stretched a bit much..."Say, let's go check out this random planet for EXTREMELY advanced Ancient tech. Let's figure out how to use all this stuff without so much as a readme or even an Office Assisstant."
And of course Daniel's "Hey guys, I was just thinking, wouldn't it be so funny if it was actually a 8-chevron address? And then I realized, hey, I just found the Lost City of Atlantis! Err, sorry about that last season and a half of people dying or so..."
Edit: But it really was good. :p
-
It was really good? Well, that's good news. If ratings over there are good, maybe Australian channels will put SG-1 back on. ;)
-
/me dl's since its never gonan air on tv here ... EVER

No...I don't think Global is going to pick it up.
SPACE channel on the other hand (Chum, CityTV, etc.) is picking it up as far as I know. They certainly have Season 7 and 8 of SG-1 coming. I think they also want Atlantis...not sure on the exact details. September will make it more clear.
-
Ah. I thought they couldnt afford it.
-
Watched it last night and I liked it. At times it was funny so I got some good laughs out of it but overall
-
The reason the episode seemed a little not-SG is because they couldn't mention much from the SG-1 series as it'd mean paying off SG-1 writers and stuff for the rest of the series. That's what stopped Carter and Teal'c being in it: They're SG-1 creations.
Three more things:
Wraith = Werewolf + Psychic Guy From The Time Machine
Terri Higginson (Dr Elizabeth Weir) > Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col Samanatha Carter)
Atlantis = Kickass.
-
the city was beatiful .... BETIaFUL period ...
it rocked ... i bloddy loved that show 0.o
-
the city is defenitly beautiful....
plus they've got a wonderful view of the ocean...
-
Downloading as we speak :D Agin, the 700 MB version of full screen goodness. :D
-
it's closer to 867
-
Prolly a different version that you have. :p
-
Its actually not half as bad as i thought... The only major gripe i have with it, is that they cound't have brought enough ammo to last long... Plus, only 1 MALP, and its gone... But with the way they're going through ammo (RL's, P90's, at least 1 M60, and a lot of D.Eagles) they'll be through it in a matter of months... Not to mention food... The new stargate is interesting to say the least...
-
The city obviously has the capacity to grow food.
And there's gotta be a machine shop or something about the place where they can make new bullets.
-
True, they'll find wome way around it... Trade for weapons, or take Wraith ones, but it just seems that as a 1 way trip, they are VASTLY unprepared...
-
They expected to find an Ancient city, not a whole galaxy full of super-powerful evil aliens.
They probably assumed they'd have regular contact with Earth before they ran into any new enemies.
-
Point.
-
Surely the SGC can still dial in...
After all, Carter was able to fix the Ancients generator in POV, and the Protected Planets is pretty much screwed. So methinks the Asguard might be able to loan us a generator.
-
They actually dont use D.Eagles (its practically an effing hand cannon ffs). Standard military sidearm is a Beretta iirc...
-
true... I was thinking Rainbow Six 3, where people insist the D.Eagle is supreme... in a way, yes, it puts 9mils and .45's to shame (usually)
-
I like the way the wraith sucked the life out of the guy and was neat. :D
-
In terms of firepower, sure. But it has massive recoil for a handgun, and the .50 rounds (I think it can take .357 too) can tear through more than one target. Plus it's bulky, nearly twice the size of a Beretta, with a lower ammo capacity. 7 rounds iirc, where the Beretta has something like 17.
-
*wonders why they didn't have any Zats*
Something else that bugs me, the city is floating(hovering), has a working stargate along with lights and God only knows what else and they're powering it all with a half a dozen portable Naqita generators when it took 3 ZPEs before? Plus, why not rip the power cells out of the Puddlejumpers?
-
Possibly shields take an enormous amount of power, which isn't the case with antigrav technology?
Remember that Asguard/Replicators cannot fire weapons or raise shields in Hyperspace, but *can* maintain antigravity.
-
it was ok, kinda funny i thought. it might just work. they are probibly not gonna be able to play off mythology very much anymore seeing as they are in another galaxy. i just dont like those damn uniforms. i owuld have accidently left the thing on the bus and wore my black jeans and t-shirt through the gate. frankly i dont think theyd mind, new galaxy and all.
-
what if they brought a transportable closet full of those uniforms?

From what it seems like (the power restoring when on the surface) either:
A) The N. Generators can power everything except for the defense systems, when the shields weren't needed everything else turned on.
B) Atlantis has solar power backups that can handle everything but its defense systems.
Definately finding new ZPE generators is going to be a big plot-point in the series.

At least till the Not-Carter-but-still-very-smart guy figures out how to make one.
Here's something my brother was wondering, Carter is pretty much the smartest person on the planet when it comes to alien technology right? So why didn't they send her instead of the other guy?
One cool thing, the Frasier replacement in Atlantis is a nervous Scotsman!:thepimp:
-
O'Neill didn't want any of SG-1 going along because he knew it was a stupid, risky idea.
Also, they need Carter, Daniel and Teal'c back on Earth to figure out the Ancient Weapon and organize the fight against Baal.
-
I get the feeling that they sent a bunch of newbies because they figured there were two likely outcomes - one, the Ancients would be there and all that would be needed would be diplomacy (hence Dr.Weir). Or, the Ancients would all be dead and the team would be pretty much screwed.
-
Well, the story was a rehashed Children of the Gods, but with the added bonus of having Robert Patrick in it (whom I love in a heterosexual male-bonding way), and Weir, who is so unspeakably hotter than Carter, that words cannot express that.
Also, it had a geeky scottish guy, and a few good one-liners, courtesy of O'neill mostly, with exceptions. ("He's canadian." "I'm sorry.")
Of course the bad thing being the Wraith, who are about as cheesy as villains come. At least the Goa'uld were menacing back in the great old days of Apophis and Sokar. They are just silly.
As for the one thing that makes Atlantis different from every other show on the air - the production values. Aside from one encounter too many with the Columbian Pine(tm), they were lavish. Movie grade SFX, sets the size and quality of the Empire State Building, and so on and so forth.
And much big explosions. That's always good. And some of the cast has the potential to reach at least some level of SG-1'ness. Bar the token black guy, who similarly to enterprise seemed to have only 5 lines.

"Now I'm thinking about a nice turkey sandwich..."
